OPUS AVANTRA comprises three parts: OPUS (opera - work) AVAN
(avanguardia - vanguard) and TRA (tradition - tradition). Their style
blends elements of progressive, classical, opera, jazz and just plain
general weirdness, using keyboards, bass, drums, violins, cellos,
clarinet, flutes and other instruments. They were highly influential in
the progressive avant-garde scene of the time.
"Introspezione"
also referred to as "Donella Del Monaco" has all kinds of classical
influences including contempory classic. Beautiful operatic voice which I
like very much. The second album ("Lord Cromwell") is more difficult,
almost avant garde but contempory and old classical music inspired too.
It takes time to fully appreciate this album but it's worth to give it
that time. "Strata" has beautiful vocal passages, some difficult piano
pieces but very interesting too! The fourth album "Lyrics" is somewhat
overshadowed being less difficult, less intense, with more minimal of
ideas, but still coming forth from the first aproach. Still they are one
of the all time best Italian bands. If you're up to it, start with
"Introspezzione".

Supersister - Present from Nancy (1970) Canterbury Scene • Netherlands
SUPERSISTER had a sound very much in the Canterbury scene, and if I had
to compare them to another band it would with no doubt be CARAVAN. They
blend their own Dutch ideals and a touch humor into a unique mixture of
progressive rock. Plenty of flute or sax or both can be heard weaving in
and out of the varied organ and piano. Influences from FRANK ZAPPA
& THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION, some WIGWAM (lots of organ) and from THE
SOFT MACHINE (especially from the time when THE SOFT MACHINE was a
trio) can be heard.
"Present From Nancy" (1971) is a incredible debut-album featuring greats tracks, lots of flute and distorbed organ and a vocalist who sounds quite a bit like Richard SINCLAIR. "Present from Nancy" and "To the Highest Ridder" are generally the recommended starting places and work your way forward. One of the absolutely best groups from the Dutch progressive rock scene.

Patric Moraz - The Story of I (1976) Reup
Hoje recebi um pedido especial, era este disco, ai parei e pensei: Porque não pensei nisso antes!!! Este álbum é espetacular, lembro que comprei logo que saiu e fiquei apaixonada, ele morou na pick-up esquerda por um tempão, pra você Didier, abraço! Obrigada pela lembrança
Observação o disco é tão bom que publiquei no discos fundamentais também é o primeiro álbum solo da carreira de Patrick, alias um dos seus melhores trabalhos, adoro este disco, acho que foi uma sacada de mestre a introdução de elementos afro-brasileiros no álbum, o disco tem um clima bastante interessante e foi na época uma novidade sonora pra mim, mesmo acostumada a muitos discos de progressivo ousados e com elementos bastante diferentes, apaixonei neste álbum e ele passou um longo periodo em uma de minhas pick-ups (tinha duas na época, adorava mixar minhas gravações em fitas cassetes, o que fazia de mim a dj da hora entre os amigos, hehehe!!). Disco recomendadissimo!´Retirado da publicação original aqui no blog.

Adoro quando alguém me manda um link e me surpreendo com o que ouço.
Música atemporal é assim, pode ter sido feita há 30 anos ou 30 minutos, tanto faz, é boa! Este disco é bom e deve ser ouvido várias vezes, sempre surge algo novo, algo que passou batido da vez anterior. Saboreie como um bom vinho deve ser saboreado.

Na origem da Terra, em sua atmosfera, havia muita água, gases e relâmpagos. Quando esses três elementos se juntaram, deram surgimento a diversas substâncias que começaram a fazer do planeta um ambiente propício para a vida.
Celebrando 25 anos de estrada, o baixista Alessandro Aru reuniu vários amigos, integrantes de diversas bandas do cenário musical do rock alagoano, que influenciaram diretamente sua formação musical e que, em algum momento participaram de sua história, para gravar o álbum Origens.
Rogério Cavalcante (Primeiro comparsa de música), Fred Hollanda (Água Mineral, Mopho e Canela Seca), Hélio Pisca (Água Mineral e Mopho), João Paulo (Água Mineral e Mopho), Leonardo Luiz (Mopho, Cores Astrais e Messias Elétrico), Michell Campos (Cores Astrais), Daniel Gontijo (Barba de Gato), Ney Guedes (Cachorro Urubu), Phillipe Hollanda (Cachorro Urubu), Eduardo Bahia (Santo Samba), Pedro Salvador (Canela Seca e Messias Elétrico), Thiago Alef (Canela Seca), Fernando Coelho (Messias Elétrico), Lillian Lessa (Messias Elétrico), Renan Di Carvalho (Lado B), Daniel Queiroz (Jams Sessions), Dácio Messias (Estúdio Concha Acústica).
A trajetória musical deste filho natural de Maceió contribui até hoje com os capítulos mais importantes do gênero em sua terra natal. Alessandro integrou a formação original da banda Mopho – é dele o baixo vigoroso e de timbre aveludado nas gravações originais de A Geladeira, Uma Leitura Mineral Incrível, Mosca sobre a Cabeça e Eu Quero Tudo, quatro clássicos do rock nacional presente na demo-tape de estréia da banda, em 1997 – que conquistou corações e mentes por todo o Brasil.
Com seu estilo único, inspirado em ícones do instrumento no rock and roll – como John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), John Entwistle (The Who) e Jack Bruce (Cream) –, o baixista apresenta musicalidade sempre de alta octanagem, que pode ser conferida nas músicas de bandas como Cores Astrais, Santo Samba, Cachorro Urubu e Messias Elétrico – essa última da qual é membro fundador e possui dois discos lançados pela gravadora Baratos Afins.
A relação com o instrumento é visceral a ponto de diversas músicas de sua autoria terem sido compostas originalmente no baixo elétrico.
No caso de Origens, o projeto foi formatado a partir de canções compostas pelo baixista e que enveredaram para uma obra conceitual, uma única música, uma espécie de suíte subdivida em seis partes.
Para a produção do trabalho, buscou-se registrar o lado mais orgânico dos músicos por meio de “jams sessions” das quais foram retiradas parte do material gravado.
A idéia de Origens pode ser também traduzida como um encontro para celebrar a amizade e o resgate do que existe de mais autêntico quando se fala em música: amigos expressando suas verdades através de sons.

With over 30 years experience in the music industry, the
multi-instrumentalist known as THE PSYCHEDELIC ENSEMBLE has garnered
numerous awards including more than 20 ASCAP awards and many others.
Having worked as a performer, composer, and arranger with many
preeminent musicians worldwide, the artist has recently released five
solo albums under the moniker of THE PSYCHEDELIC ENSEMBLE.
In 2009, Musea Records released the debut album, "The Art of Madness". Nominated Best Debut Album at ProgAwards, the album reached top rankings on polls and charts worldwide. 2010 saw the release of "The Myth of Dying". Nominated Best Foreign Record and Best Production at ProgAwards, the album also reached top rankings on charts and polls around the globe coming in at No. 29 on the 2010 Global Progressive Rock Poll Top 100. In 2011 "The Dream of the Magic Jongleur" was released. A progressive rock album that combines symphonic prog and fusion styles. "The Dream of the Magic Jongleur" fuses a complex collection of songs with a beautiful collection of original artworks produced for the album. Nominated for Best Keyboard Performance (Album) and Best Keyboard Solo (The Riddle) by "The Proggies" awards, the album reached many critics' 2011 Top 10 lists including No. 1 (Alex Torres, Dutch Progressive Rock Page), No. 2 (Jon Neudorf, Sea of Tranquility), No. 3 (Gert Hulshof, Dutch Progressive Rock Page), Top 10 Progressive News Germany, Editors' Choice (Wild Thing magazine, Greece), No. 9 (ProgLog Afterglow), the Top 100 Global Progressive Rock Poll, and additional polls worldwide. The Glass Orchestra - Same / Human (2 álbuns)

The Glass Orchestra, founded in 1977, is the only ensemble in the world whose musicians create and perform contemporary compositions entirely with glass instruments. Drawing on a wide range of musical influences and performance techniques, the musicians explore the unique sonic properties of glass, creating an ethereal, percussive soundscape with a vast array of glass instruments, both "found" and custom made. The skill of the members of the Orchestra in designing and making glass instruments has earned them a place in the New Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments.
The Glass Orchestra has appeared in major cities across Canada and has toured the United States from New York to Honolulu, and Europe from London to Berlin. In 1989, the ensemble completed an important seven-week tour of Asia, which took them to Taiwan, Macau, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, Japan and the Shenzeng and Zuhai International Arts Festivals in China.
Because of the extremes of its dynamic and frequency ranges, glass music has always proved a challenge to record. The Glass Orchestra has released four commercial recordings, the most recent titled "HUMAN". Through the use of the most sophisticated equipment, listeners are provided with a faithful reproduction of the delicacy and transparency of the timbre of glass musical instruments. Distribution, on CD or cassette, is through the Canadian Music Centre.

ERIC CADESKY (Artistic Director and curator of the Glass Orchestra FAQ) is the inventor of many of the handmade glass instruments played by the ensemble. Dedicated to extending the boundaries of traditional glass music, he is also a composer and percussionist with experience in African, Latin, Jazz and New Music ensemble performance. In addition Eric enjoys composing music for ballet and modern dance, feature films, theatre, video and television. His compositions have been performed around the world.
The performance experience of guitarist BILL PARSONS encompasses jazz, improvised, concert, popular, and world music. As a composer and arranger, he has worked within a wide range of musical settings from jazz and concert music to interdisciplinary works with filmmakers, photographers, theatre directors, and choreographers. Bill Parsons also writes poetry, lyrics, and has just finished co-writing a screenplay. Bill performs internationally with the Evergreen Club, John Wyre's Heartbeat Orchestra, Pirate Jennyand Sunda Duo, on Indonesian kacapi (20 string zither) with suling (bamboo flute)
PAUL HODGE is the Technical Director of the Music Gallery, Toronto, the Centre for Contemporary Music in Canada. Active in all aspects of music and sound production his numerous recordings have been broadcast on City-TV, CBC, BBC Great Britain and NHK Japan and released on LP, cassette and CD. Non-curricular interests include astronomy, parenting and surfing (in alphabetical order).
RICHARD SACKS received his Masters in music at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he studied with Raymond Desroches, Arthur Weisberg and Charles Rosen. He was a member of the Bennington College faculty from 1977-79 and maintained a freelance career in New York until moving to Toronto in 1981. Richard continues to perform with the Glass Orchestra, Arraymusic, The Evergreen Club, New Music Concerts and the Esprit Orchestra, as well as writing for dance and multi-media. He appears on many recordings with these and other groups.
