Maserati

Maserati (Italian pronunciation: [mazeˈraːti]) is an Italian luxury car manufacturer established on December 1, 1914, in Bologna. The Maserati tagline is "Luxury, sports and style cast in exclusive cars", and the brand's mission statement is to "Build ultra-luxury performance automobiles with timeless Italian style, accommodating bespoke interiors, and effortless, signature sounding power".

The company's headquarters are now in Modena, and its emblem is a trident. It has been owned by the Italian car giant Fiat S.p.A. since 1993. Maserati was initially associated with Ferrari S.p.A., which is also owned by Fiat, but more recently it has become part of the sports car group including Alfa Romeo and Abarth (see section below). In May 2014, due to ambitious plans and product launches, Maserati sold a record of over 3,000 cars. This caused them to increase production of the Quattroporte and Ghibli models. In addition to the Ghibli and Quattroporte, Maserati offers the Maserati GranTurismo, the GranTurismo Convertible, and has confirmed that it will be offering the Maserati Levante, the first Maserati SUV, in 2016, and the Maserati Alfieri, a new 2+2 in 2016. Maserati is placing a production output cap at 75,000 vehicles globally.

Maserati GranTurismo

The Maserati GranTurismo is a two-door, four-seat coupé produced by the Italian car manufacturer Maserati. It shares the platform of the Maserati Quattroporte V and parts of the Ferrari 599 GTB and Scaglietti.

GranTurismo (2007–)

The vehicle was unveiled at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. The GranTurismo has a drag coefficient of 0.33. The standard version has a 4.2 litre (4,244 cc (259.0 cu in)) V8 engine designed in conjunction with Ferrari with 405 PS (298 kW; 399 hp) and automatic ZF gearbox six-speed transmission. The 2+2 body has been derived from the Maserati Quattroporte V, with double-wishbone front suspensions and a multilink rear suspension. The car is a GT (Grand Tourer) that emphasizes comfort in harmony with speed and driver-enjoyment.

GranTurismo S (2008–2012)

The S version was unveiled in 2008 Geneva Motor show and features a 4.7 litre (4,691 cc (286.3 cu in)) V8 engine rated 440 PS (324 kW; 434 hp) at 7000 rpm and 490 N·m (360 lb·ft) at 4750 rpm, a 6-speed sequential semi-automatic transmission with transaxle layout, 47% front and 53% rear weight distribution. The standard suspension set-up is fixed-setting steel dampers, with the Skyhook adaptive suspension available as an option. It was available in the North American market only for 2009 MY.

Maserati Ghibli

Maserati Ghibli is the name of three different cars produced by Italian manufacturer Maserati: a V8 grand tourer from 1966 to 1973, a V6 twin-turbo coupé from 1992 to 1997, and the Maserati Ghibli (M157) executive saloon from 2013 on.

In a still-standing Maserati tradition the Ghibli is named after a wind, the Libyan name for the hot and dry, south-western blowing desert Sirocco.

Ghibli I (AM115)

The original Ghibli (Tipo AM115) is a two-door, 2+2 V8-engined grand tourer released by Maserati in 1967. The Ghibli debuted at the 1966 Turin Motor Show. American magazine Sports Car International named it number nine on its list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s. In 1974 it was replaced by the Maserati Khamsin.

History

The Ghibli was first unveiled in prototype form on the Maserati stand at the November 1966 Turin Motor Show. Its steel body, characterized by a low, shark-shaped nose, was designed by a young Giorgetto Giugiaro, then working at Ghia. Deliveries started in March of the following year. While the 1966 Ghia prototype was a two-seater, on the production car two emergency rear seats were added—consisting of nothing more than a cushion without backrest—and the Ghibli was marketed as a 2+2.
