Kerala (/ˈkɛrələ/), historically known as Keralam, is a state in South India on the Malabar coast. It was formed on 1 November 1956 following the States Reorganisation Act by combining Malayalam-speaking regions. Spread over 38,863 km2 (15,005 sq mi), it is bordered by Karnataka to the north and northeast, Tamil Nadu to the east and south, and the Lakshadweep Sea to the west. With 33,387,677 inhabitants as per the 2011 Census, Kerala is the thirteenth largest state by population and is divided into 14 districts with the capital being Thiruvananthapuram. Malayalam is the most widely spoken and the official language of the state.
The region was a prominent spice exporter since 3000 BCE. The Chera Dynasty was the first prominent kingdom based in Kerala, though it frequently struggled against attacks by the neighbouring Cholas and Pandyas. In the 15th century, the spice trade attracted Portuguese traders to Kerala, and paved the way for the European colonisation of India. After independence, Travancore and Cochin joined the Republic of India and Travancore-Cochin was given the status of a state in 1949. In 1956, Kerala state was formed by merging Malabar district, Travancore-Cochin (excluding four southern taluks), and the taluk of Kasargod, South Kanara.
India, officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.
Street food is ready-to-eat food or drink sold by a hawker, or vendor, in a street or other public place, such as at a market or fair. It is often sold from a portable food booth, food cart, or food truck and meant for immediate consumption. Some street foods are regional, but many have spread beyond their region of origin. Most street foods are classed as both finger food and fast food, and are cheaper on average than restaurant meals. According to a 2007 study from the Food and Agriculture Organization, 2.5 billion people eat street food every day.
Today, people may purchase street food for a number of reasons, such as to get flavorful food for a reasonable price in a sociable setting, to experience ethnic cuisines, or for nostalgia.
Small fried fish were a street food in ancient Greece, however, Theophrastus held the custom of street food in low regard. Evidence of a large number of street food vendors were discovered during the excavation of Pompeii. Street food was widely consumed by poor urban residents of ancient Rome whose tenement homes did not have ovens or hearths. Here, chickpea soup with bread and grain paste were common meals. In ancient China, street food generally catered to the poor, however, wealthy residents would send servants to buy street food and bring it back for them to eat in their homes.
Indian cuisine encompasses a wide variety of regional cuisines native to India. Given the range of diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines vary significantly from each other and use locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also heavily influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. There has also been Central Asian influence on North Indian cuisine from the years of Mughal rule. Indian cuisine has been and is still evolving, as a result of the nation's cultural interactions with other societies.
Historical incidents such as foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism have also played a role in introducing certain foods to the country. For instance, the potato, a staple of the Indian diet, was brought to India by the Portuguese, who also introduced chillies and breadfruit. Indian cuisine has also shaped the history of international relations; the spice trade between India and Europe is often cited by historians as the primary catalyst for Europe's Age of Discovery. Spices were bought from India and traded around Europe and Asia. It has also influenced other cuisines across the world, especially those from Southeast Asia, the British Isles, Fiji, and the Caribbean.

http://www.phenomenalplace.com The Backwaters of Alappuzha (Alleppey) is located in the South Indian state of Kerala. It is a popular tourist destination where people spend a day or two in houseboats and enjoy the pristine natural beauty. Aleppey is considered to be the oldest city of Kerala and is often known as the "Venice Of The East". The reason for this name is of course, due to so much interconnecting water "highways" and the number of boats. There are thousands of boats in Alappuzha and they come in all sizes. The backwaters of Kerala are a chain of lagoons, and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian sea coast. The backwaters consist of 5 large lakes linked by canals and fed by 38 different rivers. This forms almost 560 miles of waterways, spanning to almost half of Kerala. Such a v...

(This is my first attempt at editing something together. The music is Incubus, "Aqueous Transmissions". I hope I don't get sued!) Too much plane turbulence. Full day of transit. Two blond girls act like selfish children, running off after the plane hits the ground, to get away from M and her young daughter. I understand they want to go at a faster pace, but it is totally bitchy and juvenile of them to not explain their plan to split from mom and child, and leaving A and I to make a choice. We go with the two blonds the first night in Trivundram, but I am so angry at them for their actions. I tell A I'm not following them. joby and nisha wedding kerala, india,
We're at the tip-top, yeah, we're not getting any better than this
I'm out of lines, girl, I'm not getting any smoother than this
But could you blame me if I...if I...if I...
Took you all for prisoner with just one line, one lie
Because I'll be the preacher to all his converts
"donate now to my rightful cause"
But what good is a quick healing to go?
If the lesson is never learned it's just like stitches for show
They say the carolina heat
Isn't something that keeping a cool head can beat
But don't discount their winter winds
And all the cold shoulders that the slightest draft lets in
But with empty stomachs and hungry eyes
Our only choice was to swallow pride
But I guess you just ate much better than the rest
We're at the ground floor
But our numbers they only get higher from here
It's not the failure, but the cost of success
Is the thing I can't help but fear
This isn't righteous
It's a mid-life crisis
I'm not compelled
You just convinced me to write this
It's for the greater good
'Cause I'd rather be great than good
They say the carolina heat
Isn't something that keeping a cool head can beat
But don't discount their winter winds
And all the cold shoulders that the slightest draft lets in
But with empty stomachs and hungry eyes
Our only choice was to swallow pride
But I guess you just ate much better than the rest
You're skin was appealing wallpaper
Now you're skin is just peeling wallpaper
They say the carolina heat
Isn't something that keeping a cool head can beat
But don't discount their winter winds
And all the cold shoulders that the slightest draft lets in
But with empty stomachs and hungry eyes
Our only choice was to swallow pride
