MS-DOS (/ˌɛmɛsˈdɒs/ EM-es-DOSS; acronym for Microsoft Disk Operating System) is an operating system for x86-based personal computers mostly developed by Microsoft. It was the most commonly used member of the DOS family of operating systems, and was the main operating system for IBM PC compatible personal computers during the 1980s to the mid-1990s, when it was gradually superseded by operating systems offering a graphical user interface (GUI), in various generations of the graphical Microsoft Windows operating system by Microsoft Corporation.
MS-DOS resulted from a request in 1981 by IBM for an operating system to use in its IBM PC range of personal computers. Microsoft quickly bought the rights to 86-DOS from Seattle Computer Products, and began work on modifying it to meet IBM's specification. IBM licensed and released it in August 1981 as PC DOS 1.0 for use in their PCs. Although MS-DOS and PC DOS were initially developed in parallel by Microsoft and IBM, in subsequent years the two products diverged and became different from each other, with recognizable differences in compatibility, syntax, and capabilities.
Windows 98 (codenamed Memphis while in development) is a graphical operating system by Microsoft. It is the second major release in the Windows 9x line of operating systems and the successor to Windows 95. It was released to manufacturing on May 15, 1998 and to retail on June 25, 1998.
Like its predecessor, Windows 98 is a hybrid 16-bit/32-bit monolithic product with an MS-DOS based boot stage. Windows 98 was succeeded by Windows 98 Second Edition on May 5, 1999, which in turn was succeeded by Windows ME on June 19, 2000. Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 98 and 98 SE on June 30, 2002, and extended support on July 11, 2006.
The famous startup sound for Windows 98 was composed by Microsoft sound engineer Ken Kato, who considered it to be a "tough act to follow."
Development of Windows 98 began in the 1990s, initially under the development codename "Memphis." Many builds were released or leaked, starting with build 1351 on December 15, 1996 and ending with Windows 98SE.

Can MS-DOS still be used as your main OS in 2016? Music by Kevin MacLeod
it was bound to happen eventually this is why you can never include a "boot from USB floppy" option when I'm around
http://priyaranjancomputertutorial.weebly.com/ The term DOS can refer to any operating system, but it is most often used as a shorthand for MS-DOS (Microsoft disk operating system). Originally developed by Microsoft for IBM, MS-DOS was the standard operating system for IBM-compatible personal computers.

In this video guide I am showing how to install MS-DOS 7.1. Head to Bootdisk.com and create a 7.1 boot disk (Windows 98 SE Custom, No Ramdrive). MS-DOS 7.1 adds FAT32 support, so you can use hard drives up to 120 GB. First I show you how to remove all existing partitions and how to create a new partition. Then we format the partition and make it bootable. We create a folder named DOS and copy the files from the floppy disk across. One file is missing: EMM386.EXE, you can get it from an existing Windows 98 installation, the file is in the Windows folder. I also show my MS-DOS Starter Pack, which will install a boot menu with memory options as well as a mouse and CD-ROM. This method will have a Windows 98 splash screen when booting, if you want to get rid of this, I show you what you nee...

The next generation features of concrete5 makes Drupal, Joomla or even Wordpress feel like the MS-Dos days when it comes to content management systems.
This is a small video of Digger (great game!) running under MS-DOS on a bridgeboard. Bridgeboards are expansion cards connected to the Amigas, which provide a real x86 processor, and with the proper software setup can run at the same time as AmigaOS. Models included 8088/8086 up to 80486 with various combinations of RAM. Those cards could also enable access to the otherwise inactive ISA slots on Amigas. In turn, AmigaOS and MSDOS could utilize ISA Ethernet cards, VGA cards etc.

My dearest Miss Patsy, I?m writing to say
That I?m sorry to not be in touch
It?s been quite a parade, but my thoughts never strayed
Too far, or too long, or too much
Miss Patsy, forgive all the choices I made
I?ve been fighting shadows on the wrong crusade
Looking for ghosts in a penny arcade
Miss Patsy, no more will I roam
Miss Patsy, won?t you carry me home?
They held me to ransom back there in the foothills
And nobody stumped up a bean
Not Swifty, nor Eddie, came up with the ready
It can make you think people plain mean
I?ve been hanging out with some virtuous people
They emptied my bank account twice
They gave me self-confidence, even some clothes
And a truckload of love and advice
When they gave out the cyanide pills with a wink
And said, "Wait for the word, any day now, we think"
I knew it was time to pull back from the brink
Miss Patsy, no more will I roam
Miss Patsy, won?t you carry me home?
Miss Patsy, I looked at myself in the mirror
Decided I needed some work
Got me a nose job, a shave and a haircut
To drive all them ladies berserk
But the arm 'round my waist was a man in dark blue
He said, "Ain?t you him? We?ve been looking for you"
Now I?m sharing a cell with a holy kung fu
Miss Patsy, no more will I roam
