Stucco pumping systems have in the distant past been accomplished with heavy-duty pumps, they were named in the plastering industry “Tommy Guns”, these monster trailer-mounted pumping units weighed 2,500 pounds or more. These monster “Tommy Guns” were powerful pumps have proven effective at providing high production rates over long distances, but often presented logistical challenges due to their size. I had a Tommy gun many years ago and found after 3 years it was too large and bulky and required at least 10 to 14 men to operate. I paid close to 70K and sold for less than a third of that after 3 years but that’s another story, don’t do that. Recent modern advances in portable pumps, especially by Graco as in their new and modern toughTek Mortar Equipment, keep up with a changing world. Google, images Graco pumps it's mind-boggling how many different pumps they manufacture and for every purpose. FYI, Graco designed painting pumps as far back as far back as 1950, their painting pumps alone are sold worldwide among other pumping systems for every product under the sun. With Graco’s Toughtek mortar pumping system they have provided us plastering contractors new flexibility plus their engineers realized contractors don’t want machines that run on 220 but instead 110 making it perfect for our needs and yours. Get this, this newer modern Graco ToughTek Mortar pump weighs a mere 200 pounds, instead of the similar one we used that weighed over twice this and with the same amount of power. Graco’s well-engineered mortar pumps are easily portable, thus allows work to be accomplished with much smaller crews. These smaller Graco mortar/stucco/plastering ToughTek pumps even fit through even a standard size door and are easily rolled from one spot to another by just one person. Try moving a Tommy gun it requires a strong truck and a number of guys. We also had the pleasure of working with Quickcretes newest cement plaster, mortar, stucco, muck, render or what we simply call mud, all terms mean the same thing. All stucco and concrete use Portland cement as a binder, Concrete mixes rocks with their Portland cement with clean water to make concrete, stucco mixes sand with Portland cement with clean water also to create stucco, the use of polystyrene foam for added insulation for stucco walls coated with a cementitious finish yields the same amount of volume but is at least 30 pounds lighter per bag, this is recycled styrofoam which is a newer and also modern greener technology, mother nature needs all the help from all of us in the construction industry thus saving the sand for the oceans where God placed it originally.
