- The Real Summer of Love, Saturday, 20.00, BBC Radio 4
Pick of the Pops last week gave us the height of the summer of love in 1967, and Gambo helpfully pointed out that during this mythical time for British pop and counterculture, the top end of the chart still featured Englebert Humperdinck, Vikki Carr and Topol. Still, even the amazing Summer of Britpop in 1995 saw the charts dominated by Robson and Jerome. Obviously for some the swinging sixties weren’t swinging all that much, especially if you weren’t anywhere near London, and here’s Dominic Sandbrook to expand on that theme.
