Saqib Ali

Saqib Ali (born January 21, 1975) is a former State Delegate in the Maryland House of Delegates, having been elected in 2006 to represent the 39th District. Ali is an American of Indian and Pakistani descent.

Background

Saqib Ali was born on 21 January 1975 in Chicago, Illinois. He is Muslim and credits his parents, who are of Indian and Pakistani descent, as the reason he became involved in politics. "[I am] from a family where they were always having political debates around the house, but then I found out that among all these family members who had all these grand ideas, none of them ever voted. There was a sense that, 'I don't like the way things are, but there's nothing I can do about it.' I thought: I'm going to show these people."

Ali moved to Montgomery County, Maryland in 1991 to attend the University of Maryland, College Park. He went on to receive Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science.

Ali ibn Abi Talib (/ˈɑːli, ɑːˈliː/;Arabic: علي بن أبي طالب‎, translit. ʿAlī bin Abī Ṭālib, Arabic pronunciation: [ʕaliː bɪn ʔabiː t̪ˤaːlɪb]; 13 Rajab, 21 BH – 21 Ramadan, 40 AH; 15 September 601 – 29 January 661) was the cousin and son-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, ruling over the Islamic caliphate from 656 to 661.

Born to Abu Talib and Fatima bint Asad, Ali was the only person born in the sacred sanctuary of the Kaaba in Mecca, the holiest place in Islam, as many sources, especially Shia ones say. Ali was the first young male who accepted Islam. After migrating to Medina, he married Muhammad's daughter Fatimah. Ali took part in the early caravan raids from Mecca and later in almost all the battles fought by the nascent Muslim community. He was appointed caliph by Muhammad's Companions (Sahaba) in 656, after caliph Uthman ibn Affan was assassinated. Ali's reign saw civil unrest and in 661, he was attacked and assassinated by a Kharijite while praying in the Great Mosque of Kufa, dying two days later.

Taji, Iraq

Taji (Arabic: التاجي‎) is a rural district north of the city of Baghdad, within Baghdad Province and Saladin Province.

Taji District has about 400,000 inhabitants.

History

Al-Taji airfield, in the volatile Sunni Triangle, was originally an Iraqi Republican Guard base during the Saddam era. It was once a center for the manufacture of chemical weapons. Taji was also the location of the largest tank maintenance facility in Iraq.

Its religious make-up is changing, due to persecution and forced displacement of Sunni Arab natives and arrival of Shia Arabs favored by the new government in Baghdad.

Ali Mohammad

Hajji Ali Mohammad is a politician representing Logar Province in the Wolesi Jirga, the lower house of Afghanistan's national legislature. According to a report prepared by the Program for Culture and Conflict Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School Ali Mohammed sat on the Communications Committee. They reported he might be politically affiliated with Yunus Qanuni, the speaker of the house, in addition to being a member of the Hezbi Islami.

Pajhwok Afghan News reported on February 25, 2012, that Ali Mohammad's son Khalid had been kidnapped. The identity or affiliation of the kidnappers was unknown.
