Go Do

Go Do is an extended play (EP) by the Icelandic singer Jónsi, the lead singer of Sigur Rós. Go Do was released on 22 March 2010 as the lead single from his debut solo album, Go. The EP was produced by American producer Peter Katis, Jónsi and his boyfriend, Alex Somers.

Music

The song "Go Do" features "heavy" percussion, which was described by Brian Boyd in The Irish Times as "exuberant in its execution". The song also contains "jittery electronics and fluttering flutes".

Video

The video for "Go Do" was directed by the Icelandic duo árni & kinski, who had previously directed videos for Sigur Rós. It was recorded over the 2009–10 Christmas and New Year period in Iceland. The video features Jónsi wearing sewn-on rags and feathers, and is described on MTV's website as releasing his "natural weirdness".

Reception

British music magazine Clash said that the music "alternately flutters and bangs" and went on to say that it would not alienate Sigur Rós fans as it was a "semi-logical progression of their sound". The California Chronicle said that "if ever a track is going to make you celebrate the day, this is it" and described it as "A pounding, soaring, seize the moment song."Allmusic, reviewing the song along with "Animal Arithmetic", said that it sounded like "the bubbling soundtrack to an awesome training montage in a film where pixies are training to battle fairies."

Operation U-Go

The U Go offensive, or Operation C (ウ号作戦), was the Japanese offensive launched in March 1944 against forces of the British Empire in the northeast Indian region of Manipur. Aimed at the Brahmaputra valley, through the two towns of Imphal and Kohima, the offensive along with the overlapping Ha Go offensive was one of the last major Japanese offensives during the Second World War. The offensive culminated in the Battles of Imphal and Kohima where the Japanese and their allies were first held and then pushed back.

Origins of the Japanese plan

In 1942, the Japanese Army had driven the British, Indian and Chinese troops out of Burma. When heavy monsoon rains stopped campaigning, the British and Indian troops had occupied Imphal, the capital of Manipur state. This lay in a plain astride one of the few practicable routes over the jungle-covered mountains which separated India and Burma. The Japanese commander in Burma, Lieutenant General Shōjirō Iida, was asked for his opinion on whether a renewed advance should be made into India after the rains ended. After conferring with his divisional commanders, Iida reported that it would be unwise to do so, because of the difficult terrain and supply problems.

Do I

"Do I" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Luke Bryan. It was released in May 2009 as the lead-off single from his album Doin' My Thing. Bryan co-wrote the song with Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley of the group Lady Antebellum, whose co-lead singer Hillary Scott is featured on background vocals.

Bryan told CMT that, "the song is about a couple that doesn't know if their worlds are right with each other, or they don't know how their relationship's going down hill".

The song is in the key of A major, with Bryan's vocals ranging from C♯4 to F♯5.

Critical reception

Stephen M. Deusner of Engine 145 gave the song a thumbs-down. Although he described the lyrics favorably by saying that "the scenario is all the more affecting for its mundanity" and "'Do I' implies no hint of a happily ever after, and that ambiguity gives the lyrics extra impact", Deusner criticized Bryan's vocal performance, saying "it never quite conveys much desperation or despair. There’s no worry in his voice, nor does it sound like he’s trying to keep a stoic front." Chris Neal of Country Weekly described the song favorably in his review of the album, saying that it "shows a knack for convincingly delivering hymns to thwarted love."
