Daniel Simon Atherton, known as Dan Atherton (born 25 January 1982, near Salisbury), is a professional racing cyclist specialising in downhill, four cross and enduro-downhill mountain bike racing, and is a former national champion of Great Britain. He began riding BMX at the age of 15 and mountain biking a year later.
From 2007 till 2011, Atherton was one third of the Animal Commençal racing team, alongside brother Gee Atherton and sister Rachel Atherton.
He is now part of the GT Factory Racing team with brother Gee, sister Rachel and old friend Marc Beaumont, and is primarily racing Enduro-downhill and occasional downhill races.
Dan Atherton, along with Rachel and Gee, was the star of the web series The Atherton Project, which followed their day-to-day lives.
In 2010 Atherton broke a vertebra in his neck whilst dirt jumping and has missed half of the season including the World Championships.
After the 2012 season's end, Atherton won the Asia Pacific Downhill Challenge in Indonesia.
Red Bull is an energy drink sold by Austrian company Red Bull GmbH, created in 1987. In terms of market share, Red Bull is the highest-selling energy drink in the world, with 5.387 billion cans sold in 2013.
Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz was inspired by an existing energy drink named Krating Daeng, which was first invented and sold in Thailand. He took this idea, modified the ingredients to suit the tastes of Westerners, and, in partnership with Chaleo Yoovidhya, founded Red Bull GmbH in 1987 in Chakkapong, Thailand. In Thai, daeng means red, and krating is the large bovine called "gaur". Red Bull is sold in a tall and slim blue-silver can, while Krating Daeng is in a gold shorter can. The two are different products, produced separately.
The Red Bull company slogan is "Red Bull gives you wings", and the product is marketed through advertising, events (Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, Red Bull Air Race, Red Bull Crashed Ice), sports team ownerships (RB Leipzig, FC Red Bull Salzburg, Red Bull Brasil, New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Racing, Scuderia Toro Rosso), celebrity endorsements, and music, through its record label Red Bull Records.
Atherton may refer to:
A bull is an intact (i.e., not castrated) adult male of the species Bos taurus (cattle). More muscular and aggressive than the female of the species, the cow, the bull has long been an important symbol in many cultures, and plays a significant role in both beef and dairy farming, and in a variety of other cultural activities.
The female counterpart to a bull is a cow, while a male of the species which has been castrated is a steer, ox or bullock, although in North America this last term refers to a young bull, and in Australia to a draught animal. Usage of these terms varies considerably with area and dialect. Colloquially, people unfamiliar with cattle may refer to both castrated and intact animals as "bulls".
A wild, young, unmarked bull is known as a micky in Australia. Improper or late castration on a bull results in it becoming a coarse steer, also known as a stag in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. In some countries an incompletely castrated male is known also as a rig or ridgling.
George David Atherton, known as Gee Atherton (born 26 February 1985, near Salisbury, England) is a professional racing cyclist specialising in downhill and four cross mountain bike racing, and is a multiple national champion, multiple World Cup winner, 2010 Downhill World Cup Champion, and 2010 & 2014 Downhill World Champion.
From 2007 to 2011, Gee was one third of the Animal Commençal racing team, alongside brother Dan Atherton and sister Rachel Atherton. In 2012 the Athertons started riding for team GT Factory Racing, along with Marc Beaumont.
Gee, along with Rachel and Dan, is the star of the web series "The Atherton Project" a series which follows their day-to-day lives. In 2012 Gee was racing for GT racing.
In the 2012 season, Gee finished 3rd overall to Greg Minnaar and American world cup winner Aaron Gwin. At the world championships in Leogang Austria Gee finished 2nd by 0.58 of a second to Greg Minnaar.
He was pre-qualified for the world-renowned 2012 Red Bull Rampage in Utah but after a major crash in practice was unable to compete.
Dan Atherton can often be found on the “worlds most stylish rider” lists but he’s probably as famous for his trail-building skills and his incredible work ethic as for his riding skills. This has never been more apparent as in this latest project which has seen him create two amazing lines in his beloved Dyfi Forest. 90 seconds of Dan Atherton magic from our Diaries Last week the Dyfi Forest trails were dusty and big brother Dan Atherton took a break from sculpting the mountain to play on his Trek Remedy, shredding the Lower Jump Line. Dan said “ One of the reasons we started making the Atherton Diaries is because it gave us the freedom to film our normal lives, if we feel like including a riding section we can just grab whichever bike we feel like riding and go and have some fun, I hope that freedom comes across in this edit, working with ( videographer) Robbie (Meade) always seems pretty effortless... What a race! Stating the Atherton's are on it doesn't do their performance justice. Rach and Gee smoked the field and made a super rough track bow down and obey. The method, as they call it, though it was more so a germ-line procedure of singular meta-scientific complexity, had been
given to them by the alien colonists as a quid pro quo. The Syndicate would help them to create a population of alien hybrids
who would hide in plain sight, cloned from human ova and alien bio-material, so there would be a clone race immune to the
effects of the black oil when the return to the planet began. For this, the Syndicate would be sequestered, granted a sort of
immunity or asylum, given a place in the grander scheme.
They were the Vichy government to the German "Final Solution": collaborationists whose motivation was simple, self-directed
survival. These cloning operations were spread across the country, the cataloging and record-keeping done through a complex
intra-institutional system that connected to every branch of government, from the Social Security Administration to the
Department of Defense.
The operation, under the working title "Purity Control," had been launched in 1948, its original conception the brainchild
of German scientists given immunity themselves for war crimes, and allowed to continue the eugenic experiments that were
Hitler's dark legacy.
The Syndicate had begun as a subset of a shadow intelligence agency whose original orders were to create plausible denial
and an effective cover-up of Purity Control. But through 50 years, numerous U.S. and U.N. administrations, the principals
began to wrest control, accumulating power and influence across international borders, such that - by 1990 - the operation
ceased to have a member accountable to any one government and whose only orders would be taken from a man named Strughold, a
German industrialist who had fled his homeland to northern Africa.
These men, whose knowledge and access provided control of a foreseeable future, had, in spite of this, everything to lose.
Their secret work, the cloning preparations and the cataloging constituted their greatest vulnerability: exposure. Their
detection would ensure not just their own demise, but a far-reaching dissolution of social and religious order around the
globe.
To protect against this, the Syndicate employed methods of disinformation, using covert government programs that had been
regrettably discovered, as a kind of smokescreen - a dodge or blind where the transgressions of Congress-accountable agencies
served to hide their own more odious undertaking.
They had even at times used the UFO phenomenon to create a hysteria that science and the intelligentsia denounced so
completely as to make belief in believers seem ridiculous and completely discreditable.
They had also, in a crisis, used a tool of the colonists themselves - alien bounty hunters who policed the cloning
operations and enforced rule on the countdown to colonization. A double-edged sword whose cold-blooded tactics had helped to
stem a leak or threat, but who also kept a watch on the Syndicate. A threat in itself, as the Syndicate had something to hide
that not even the colonists knew of: a vaccine against the black oil, an inoculant against the substance in which the alien
life force was held - in fact, the very medium of the life force itself.
To guard this secret was perhaps even more critical than the truth of the existence of alien life, and of colonization. If
the Syndicate's own secret vaccine were discovered, the vaccine that would make themselves immune from the effects of the
black oil, they would certainly be destroyed and the timetable for colonization stepped up. They would protect this secret
with their lives. They would kill to protect it, as it symbolized the only hope they had of avoiding enslavement when the
planet was overtaken.
That they had been able to, over decades, conduct their work on the vaccine undetected was the result of a code among the
Syndicate members that put honor and the future above personal politics. But now this code was beginning to break down, an
incipient scramble for power beginning to develop. A threat from within that doubled the threat from without: from agents
Mulder and Scully, and the X-files.
