Sherpas The True Heroes of Mount Everest focuses on the hired Sherpas of a Swiss Everest Expedition Team. Among the Sherpas is Dawa, who has accented the Everest summit thirteen times. The film heroically showcases the role of Sherpas who make it possible for the big-pocketed Western climbers to reach the summit. Would you like to go wherever the hell you want? Using its self-inflated tires, Russia’s SHERP ATV can give you that pleasure. It will climb over obstacles as tall as 27.5 inches, swim with ease, turn like a tank and look awesome in any situation for only $49,000 worth of Rubles.
The SHERP is Alexei Garagashyan’s brilliant invention. It weighs just 2,866 pounds dry, so while it might only have a 44.3 horsepower 1.5 liter Kubota V1505 four-cylinder diesel linked to a five-speed manual, it will still do 28 mph on land, or 3.7 mph in water, depending on the wind. It will also crawl at up to 9.3 mph in first gear.
With its giant custom tires and the skid-steer, it can also turn in its own length, which is 11 feet. And as long as the trees ahead are at least 8.2 feet apart, this crazy two seater will find a way through them.
While it comes with a tough polymer coating and a 15.3 gallon fuel tank as standard, with a bit of extra money, you can equip yours with anything from a high-power generator and a light bar to a trailer and a hard top.

What had happened to the happy, smiling Sherpas and their dedication in getting foreigners to the top of the mountain they hold so sacred? Determined to explore what was going on, the filmmakers set out to make a film of the 2014 Everest climbing season, from the Sherpas’ point of view. Instead, they captured a tragedy that would change Everest forever. At 6.45am on 18th April, 2014, a 14 million ton block of ice crashed down onto the climbing route through the Khumbu Icefall, killing 16 Sherpas. It was the worst tragedy in the history of Everest. The disaster provoked a drastic reappraisal about the role of the Sherpas in the Everest industry. SHERPA, tells the story of how, in the face of fierce opposition, the Sherpas united in grief and anger to reclaim the mountain they call Chomolungma.
Jennifer Peedom is known for her intimate and compassionate portraits, documenting stories from the epic to the everyday, often in extreme situations. Her credits include the internationally renowned documentaries MIRACLE ON EVEREST and SOLO.
Jen is an experienced climber, and has worked as a high altitude director on several expeditions including Discovery Channel’s six-part series EVEREST: BEYOND THE LIMIT. She has developed a strong friendship with Sherpa people over many years of working in the Himalayas since 2004, and these connections were key to the access we were granted in the making of SHERPA. Her awards include an Australian Film Institute and Film Critics Circle Award for Best Documentary, multiple Australian Directors Guild Awards for Best Direction, and a ‘Rocky’ at the World Media Awards. Jen was also awarded the inaugural David and Joan Williams Documentary Fellowship, which recognises and rewards creative ambition, intellectual rigour and innovation in documentary cinema. Jen has directed for ABC, SBS, BBC, France 5, ITVS, Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel.

Mount Everest
Mount Everest, also known in Nepal as Sagarmāthā and in Tibet as Chomolungma, is Earth's highest mountain. It is located in the Mahalangur mountain range in Nepal and Tibet. Its peak is 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level. It is not the furthest summit from the centre of the Earth. That honour goes to Mount Chimborazo, in the Andes. The international border between China (Tibet Autonomous Region) and Nepal runs across Everest's precise summit point. Its massif includes neighbouring peaks Lhotse, 8,516 m (27,940 ft); Nuptse, 7,855 m (25,771 ft) and Changtse, 7,580 m (24,870 ft).
In 1856, the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India established the first published height of Everest, then known as Peak XV, at 8,840 m (29,002 ft). The current official height of 8,848 m (29,029 ft) as recognised by China and Nepal was established by a 1955 Indian survey and subsequently confirmed by a Chinese survey in 1975. In 1865, Everest was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society upon a recommendation by Andrew Waugh, the British Surveyor General of India. Waugh named the mountain after his predecessor in the post, Sir George Everest, arguing that there were many local names, against the opinion of Everest.

Sherpa people
Sherpa (Tibetan: "eastern people", from shar "east" and pa "people") are an ethnic group from the most mountainous region of Nepal, high in the Himalayas.
Sherpa as a surname appears to be the result of the Nepalese government census takers. Not recognizing that some people only have one name, they wrote the word on census forms in the space for last name. In some cases the clan name was written and in others the ethnicity, i.e. Sherpa. These have then been adopted or forced to be used as last names, last names not being a part of Sherpa culture. A similar effect is seen with the Karen people, who also do not traditionally have more than one name and are a mobile mountain folk.
Most Sherpa people live in Nepal's eastern regions; however, some live farther west in the Rolwaling valley and in the Helambu region north of Kathmandu. Tengboche is the oldest Sherpa village in Nepal. The Sherpa language belongs to the south branch of the Tibeto-Burman languages; however, this language is separate from Lhasa Tibetan and unintelligible to Lhasa speakers.

Jennifer Peedom
Jennifer Peedom is an Australian documentary film maker. Her documentary Solo (co-directed with David Michôd) won the 2009 Australian Film Institute Award for Best Documentary in Under One Hour, and her documentary Sherpa, which was filmed during the 2014 Mount Everest avalanche, won the 2015 Grierson Award for Best Documentary at the BFI London Film Festival.

SHERPA, a documentary about the mountain guides of Mount Everest, set out to expose tension in the 2014 Everest climbing season from the Sherpa mountain guides point of view and instead captured tragedy when an avalanche struck, killing 16 Sherpas. Director Jennifer Peedom discusses what it was like to film the dangerous expedition as well as capturing the heartbreaking story of how Sherpa guides banded together through tragedy to face issues among the guides as well as the mountain climbing industry in this uncensored BYOD interview hosted by Ondi Timoner. FILM & GUEST INFO: A fight on Everest? It seemed incredible. But in 2013 news channels around the world reported an ugly brawl at 21,000ft as European climbers fled a mob of angry Sherpas. In 1953, New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay had reached the summit in a spirit of co-operation and brave optimism. Now climbers and Sherpas were trading insults – even blows. What had happened to the happy, smiling Sherpas and their dedication in getting foreigners to the top of the mountain they hold so sacred? Determined to explore what was going on, the filmmakers set out to make a film of the 2014 Everest climbing season, from the Sherpas’ point of view. Instead, they captured a tragedy that would change Everest forever. At 6.45am on 18th April, 2014, a 14 million ton block of ice crashed down onto the climbing route through the Khumbu Icefall, killing 16 Sherpas. It was the worst tragedy in the history of Everest. The disaster provoked a drastic reappraisal about the role of the Sherpas in the Everest industry. SHERPA, tells the story of how, in the face of fierce opposition, the Sherpas united in grief and anger to reclaim the mountain they call Chomolungma. Jennifer Peedom is known for her intimate and compassionate portraits, documenting stories from the epic to the everyday, often in extreme situations. Her credits include the internationally renowned documentaries MIRACLE ON EVEREST and SOLO. Jen is an experienced climber, and has worked as a high altitude director on several expeditions including Discovery Channel’s six-part series EVEREST: BEYOND THE LIMIT. She has developed a strong friendship with Sherpa people over many years of working in the Himalayas since 2004, and these connections were key to the access we were granted in the making of SHERPA. Her awards include an Australian Film Institute and Film Critics Circle Award for Best Documentary, multiple Australian Directors Guild Awards for Best Direction, and a ‘Rocky’ at the World Media Awards. Jennifer Peedom is known for her intimate and compassionate portraits, documenting stories from the epic to the everyday, often in extreme situations. Her credits include the internationally renowned documentaries MIRACLE ON EVEREST and SOLO.
Jen is an experienced climber, and has worked as a high altitude director on several expeditions including Discovery Channel’s six-part series EVEREST: BEYOND THE LIMIT. She has developed a strong friendship with Sherpa people over many years of working in the Himalayas since 2004, and these connections were key to the access we were granted in the making of SHERPA. Her awards include an Australian Film Institute and Film Critics Circle Award for Best Documentary, multiple Australian Directors Guild Awards for Best Direction, and a ‘Rocky’ at the World Media Awards. Jen was also awarded the inaugural David and Joan Williams Documentary Fellowship, which recognises and rewards creative ambition, intellectual rigour and innovation in documentary cinema. Jen has directed for ABC, SBS, BBC, France 5, ITVS, Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel.
