Prada S.p.A. (/prɑːdə/; Italian pronunciation: [ˈpraːda]) is an Italian luxury fashion house, specializing in ready-to-wear leather and fashion accessories, shoes, luggage, perfumes, watches, etc., founded in 1913 by Mario Prada.
The company was started in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino as a leather goods shop – Fratelli Prada (English: Prada Brothers) – in Milan, Italy. Initially, the shop sold leather goods and imported English steamer trunks and handbags.
Mario Prada did not believe that women should have a role in business, and so he prevented female family members from entering into his company. Ironically, Mario's son harbored no interest in the business, so it was his daughter Luisa Prada who took the helm of Prada as his successor, and ran it for almost twenty years. Her own daughter, Miuccia Prada, joined the company in 1970, eventually taking over for her mother in 1978.
Miuccia began making waterproof backpacks out of Pocone. She met Patrizio Bertelli in 1977, an Italian who had begun his own leather goods business at the age of 17, and he joined the company soon after. He advised Miuccia—and she followed the advice—on better decisions for the Prada company. It was his advice to discontinue importing English goods and to change the existing luggage.
Ruiz is a surname of Spanish origin. It means "son of Rui". Rui, also spelled Ruy, is a common Spanish given name.
Norberto Juan Ortiz Osborne (born 7 December 1954 in Madrid, Spain), known as Bertín Osborne, is a Spanish vocalist, actor and TV personality. But his life and his childhood are related to his maternal origins in Puerto de Santa Maria and later in Jerez de la Frontera.
Osborne's first musical performance was in 1971 at the Song Festival at El Escorial, but he had to wait until 1980 to sign his first contract to record an album.
Osborne was married to Alejandra (Sandra) Domecq Williams, from 1977 until their divorce in 1991, who died in 2004. The couple had three daughters: Alejandra (b. 1978), Eugenia (b. 1986) and Claudia (b. 1989), as well as a son (Cristian; 1977-1977), who died at less than one year of age.
He remarried, on 10 June 2006, Fabiola Martínez Benavides, from Maracaibo, Venezuela; the couple has two children, Norberto Enrique and Carlos Alberto. Norberto has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which led Bertin to create the Fundacion Bertin Osborne, a non-profit organization devoted to helping children with this diagnosis. Bertin has brought his son to The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential (IAHP) for treatment, and has used his foundation to spread the word in Spain about IAHP's work.
Pedro José Ramírez Codina (born 26 March 1952 in Logroño, La Rioja, Spain), more often known as Pedro J. Ramírez, is a Spanish journalist. When he was appointed to manage Diario 16 at the age of 28, he became Spain's youngest editor of a national newspaper. In 1989 he founded the newspaper El Mundo, managing it continuously until 2014, making him the longest-serving editor of any Spanish national newspaper. He has collaborated with several radio and television programmes and has published a dozen books.
He is married to the designer Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, and they have two children born in 1987 and 1990. He has a daughter from a previous marriage to Rocío Fernández Iglesias.
He was raised in a middle-class family from La Rioja and for 13 years received his primary and secondary education at the Hermanos Maristas school in Logroño. He studied journalism at the University of Navarra, where he also began a degree in Law. While there, he directed the university's Theatre Group, participating in several national and international festivals. He graduated with a degree in Journalism in 1973 with a thesis titled 'Towards Informative Theatre'. Upon finishing his degree, he worked as a lecturer in Contemporary Spanish Literature at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania, living in the United States during the decisive year of the Watergate case. He interviewed the editor of The Washington Post, Ben Bradlee, for the magazine La Actualidad Española, along with other important figures at the time in US media.
