Elizabeth "Lee" Miller, Lady Penrose (April 23, 1907 – July 21, 1977), was an American photographer. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 1907, she was a successful fashion model in New York City in the 1920s before going to Paris, where she became an established fashion and fine art photographer. During the Second World War, she became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue, covering events such as the London Blitz, the liberation of Paris, and the concentration camps at Buchenwald and Dachau.
Miller was born on April 23, 1907, in Poughkeepsie, New York. Her parents were Theodore and Florence Miller (née MacDonald). Her father was of German descent, and her mother of Canadian, Scottish and Irish descent. She had a younger brother named Erik, and an older brother named John. Theodore always favored Lee, and he often used her as a model for his amateur photography. When she was seven years old, she was raped while staying with a family friend in Brooklyn and infected with gonorrhea.
Abigale "Abby" Lee Miller (born September 21, 1966) is a dance instructor, choreographer, and the director and owner of Reign Dance Productions. She is also the founder of the Abby Lee Dance Company.
Abby Lee Miller was born to Maryen Lorrain, a dance teacher, and George L. Miller. She was raised a Roman Catholic. During her school years, Abby studied dance and choreography., participated in ski club, Girl Scouts, took clarinet lessons, and attended charm school.
Miller grew up around dance and she realized that her talents didn't come from being on stage performing. She preferred to choreograph a dance, instead of performing it. Miller founded her own studio, Abby Lee Dance Company, at age 14. She later became director of her mother's business, the Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. The studio was renamed in May 1995 to Reign Dance Productions. Both studios are located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Through her studios, Miller taught thousands of students, some of whom have gone on to perform in Broadway shows. In December 2010, Abby Lee Miller filed for bankruptcy and owed more than $400,000 in taxes shortly before Dance Moms premiered.
Dance Moms is an American reality television series that debuted on Lifetime on July 13, 2011. Created by Collins Avenue Productions, the show follows the early training and careers of children in dance and show business under the tutelage of Abby Lee Miller, as well as the interactions of Miller and the dancers with their sometimes bickering mothers. Set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Los Angeles, California, the show is primarily filmed at the Abby Lee Dance Company studios. Dance Moms began its sixth season in 2016.
Primarily set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and, since 2015 in Los Angeles, Dance Moms follows the Abby Lee Dance Company's Junior Elite Competition Team of mostly preteen girls as they travel week-to-week to various dance competitions, winning awards and preparing for Nationals, while at the same time being prepared by Abby Lee Miller to be "professional, employable working dancers." The series depicts the doting mothers as rivals of each other on behalf of their own daughters, often arguing with Miller and each other, and sometimes closing ranks against rival teams. Dance performances are creatively conceptualized by Miller and her dance instructors, with input from the show's producers, while choreography is done by Miller, her staff, and occasionally a guest choreographer. Various rival dance teams spur the team's competitiveness. The show's success is often credited to the drama and conflict among Miller and the moms, along with the weekly dances and the close relationships among the girls as viewers watch them grow up and improve their skills.
Abby Miller is an American actress best known for her recurring role as Ellen May on the FX series Justified.
She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and studied theater in London before moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.
Prior to her work on television, Miller toured throughout the western United States as one half of the folk pop band Jen & Abby. In Los Angeles, the band found a home at the Hotel Café.

Speaking to Inside Edition, Miller broke down in tears as she talked about the prospect of going to prison. "The fear of the unknown is great," she said. The dance instructor was indicted on 20 counts of fraud after she failed to report $755,000 in income from her show and other assets. Season eight of Dance Moms is in the works, despite her conviction.
