Information and communications technology (ICT) is often used as an extended synonym for information technology (IT). It is a more extensive term (i.e. more broad in scope) that stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals), computers as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage, and audio-visual systems, which enable users to access, store, transmit, and manipulate information.
The term ICT is also used to refer to the convergence of audio-visual and telephone networks with computer networks through a single cabling or link system. There are large economic incentives (huge cost savings due to elimination of the telephone network) to merge the telephone network with the computer network system using a single unified system of cabling, signal distribution and management.
However, ICT has no universal definition, as "the concepts, methods and applications involved in ICT are constantly evolving on an almost daily basis." The broadness of ICT covers any product that will store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive information electronically in a digital form, e.g. personal computers, digital television, email, robots. For clarity, Zuppo provided an ICT hierarchy where the all levels of the hierarchy "contain some degree of commonality in that they are related to technologies that facilitate the transfer of information and various types of electronically mediated communications.".
The future is the time after the present.

A perspective is presented on how communications technology has evolved over the last century and has resulted in the digital revolution and information explosion affecting bio-communications today. This effects includes three sections: historical perspective, current situation, and future direction. The relationship between information technology and societal factors impacting on higher education, health care, and the field of bio-communications (social / Societal relationships) visualized and made for understanding and coping with this change.
Information and communications technologies (ICTs) offer increased potential for advancing progress towards economic and social development objectives. The worldwide spread of mobile telephony and communication systems, the growth of Internet networks and widespread use of broadband infrastructure have an impact on international production and trade. But benefits from new ICTs cannot be taken for granted. Making ICT work for development requires more than expanding access to affordable infrastructure. In order to foster productive and inclusive use of ICTs, Governments need to create legal, institutional and policy frameworks and generate the necessary skills in government, business and civil society. UNCTAD assists governments of developing and transition economies towards their increase...

By the year 2022, Fifth Generation (5G) wireless networks are expected to provide a new paradigm over the existing networks. The targets for 5G include: 10,000 times increase in traffic data, 10-100 times more devices, low latency in the order of 1msec, more uniform coverage providing a minimum of 1Gbps for every user, flexible operation in different radio access technologies, reliable end-to-end performance, low cost and energy efficient design. As in 5G networks millions more base stations are expected to serve the users, one of the significant design considerations is achieving better performance with smart energy consumption. In this presentation, firstly we present an overview of the existing scenario on energy consumption in base stations. Next, we introduce energy-efficient research...
