Show comments

Laurie Daley has yet to make a definitive call on whether he seeks to remain in charge of the Blues, but gave the biggest hint yet this series will be his last at the helm.

Daley, whenever quizzed about his future as NSW coach, has had a ready-made response: "I know what I'm doing."

Queensland take series in decisive fashion

Queensland made it 11 wins out of the last 12 series to send Johnathan Thurston out a winner.

He repeated the manta again at the post-match press conference, seemingly a nod towards a decision to stand down.

Daley has been at the helm for the past five seasons. His record stands at one series win, four losses. It could be argued that, given the quality of the opposition and the lack of coaching alternatives, he deserves continue in the role.

Is Daley ready for the hand-wringing that comes with another series loss?

"100 per cent," he said.

"I'm proud of these guys, I'm grateful they tried so hard.

"We can play a little bit better but in the washup, we're 12 months away the next game. It will hurt for 12 months."

Asked about his future, Daley offered a dead bat.

"I think I've always been clear about what I'm going to do," he said.

Which is?

"No (comment). Certainly it's not about me, it's about the team. It's all about getting them trying to perform well."

Will the result influence your decision?

"No."

It was another series loss that offered more questions than answers. However, the fact is that Queensland have 11 of the past 12 series and, with such results, change is inevitable.

Daley and Mitchell Pearce are likely to be the scapegoats. Daley has won just one series. Pearce none.

He played behind a beaten forward pack but, it is getting harder to make excuses for him at this level. The Roosters playmaker remains unable to bring sublime club form into the interstate arena.

"I thought he was good. I thought he contributed, did his job," Daley said of Pearce.

"Again, people will have their own opinions on Mitch but he did his job."

While Daley said the bucked stopped with the coaching staff, captain Boyd Cordner said: "We let ourselves individually down. Speaking on behalf of the boys I'm proud of what we've done and the effort we showed.

"It was execution in the end .. we let ourselves down in our own individual standards."
