San Luis, the Spanish name for Saint Louis, is a common toponym in parts of the world where that language is or was spoken. It may refer to:
San Luis Obispo (/sæn ˌluːəs əˈbɪspoʊ/, /sɑːn luːˌiːs əˈbɪspoʊ/; Spanish for St. Louis, the Bishop [of Toulouse]) is a city in the U.S. state of California, located roughly midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco on the Central Coast.
The population was 45,119 at the 2010 census. The population of San Luis Obispo County was 269,637 in 2010.
Founded in 1772 by Spanish Franciscan Junípero Serra, San Luis Obispo is one of California's oldest communities. Serra's original mission was named for the 13th Century saint and bishop Louis of Toulouse.
The city, locally referred to as San Luis, SLO, or SLO Town (as its county is also referred to as SLO) is the county seat of San Luis Obispo County and is adjacent to California Polytechnic State University.
The earliest human inhabitants of the local area were the Chumash people. One of the earliest villages lies south of San Luis Obispo and reflects the landscape of the early Holocene when estuaries came farther inland. The Chumash people used marine resources of the inlets and bays along the Central Coast and inhabited a network of villages, including sites at Los Osos and Morro Creek.
Luis (and its variant forms) is the Spanish, Portuguese, Galician, Aragonese form of the Germanic given name Hludowig and Chlodovech (modern German Ludwig). The Germanic name is composed of the words for "fame" (hlūd) and "warrior" (wīg) which may be translated to famous warrior or "famous in battle".

The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The New York Times (sometimes abbreviated to NYT) is an American daily newspaper, founded and continuously published in New York City since September 18, 1851, by the New York Times Company. It has won 117 Pulitzer Prizes, more than any other news organization.
The paper's print version has the second-largest circulation, behind The Wall Street Journal, and the largest circulation among the metropolitan newspapers in the United States. It is ranked 39th in the world by circulation. Following industry trends, its weekday circulation has fallen to fewer than one million daily since 1990. Nicknamed for years as "The Gray Lady", The New York Times has long been regarded within the industry as a national "newspaper of record". It is owned by The New York Times Company. Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr. – whose family (Ochs-Sulzberger) has controlled the paper for five generations, since 1896 – is both the paper's publisher and the company's chairman. Its international version, formerly the International Herald Tribune, is now called the International New York Times.

I decided to conduct a First Amendment Audit of the California Army National Guard base at Camp San Luis Obispo. The response I got from the National Guardsmen for my filming the base was in my opinion completely unacceptable. It appears as though those who swore to defend and uphold the constitution seem very keen on attempting to violate the rights of citizens who chose to exercise their constitutional rights. But hey, what can you expect from a group of weekend warriors.
In this edition of Life On The Beat With Nasty Nathanial I find myself at the San Luis Obispo County Courthouse. I've been wanting to audit this place for awhile now being that it has a great street view of the sally port where inmate transport vans come in and out of the courthouse. Of course SLO County Sheriff's Deputies weren't too thrilled with my filming them and their vehicles.

In continuation of my railfanning trip to the central coast, I made my way south from Paso Robles to San Luis Obispo, staying the night and filming the next day. I was rather surprised at how quiet and peaceful San Luis Obispo was considering the size of the city, which also had a very prominent small town feeling. The city of San Luis Obispo serves as the northern most terminus for the Pacific Surfliner and also receives service from Amtrak's Coast Starlight. SLO also serves as a crew change point for all Amtrak trains, both the Surfliner and Coast Starlight. This station however only sees two round trip Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains (four total) and two daily scheduled Coast Starlight trains, with the occasional Union Pacific freight movements along the Coast Subdivision, all of which ...

On the night of November 12, 1998, in San Luis Obispo, California, college student Rachel Newhouse was walking home alone when a stranger appeared wearing a skull-face Halloween mask. Beating her unconscious with his fists, the attacker threw her into his pick-up truck, took her to his secluded canyon cabin and raped her – still wearing the mask. Newhouse was hog-tied and left to strangle to death. On March 11, 1999, in the same town, a stalker shadowing college student, Aundria Crawford, 20, broke into her apartment, pummeled her into insensibility, and carried her away in his truck to his canyon lair. There, she was raped, tortured, and murdered. Parole officer David Zaragoza paid a visit to Rex Allan Krebs, 33, a violent serial rapist who served ten years of a twenty-year sentence in ...
In this edition of Life On The Beat With Nasty Nathanial a friend and I decide to have a look at the California Men's Colony, a state prison located in San Luis Obispo, California. Unlike at Valley State Prison, where me and a fellow auditor were harassed by correctional officers who accused us of violating "Prison Law", the staff here seemed to have no problem with us filming the institution from the road. I guess "Prison Law" doesn't apply at CMC.

My alma mater, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, asked me to speak to the portfolio class (a mix of sophomore and senior students). Well she left me here halfway
Between the bright lights of Los Angeles
And the tawdry nights of San Jose
With Ecstacy and Ivory Wave
And a backpack full of Captain Jack
To take me to an early grave
And I've never been to paradise
Standing on this corner by myself
You don't have to tell me twice
And the world's not gonna end
If I could just pretend
That here's a place to go
San Luis Obispo
And the streets may look the same
Of any town by any name
Gonna find my afterglow
San Luis Obispo
The difference between delight
And loneliness could be a one way flight
In these San Luis Obispo nights
Where no one seems to mind
If you string your words together with
Kool cigarettes and sparkling wine
Keep the conversation light
Wait until the girls get under-dressed
And then the talk gets less polite
And I could stay here all my days
But will I spend my life deciding if
Happiness is just a phase
And I hope that I'm not wrong
Maybe here's where I belong
Every winter free of snow
San Luis Obispo
But if she's coming back again
I would flee but until then
Every day my love it grows
San Luis Obispo
The difference between delight
And loneliness is never black or white
In these San Luis Obispo nights
Sorry you misunderstood
This kid with his intentions good
When all I had was two feet left to stand
And if you're coming back through town
Put your ear down to the ground
Cause this boy's voice has changed into a man's
And I hope that I'm not wrong
Baby here's where I belong
Every winter free of snow
San Luis Obispo
But if she's coming back again
I would flee but until then
Every day my love it grows
San Luis Obispo
The difference between delight
And loneliness could be a one way flight
