Death Valley is a desert valley located in Eastern California. It is the lowest, driest, and hottest area in North America.
Death Valley's Badwater Basin is the point of the lowest elevation in North America, at 282 feet (86 m) below sea level. This point is 84.6 miles (136.2 km) east-southeast of Mount Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States with an elevation of 14,505 feet (4,421 m). Death Valley's Furnace Creek holds the record for the highest reliably recorded air temperature in the world, 134 °F (56.7 °C) on July 10, 1913. This has been contested by other weather experts.
Located near the border of California and Nevada, in the Great Basin, east of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Death Valley constitutes much of Death Valley National Park and is the principal feature of the Mojave and Colorado Deserts Biosphere Reserve. It is located mostly in Inyo County, California. It runs from north to south between the Amargosa Range on the east and the Panamint Range on the west; the Sylvania Mountains and the Owlshead Mountains form its northern and southern boundaries, respectively. It has an area of about 3,000 sq mi (7,800 km2). The highest point in Death Valley itself is Telescope Peak in the Panamint Range, which has an elevation of 11,043 feet (3,366 m).
The Panamint Range is a short rugged fault-block mountain range on the northern edge of the Mojave Desert, in Death Valley National Park, Inyo County, California, United States.
The range runs north-south for approximately 100 miles (160 km) through Inyo County, forming the western wall of Death Valley and separating it from the Panamint Valley to the west. The range is part of the Basin and Range Province, at the western end of the Great Basin.
The highest peak in the range is Telescope Peak with an elevation of 11,049 feet (3,368 m).
Both Mount Whitney and Badwater Basin in Death Valley are visible from some points on the Panamint Range, making it the only location where one can simultaneously see both the highest and lowest points in the contiguous United States.
The historic mining community of Ballarat, now a ghost town, is on the western side of the Panamint Range. The Wildrose Charcoal Kilns ruins are near Wildrose Canyon in the northern area.
Death Valley National Park is a national park in the U.S. states of California and Nevada that is located east of the Sierra Nevada, occupying an interface zone between the arid Great Basin and Mojave deserts in the United States. The park protects the northwest corner of the Mojave Desert and contains a diverse desert environment of salt-flats, sand dunes, badlands, valleys, canyons, and mountains. It is the largest national park in the lower 48 states and has been declared an International Biosphere Reserve. Approximately 95% of the park is a designated wilderness area. It is the hottest and driest of the national parks in the United States. The second-lowest point in the Western Hemisphere is in Badwater Basin, which is 282 feet (86 m) below sea level. The park is home to many species of plants and animals that have adapted to this harsh desert environment. Some examples include creosote bush, bighorn sheep, coyote, and the Death Valley pupfish, a survivor of much wetter times.
A national park is a park in use for conservation purposes. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined "National Park" as its Category II type of protected areas.
While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. The first area to use "national park" in its creation legislation was the US's Mackinac Island, in 1875. Australia's Royal National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result, Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence.
Inyo County is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 18,546. The county seat is Independence.
Inyo County is located on the east side of the Sierra Nevada and southeast of Yosemite National Park in Central California. It contains the Owens River Valley; it is flanked to the west by the Sierra Mountains and to the east by the White Mountains and the Inyo Mountains.
Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the Contiguous United States, is on Inyo County's western border (with Tulare County). The Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park, the lowest place in North America, is in eastern Inyo County. The two points are not visible from each other, but both can be observed from the Panamint Range on the west side of Death Valley, above the Panamint Valley.
Present day Inyo county has been the historic homeland for thousands of years of the Mono tribe, Coso people, Timbisha, and Kawaiisu Native Americans. They spoke the Timbisha language and the Mono language with Mono traditional narratives. The descendants of these ancestors continue to live in their traditional homelands in the Owens River Valley and in Death Valley National Park.

It is also known by the official Board of Geographic Names as Panamint. Panamint was a boom town founded after silver and copper were found there in 1872. By 1874, the town had a population of about 2,000. Its main street was one mile long. Panamint had its own newspaper, the Panamint News. Silver was the principal product mined in the area. The town is located about three miles northwest of Sentinel Peak. The elevation of this location is identified as being 6,280'.

Travel video about destination Death Valley. It is particularly during the hot summer months that Death Valley does full justice to its name. On some days the temperatures can reach up to forty-five degrees Celsius in the shade! Geographically Death Valley is a truly remarkable national park and Badwater is the deepest point in the entire western hemisphere. The shiny blue sky and impressive Sierra Nevada Mountain Range are two magnificent and colourful features of California's seemingly lifeless desert. The area around Badwater is studded with salt crystals. Its salt lake almost completely dries out during the summer due to the scorching heat. The bottom of the valley and the rocky slopes of the Panamint Mountains heat up the subsoil where temperatures of up to ninety degrees are quite com...

Travel video about nature park Death Valley in the USA. Situated in the USA, Death Valley derived its name during the gold rush that took place between 1848 and 1849, a time when hordes of pioneers journeyed to the west full of hope but where, in the seemingly never ending and merciless hot desert valleys, many frequently lost their cattle, their wagons and some even lost their lives. During the summer months the temperatures in Death Valley often exceed 45 degrees Celcius.A closer look confirms that Death Valley is an arid, desolate desert valley in which any visit should be treated with respect as the severe, unforgiving heat can prove fatal to those who travel unprepared. Badwater is the deepest point in the western hemisphere and is located 86 metres below sea level. The area that cont...

Nick and I got up at 2am on Saturday morning to drive to the desert and witness the super bloom in Death Valley! Neither of us had been there before and blooms like this only happen about once a decade! It was absolutely beautiful and unlike any other National Park we've visited. I really enjoyed the Badwater Basin Salt Flats. They cover over 200 square miles and are the lowest point in North America! We only camped there for one night, which was good, because it ended up raining on Sunday night. We had to sleep in the car on Saturday night because the wind broke one of our tent poles! It was definitely and adventure! :) Check out Nick's vlog of the trip! https://youtu.be/6LPPsj1vRms CARD SHOP------------------------------------------------------- Rad & Random Card Shop: https://goo.gl...
http://www.pausethemoment.com -- In March of 2010, my family and I flew out to Las Vegas, Nevada for a short vacation. Since we had been to Vegas in the past, we weren't really interested in seeing the same old sights and hotels along the strip. We decided to take a road trip out to Death Valley National Park and it was the best choice we could have ever made. We had the time of our lives out there, and we got to see and experience some amazing things along the way. This is my Death Valley Road Trip video, hope you enjoy it.
