Brenda is a feminine given name in the English language.
The origin of the name is uncertain, but it may be derived from a Scandinavian language, rather than a Celtic language like the similarly-spelt masculine given name Brendan. It is possible that Brenda may be derived in part from the Old Norse element brand, meaning "(flaming) sword".
Prior to the 20th century, Brenda was primarily used in Ireland and Scotland, later it became popular in England. Its use in the Gaelic-speaking countries is attributed to the similar, although likely etymologically unrelated, masculine name Brendan.
"Brenda" is used as a nickname for Queen Elizabeth II by the satirical magazine Private Eye. The comedian Stanley Baxter played the "Duchess of Brenda", a character loosely based on the Queen.
Singularity University is a California Benefit Corporation part university, part think-tank, part business-incubator located in Silicon Valley whose stated aim is to "educate, inspire and empower leaders to apply exponential technologies to address humanity’s grand challenges." It was founded in 2008 by Peter Diamandis and Ray Kurzweil in NASA Research Park, CA.
Singularity University began with an annual 10-week supplemental summer program and has since grown to an innovation pipeline with conference series, an array of classes, an incubation lab for startups and corporate teams, and a global alumni network.
Singularity University aims to develop a global network of innovation ecosystems alongside a coalition of entrepreneurs, business leaders, universities, government agencies and nonprofits. The institution taps into a community of scientists, thinkers, engineers, investors, business leaders, and public policy makers who explore the potential of advancing technologies to take on humanity’s challenges, such as water scarcity and energy consumption.
James Francis Cameron (born August 16, 1954) is a Canadian filmmaker, director, producer, screenwriter, inventor, engineer, philanthropist, and deep-sea explorer. He first found major success with the science fiction action film The Terminator (1984). He then became a popular Hollywood director and was hired to write and direct Aliens (1986); three years later he followed up with The Abyss (1989).
He found further critical acclaim for his use of special effects in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). After his film True Lies (1994) Cameron took on his biggest film at the time, Titanic (1997), which earned him Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Film Editing.
After Titanic, Cameron began a project that took almost 10 years to make: his science-fiction epic Avatar (2009), which was in particular a landmark for 3D technology, and for which he received nominations for the same three Academy Awards. In the time between making Titanic and Avatar, Cameron spent several years creating many documentary films (specifically underwater documentaries) and co-developed the digital 3D Fusion Camera System. Described by a biographer as part scientist and part artist, Cameron has also contributed to underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies. On March 26, 2012, Cameron reached the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean, in the Deepsea Challenger submersible. He is the first person to do this in a solo descent, and is only the third person to do so ever.

About Tina Malia Tina Malia is a visionary musical artist. Her sonic creations span folk, world, dream pop and sacred music genres. A prolific singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and sound engineer, Malia expresses her radiant inner landscape through song. Tina's mother, a renowned concert pianist and opera singer from South Korea, was the driving force in Tina's classical musical education. It was her father, however, who bought her a guitar when she turned 15 and encouraged her to follow her musical passions. "I remember first discovering many great women of folk music – Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Ani DiFranco, Alison Krauss. Listening to them was basically how I learned to play the guitar, and it's also when I starting writing my own songs," says Malia. With guitar and backpack i...

During the course of our lives, we sometimes get caught up in the here and now, losing sight of who we are and where we came from. The same is true for some companies and brands; they lose sight of their origin and purpose, putting them in a slump. This past Sunday, at 4 PM on 55KRC, Joey Reiman, author of The Story of Purpose: The Path to Creating a Brighter Brand, a Greater Company, and a Lasting Legacy joined us. He shared his views on why brands lose sight of their original purpose, some examples of brands who have lost their sense of purpose, and what those brands are doing to regain that purpose to be a brighter brand.
