“Where Donald Trump has employed subtext and dog whistles in the service of his anti-immigration agenda, Republican Rep. Steve King of Iowa doesn’t bother with such subtleties. Last summer, on live TV, he claimed that white people have contributed more to civilization than any other “sub-group” of people and said it is not “objectively true” that every culture is equal. Before that, he was perhaps best known for his flawed argument that for every DREAMer “who’s a valedictorian,” there are 100 undocumented immigrants with “calves the size of cantaloupes” from smuggling marijuana across the border. On Sunday, King went further, tweeting a cartoon praising the far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders, a fierce anti-immigrant and anti-Islam critic, and writing a message below: “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies.” Critics immediately seized on the post as an apparent endorsement of white nationalism, but King doubled down in an interview with CNN Monday morning, telling host Chris Cuomo, “Of course I meant exactly what I said.”
King didn’t seem to understand why Cuomo, and half the Internet, was apoplectic. “I have said the same thing as far as 10 years ago to the German people and to any population of people that is a declining population that isn’t willing to have enough babies to reproduce themselves,” King [said]. “And I have said to them, ‘You cannot rebuild your civilization with somebody else’s babies, you have to keep your birth rate up and teach your children your values, and in doing so then you can grow your population, you can strengthen your culture, you can strengthen your way of life.’”

This week at a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Congressional Black Caucus chairman Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) accused his colleague Rep. Steve King (R-IA) of “white privilege” during a heated exchange.
When King compared the violent death rate in El Salvador to the homicide rate in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Richmond expressed his displeasure.
Richmond said, “We’re going to lose all civility in this committee if he thinks it’s appropriate to compare New Orleans to Guatemala.”
Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) tried to calm the situation by saying, “The gentleman from Iowa has the right to make a statistical comparison between two locations.”
Richmond continued, “You are comparing the people in the location—that would be like me comparing him to somebody in the Klan. I don’t have the basis to do that.”
Richmond then raised his voice as he said, “I am not going to sit here and let him do that to the people I love, and the people I respect and—I live in New Orleans. If the gentleman persists on it, then let’s go in the back and have the conversation about New Orleans. But I am not going to sit here and do this. If it takes walking across over there, then I’m prepared to do that, too. But It’s not appropriate. It’s insensitive. And it’s nothing more than traditional white privilege of ‘let me criticize a minority city.’ Now take it how you want. I’m telling you how I feel.”
Goodlatte said Richmond is entitled to his feelings but so is King.
King said, “I would suggest that if the gentleman can’t participate in an open discussion on this, it might be better for one of us, that would be particularly you, the gentleman from Louisiana, to remove himself from the room if he can’t restrain himself.”
Goodlatte told King, “That remark is not appropriate.”
King resumed by saying, “I will go back to the data. I will not be intimidated by this kind of thing. It’s important that we look at data.”

Steve King
Steven Arnold "Steve" King (born May 28, 1949) is the U.S. representative for Iowa's 4th congressional district, serving in congress since 2003; the district is located in the northwestern part of the state and includes Sioux City. King is a member of the Republican Party.
Personal life, education, and business career
King was born on May 28, 1949, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Mildred Lila (née Culler), a homemaker, and Emmett A. King, a state police dispatcher. His father has Irish and German ancestry, and his mother has Welsh mixed with others going back to the colonial era. King has also stated that he is Latino, although it has since been established that he is not. King graduated in 1967 from Denison Community High School. He is married to Marilyn, with whom he has three children. Raised a Methodist, King attended his wife's Catholic church, converting 17 years after marrying her.
King attended Northwest Missouri State University from 1967 to 1970, and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity, majoring in math and biology. He did not graduate. Instead, he left before earning a degree to work in construction. In 1975, he founded King Construction, an earth moving company. King founded the Kiron Business Association in the 1980s. His involvement with the Iowa Land Improvement Contractors' Association led to regional and national offices in that organization and a growing interest in public policy.

Stephen or Steven /ˈstiːvən/ is a masculine first name, derived from the Greek name Στέφανος (Stéfanos), in turn from the Greek word "στέφανος", meaning "wreath, crown, honour, reward", literally "that which surrounds or encompasses". In ancient Greece, a wreath was given to the winner of a contest (from which the crown, symbol of rulers derived). The use of the noun was first recorded in Homer's Iliad. The name is significant to Christians: according to the Book of Acts in the New Testament, Saint Stephen was a deacon who was stoned to death and is regarded as the first Christian martyr. Seth Meyers
Seth Adam Meyers (born December 28, 1973) is an American comedian, writer, producer, television host, actor, and voice actor. He currently hosts Late Night with Seth Meyers, a late-night talk show that airs on NBC. Prior to that, he was a head writer for NBC's Saturday Night Live (2001–2014) and hosted its news parody segment Weekend Update.
He also hosted the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2014, starred in the animated Hulu series The Awesomes (2013–2015), appeared in Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008), and is the co-creator, co-writer, and executive producer of Documentary Now! (2015–present)
Early life
Meyers was born in Evanston, Illinois, and was raised in Okemos, Michigan from ages 4–10 and Bedford, New Hampshire after that. His mother, Hilary Claire (née Olson), was a French teacher, and his father, Laurence Meyers, Jr., worked in finance. His younger brother is actor Josh Meyers. His paternal grandfather was Jewish, and although Meyers has performed at several Jewish Community Centers, he does not consider himself Jewish. His other ancestry is Czech-Austrian (from his paternal grandmother), Swedish, English, and German. Meyers attended Edgewood Elementary in Okemos and later graduated from Manchester High School West in New Hampshire. He then attended and graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, where he became a member of the fraternity Phi Gamma Delta.

Late Night with Seth Meyers
Late Night with Seth Meyers is an American late-night talk show hosted by Seth Meyers on NBC. The show premiered on February 24, 2014 and is produced by Broadway Video and Universal Television. It is the fourth incarnation of NBC's long-running Late Night franchise. The show also stars bandleader Fred Armisen and the 8-G Band, the show's house band. Late Night is produced by former Saturday Night Live producer Mike Shoemaker and executive-produced by Lorne Michaels. The show records from Studio 8G at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.
The program airs Monday through Thursday nights at 12:37 a.m. ET/PT. The show opens with Meyers' topical monologue, which he delivers from his desk. The program also contains comedy bits, sketches, interviews with a myriad of guests, and occasionally a musical or comedy performance. The show attracts an average of 1.5 million viewers nightly.
Format
The show opens with Ron McClary proclaiming "From 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York, it's Late Night with Seth Meyers!" and announcing that night’s guests and The 8G Band with Fred Armisen, or guest musicians, including Jeremy Gara, Jon Theodore, Chad Smith, etc. Ron introduces Seth with "Ladies and gentlemen, Seth Meyers." Previously, the introduction to Seth was "And now here he is, Seth Meyers!". Meyers performs a monologue from his desk based around recent news, punctuating jokes with on-screen images and video. For the first year and a half of the program, Meyers performed a traditional stand-up monologue, before changing to a format he felt more comfortable in. His opening monologue has been described as reminiscent of his tenure hosting the Weekend Update segment of Saturday Night Live. The show's guests often include celebrities and actors, literary figures, people in fashion, artists, athletes, and politicians.

On Sunday, King went further, tweeting a cartoon praising the far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders, a fierce anti-immigrant and anti-Islam critic, and writing a message below: “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies.” Critics immediately seized on the post as an apparent endorsement of white nationalism, but King doubled down in an interview with CNN Monday morning, telling host Chris Cuomo, “Of course I meant exactly what I said.”
King didn’t seem to understand why Cuomo, and half the Internet, was apoplectic. “I have said the same thing as far as 10 years ago to the German people and to any population of people that is a declining population that isn’t willing to have enough babies to reproduce themselves,” King [said]. “And I have said to them, ‘You cannot rebuild your civilization with somebody else’s babies, you have to keep your birth rate up and teach your children your values, and in doing so then you can grow your population, you can strengthen your culture, you can strengthen your way of life.’”

This week at a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Congressional Black Caucus chairman Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) accused his colleague Rep. Steve King (R-IA) of “white privilege” during a heated exchange.
When King compared the violent death rate in El Salvador to the homicide rate in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Richmond expressed his displeasure.
Richmond said, “We’re going to lose all civility in this committee if he thinks it’s appropriate to compare New Orleans to Guatemala.”
Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) tried to calm the situation by saying, “The gentleman from Iowa has the right to make a statistical comparison between two locations.”
Richmond continued, “You are comparing the people in the location—that would be like me comparing him to somebody in the Klan. I don’t have the basis to do that.”
Richmond then raised his voice as he said, “I am not going to sit here and let him do that to the people I love, and the people I respect and—I live in New Orleans. If the gentleman persists on it, then let’s go in the back and have the conversation about New Orleans. But I am not going to sit here and do this. If it takes walking across over there, then I’m prepared to do that, too. But It’s not appropriate. It’s insensitive. And it’s nothing more than traditional white privilege of ‘let me criticize a minority city.’ Now take it how you want. I’m telling you how I feel.”
Goodlatte said Richmond is entitled to his feelings but so is King.
King said, “I would suggest that if the gentleman can’t participate in an open discussion on this, it might be better for one of us, that would be particularly you, the gentleman from Louisiana, to remove himself from the room if he can’t restrain himself.”
Goodlatte told King, “That remark is not appropriate.”
King resumed by saying, “I will go back to the data. I will not be intimidated by this kind of thing. It’s important that we look at data.”

King didn’t seem to understand why Cuomo, and half the Internet, was apoplectic. “I have said the same thing as far as 10 years ago to the German people and to any population of people that is a declining population that isn’t willing to have enough babies to reproduce themselves,” King [said]. “And I have said to them, ‘You cannot rebuild your civilization with somebody else’s babies, you have to keep your birth rate up and teach your children your values, and in doing so then you can grow your population, you can strengthen your culture, you can strengthen your way of life.’”

This week at a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Congressional Black Caucus chairman Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) accused his colleague Rep. Steve King (R-IA) of “white privilege” during a heated exchange.
When King compared the violent death rate in El Salvador to the homicide rate in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Richmond expressed his displeasure.
Richmond said, “We’re going to lose all civility in this committee if he thinks it’s appropriate to compare New Orleans to Guatemala.”
Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) tried to calm the situation by saying, “The gentleman from Iowa has the right to make a statistical comparison between two locations.”
Richmond continued, “You are comparing the people in the location—that would be like me comparing him to somebody in the Klan. I don’t have the basis to do that.”
Richmond then raised his voice as he said, “I am not going to sit here and let him do that to the people I love, and the people I respect and—I live in New Orleans. If the gentleman persists on it, then let’s go in the back and have the conversation about New Orleans. But I am not going to sit here and do this. If it takes walking across over there, then I’m prepared to do that, too. But It’s not appropriate. It’s insensitive. And it’s nothing more than traditional white privilege of ‘let me criticize a minority city.’ Now take it how you want. I’m telling you how I feel.”
Goodlatte said Richmond is entitled to his feelings but so is King.
King said, “I would suggest that if the gentleman can’t participate in an open discussion on this, it might be better for one of us, that would be particularly you, the gentleman from Louisiana, to remove himself from the room if he can’t restrain himself.”
Goodlatte told King, “That remark is not appropriate.”
King resumed by saying, “I will go back to the data. I will not be intimidated by this kind of thing. It’s important that we look at data.”

The majority of the story occurs in the office of Dr. Harper, a psychiatrist, where a man named Lester Billings talks to the doctor about the "murders" of his three young children. Billings seems paranoid and possibly schizophrenic as he describes the circumstances of the death of his children. His first two children died mysteriously of apparently unrelated causes (diagnosed as crib death and convulsions, respectively) when left alone in their bedrooms. The only commonalities were that the children cried "Boogeyman!" before being left alone, and the closet door was open slightly after finding their corpses, even though Billings was certain the door was shut.
We're told that Billings' wife Rita became pregnant approximately a year after their second child's death, at which time the family was living in a different house far away from the location of the original deaths. Their first year in the new house was without incident, though Billing was still uneasy, and let his son sleep in the master bedroom with him and his wife. In the second year, it became apparent that whatever had killed the first two children had managed to track down Billings and his family, lingering in the closets and slithering around the house at night. Not long after, Rita left to care for her mother who had become ill, and Billings and his son were left alone in the house.
Feeling the malevolent presence growing bolder in his wife's absence, Billings panics, and moves his son to a separate bedroom in the hope that the thing haunting him will go for the weaker prey. That night, the child cries "Boogeyman" while being put to bed, and an hour later, he begins to scream. Billings' love for his son briefly overcomes his terror, and he runs into his son's room to find an inhuman creature attacking the boy. Billings, broken by fear, flees to a local 24-hour diner. He returns home at dawn to find the boy on the floor with a broken neck and the closet door slightly open. Billings lies to the police, convincing them that the death must have been accidental from the boy trying to climb out of his crib.
As Billings finishes his story and starts to leave, Harper recommends he make an appointment with the nurse for further discussion. When he gets to the lobby, the nurse is gone, and Billings returns to the psychiatrist's office finding it empty as well, with the closet door just slightly open. Billings hears a voice from the closet as the door swings open, and he finds himself face to face with the Boogeyman, as it casts off the disguise it had been wearing when it posed as Doctor Harper.

Billings lies to the police, convincing them that the death must have been accidental from the boy trying to climb out of his crib.
As Billings finishes his story and starts to leave, Harper recommends he make an appointment with the nurse for further discussion. When he gets to the lobby, the nurse is gone, and Billings returns to the psychiatrist's office finding it empty as well, with the closet door just slightly open. Billings hears a voice from the closet as the door swings open, and he finds himself face to face with the Boogeyman, as it casts off the disguise it had been wearing when it posed as Doctor Harper.
