Liberia i/laɪˈbɪəriə/, officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country on the West African coast. Liberia means "Land of the Free" in Latin. It is bordered by Sierra Leone to its west, Guinea to its north and Ivory Coast to its east. It covers an area of 111,369 square kilometres (43,000 sq mi) and is home to 4,503,000 people.English is the official language and over 20 indigenous languages are spoken, representing the numerous tribes who make up more than 95% of the population.
Forests on the coastline are composed mostly of salt-tolerant mangrove trees, while the more sparsely populated inland has forests opening onto a plateau of drier grasslands. The climate is equatorial, with significant rainfall during the May–October rainy season and harsh harmattan winds the remainder of the year. Liberia possesses about forty percent of the remaining Upper Guinean rainforest. It was an important producer of rubber in the early 20th century.

After years of devastating civil war and political upheaval, Liberia is taking steps to reform its economy. Supported by investment climate teams of the World Bank Group since 2006, the government has established a multi-faceted investment climate program aimed at facilitating business creation and operation.
According to the Embassy and Consulates section, Liberia is open for business with great opportunities for investors. Self-sufficiency in food production is key to Liberia’s economic recovery as agriculture continues to be the dominant sector in the Liberian economy, accounting for more than half the GDP and about 70% employment.
Amidst the human tragedy of the Ebola epidemic, Liberia is also counting the cost to it's economy. GDP growth forecasts were cut to the bone, and unemployment surged during the 15 month long epidemic. While in Liberia, Katerina Vittozzi met one business woman who has managed to pull-through the worst Ebola outbreak on record.
Liberia's economy was hard hit during the Ebola epidemic with the positive growth forecasts slashed by more than half. Local and international trade stuttered. Now as cases are subsiding, companies both big and small are doing what they can to recover. CCTV's Katerina Vittozzi reports
Liberia government has warned that the ebola outbreak will badly damage the country's economy. Many gains made since the end of the civil war in 2003 could be reversed. It has been forced to cut its growth forecasts and officials fears that food prices will rise as farm workers stay home to avoid infection. CCTV's Katerina Vittozzi filed this report

Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has defended her administration for criticism that it has not delivered adequate benefits for its citizens. President Sirleaf says efforts to rebuild the country's economy post civil war were knocked off track by the Ebola epidemic in late 2013. Liberia is one of the world's poorest and least developed countries. The nation is seeking to fund its recovery by attracting investment in its rich natural resources, which include vast iron ore deposits and offshore oil deposits.

Liberia is endowed with lots of forest and mineral resources. The exploitation of these resources, for many decades, has not had adequate beneficial impact on the national economy or the livelihood of Liberians, but has led to deprivations and conflict due largely to the lack of transparency and accountability in the operations and regulation of logging, mining, oil and related companies. Generating adequate revenue from the extractive sector was a misery due to corruption. In 2009, the government and people of Liberia recognize the potential positive contribution that forest and mineral resources can make to economic and social development of the Country, and realized these potentials through improved resource governance that encompasses and fully implements the Principles and Criteria o...

Six British health workers went out to Liberia to see what life was like for their African colleagues. In a country recovering from civil war, they met doctors, nurses and midwives doing everything they could to save children's lives. They saw shortages of water, electricity and basic medicine. They realised the struggles Liberian health workers face and became inspired to campaign for Save the Children.
As of 22 October 2014, a delegation of 53 Cuban health workers arrived in Liberia to help fight the Ebola outbreak. The Cuban team consists of nurses, doctors, epidemiologists and intensive care specialists. Having received an initial Ebola training in Cuba, all team members received a second training in Liberia on how to work in an Ebola treatment unit. Being one of the first foreign medical teams to respond to the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, the Cuban delegation will stay in the country for 6 months. They will work in shifts in smaller teams mainly in the newly opened Ebola treatment unit located at the former Ministry of Defence compound in Monrovia.
This film provides an inside look at Liberia's healthcare system, which continues to struggle to rebuild itself nine years after the conclusion of a civil war.
One key reason Ebola has spread so quickly is that local health services can't cope with its rapid progression. Many public hospitals in Liberia have closed because staff and patients fear they'll be infected if they go there. CCTV America's Katerina Vittozzi reports from Monrovia.
After 20 years of emergency aid, Médecins Sans Frontières reduces activities in Liberia, handing its hospital services over to the Liberian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare - a sign of the health systems progress just seven years after the end of 14 years of brutal civil war. As Liberia reconstructs and develops, many challenges lie ahead. Here the children of Liberia express worries for healthcare and share hopes for the future.

When you hear the named “Libya” what comes to mind is the North African Arab Republic of Libya. But there is another Libya that lies deep in the Central Western forest of Liberia. Camp Libya as it is affectionately called is located between Bong and Gbapolu Counties; two Liberia fifteen Counties, and this where people are risking their lives to mine diamond. Liberian Journalist Moses Garzeawu recently took a trip to Camp Libya, referred to as the City in the forest, which has a lot of Challenges though it is producing one of the world’s most precious minerals, Diamond.

David Reading, chief executive of Aureus Mining (LON:AUE), says the fact Liberia has been declared Ebola-free by the World Health Organisation (WHO) is the key headline for the company. It comes as the company revealed the Leopard Rock and Ndablama deposits have been included within the mining licence for Bea Mountain in the West African nation. Reading adds that he hopes the company does not rush into raising cash, reiterating the strategy to reach production and generate revenues. He adds that the company is currently only worth about half the value of its New Liberty mine, which is eyeing production at the end of the month.

Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
In aeterna
I am the day, soon to be born
I am the light before the morning
[Chorus]
I am the alpha and omega
The night and day, the first and last
Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
