Thredbo landslide survivor loses second wife to cancer

Stuart Diver lost his first wife in the Thredbo landslide in August 1997 and now he is grieving the loss of his second wife Rosanna, who died of breast cancer at the weekend.

The pair married in 2002 and continued to live and work at Thredbo, where for some time they owned and operated a B&B.;

Mr Diver credited Rosanna with helping him through the heartbreak of losing Sally, who was among 18 people who died in the landslide in 1997.

"With Rosanna, I found myself loving again," he said.

Rosanna was first diagnosed with advanced breast cancer just three weeks after she and Mr Diver married in the Snowy Mountains.

Her cancer treatment was successful, but the couple was told they would be unable to have children.

Despite the odds, their daughter Alessia was born in 2010.

Rosanna was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer three years later.

The McGrath Foundation paid tribute to Rosanna via Twitter on Tuesday: "Our thoughts are with Stuart Diver & family & friends of wife Rosanna after her passing from secondary breast cancer."

Mr Diver, the sole survivor of the Thredbo landslide, spent more than 65 hours trapped in debris and snow, before he was pulled to safety.

Three years ago, he became second in charge of the Thredbo Ski Resort, as operations manager.

His family is expected to release a statement on Tuesday.
