Aberystwyth (Mouth of the Ystwyth, /ˌæbəˈrɪstwɪθ/, Welsh: [abɛrˈəstʊɨθ]) is a historic market town, administrative centre and holiday resort within Ceredigion, West Wales. Often colloquially known as Aber, it is located near the confluence of the rivers Ystwyth and Rheidol.
Since the late 19th century, Aberystwyth has also been a major Welsh educational centre, with the establishment of a university college there in 1872. At the 2001 census, the town's population was 15,935, reducing to 13,040 at the 2011 Census. During nine months of the year, there is an influx of students—to a total number of 10,400 as of September 2012. Including the suburbs of Llanbadarn Fawr the population is 16,420.
The town is situated near the confluence of the rivers Ystwyth and Rheidol, on the west coast of Wales. Although the name may seem to suggest otherwise, only the River Rheidol passes through the town; following the reconstruction of the harbour, the River Ystwyth skirts the town.

Philip Sayce is a Welsh guitarist, singer and songwriter, now residing in Canada.
Sayce was born in Aberystwyth, his family moved to Canada when he was two years old, and he grew up in Toronto. His parents, Kenneth and Sheila, listened to music by Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder and Dire Straits, amongst others. His parents' love of music inspired his love for the guitar, and he also played the piano and trombone for over 10 years. He was fifteen years old when he played in his first band. Sayce and his best friend, drummer Cassius Pereira, played in bands together throughout high school, holding band practice in their basements. Sayce's style is influenced by Jimi Hendrix, and Stevie Ray Vaughan; whose death in August 1990 affected the young guitarist.
Sayce began playing in Toronto clubs at the age of sixteen. He quickly became a regular fixture on Toronto’s bar-scene. Some of the clubs Sayce frequented were Grossman's Tavern, The Silver Dollar, Blues on Bellair, The Horseshoe Tavern, and Albert's Hall in Toronto, known for their jam sessions with artists such as Robbie Robertson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bob Dylan and Jeff Healey. His other musical influences include B.B. King, Albert King, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, and Robert Cray. Sayce joined Healey's band in 1997 and toured the world for three and a half years, playing such places as Baden Baden, Germany, Brazil, Finland and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

During the winter of 2013 / 2014 a series of storms lashed Aberystwyth seafront with huge waves causing massive damage.[ To use this video in a commercial player or broadcast, please email licensing@storyful.com ]
Hundreds of Syrian refugees have arrived in locations across the UK, more will follow in the coming months and years. They face new issues and challenges as they try to adapt to a British Way of life. Our Home Affairs Correspondent Andy Davies reports from Aberystwyth.
One of the final beatings that Aberystwyth took on the 6th of January 2014 during the Hercules storm. It was epic to experience the power of the ocean on Big Monday, but sad to watch the seafront being torn apart. A collection of time lapse videos taken in the hills above Aberystwyth, Wales.
This is a video of Aberystwyth beach and promenade shot with my Canon G12 in late August 2011. Aberystwyth is a beautiful town in mid-Wales. Well worth a trip there. UPDATE: I replaced the video with one I post-processed on After Effects CS5.5 including image stabilisation to remove the windy jitters and some colour and sharpness tweaking. Enjoy!

It wasn't really a day for video, with horizontal rain, heavy wind and record levels, but we got a bit of footage and it would be a shame not to share. The main shot is from the Ystwyth upstream of its confluence with the Diliw, followed by a shaky shot of the crux move on the run, finishing with one shot of the first rapid on the normal section that was paddleable (the first actual rapid finished by flowing into a bridge with no gap for a paddler to get under!!!). www.letsgetwet.co.uk
Travel Wales | 10 Best Places to Visit in Wales Wales shares a great deal of history with the rest of Great Britain, but the rugged beauty of its landscapes and the open nature of its inhabitants make it a distinctly unique travel destination. For first-time visitors, the most obvious difference between Wales and the other lands in the United Kingdom is the tongue-twisting Welsh language. While everyone speaks English, part of the fun of visiting Wales is learning a few phrases of one of the oldest languages in Europe. Besides its Celtic culture, the country is also famous for the large number of imposing castles. Wales’s scenic mountains, valleys and coastlines are just as enchanting, and no visit to Wales is complete without a long tramp through one of its stunning national parks. An ov...

The Aberystwyth Cliff Railway was opened the 1st August 1896 and initially operated by a water balance system until electrification in 1921. It was the longest funicular railway in the UK but lost this title to the Cairngorm Mountain Railway in Scotland in 2001. The Aberystwyth Cliff Railway is now content with the title of longest cliff railway, 778 feet (237 metres), which is certainly a honourable title as seaside resorts and towns of the United Kingdom have many and varied examples of this type of railway. This design is the work of George Croydon Marks, raised to the peerage as Baron Marks of Woolwich, ( a man well worth looking up ! ), who designed several interesting projects of funicular construction during his distinguished engineering and political career. The construction of thi...

Jesus, lover of my soul,
Let me to thy bosom fly,
While the gathering waters roll,
While the tempest still is high;
Hide me, O my Saviour, hide,
Till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide,
O receive my soul at last!
Noddfa arall nid oes un
Wrthyt glyn fy enaid gwan:
Paid am gadael, bydd dy Hun
Imi'n gysur ac yn rhan:
Ti yw Gwrthrych mawr fy ffydd,
Ti yw 'nghymorth, neb ond Ti;
Cudd fy mhen digysgod, cudd
Odan nawdd dy adain Di.
Plenteous grace with thee is found,
Grace to cleanse from every sin;
Let the healing streams abound,
Make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art;
Freely let me take of thee;
Spring thou up within my heart,
Rise to all eternity.
