Early music is music, especially Western art music, composed prior to the Classical era. The term generally comprises Medieval music (500–1400) and Renaissance music (1400–1600), but can also include Baroque music (1600–1760), and, according to some authorities such as Kennedy (who excludes Baroque),Ancient music (before 500 AD). According to the UK's National Centre for Early Music, the term "early music" refers to both a repertory (European music written between 1250 and 1750 embracing Medieval, Renaissance and the Baroque) – and a historically informed approach to the performance of that music. However, today this term has come to include "any music for which a historically appropriate style of performance must be reconstructed on the basis of surviving scores, treatises, instruments and other contemporary evidence."
According to Margaret Bent, "Renaissance notation is under-prescriptive by our standards; when translated into modern form it acquires a prescriptive weight that overspecifies and distorts its original openness. Accidentals … may or may not have been notated, but what modern notation requires would then have been perfectly apparent without notation to a singer versed in counterpoint".
Sebastian Knüpfer (6 September 1633 – 10 October 1676) was a German composer. He was the cantor of the Thomanerchor in Leipzig from 1657 to 1676, and director of the city’s music.
Most of the biographical information about Knüpfer comes from a published obituary. He was born in Asch now Aš, Czech Republic), and was first taught music by his father, a Kantor and organist. He also studied regularly with an unidentified tutor living near Asch, from whom he gained a solid grounding in, and lasting love for, a number of scholastic disciplines. At the age of 13 he entered the Gymnasium Poeticum at Regensburg and remained there for eight years. During this unusually long period he became well versed in the city's musical traditions (such as the works of Andreas Raselius), studied the organ, perhaps with Augustin Gradenthaler, and mastered a number of humanistic subjects, especially the poetic arts and philology. His gifts as a student were supported by scholarships from the city of Regensburg, and he was commended by influential members of the staff of the Gymnasium and the city council, some of the latter providing him with favourable testimonials when he moved to Leipzig in 1654. It is not known why he went there, but in view of his lifelong desire to improve his mind, it was possibly because he planned to enter the university. He did not, however, do so.
Music is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is sound and silence. The common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics (loudness and softness), and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture (which are sometimes termed the "color" of a musical sound). Different styles or types of music may emphasize, de-emphasize or omit some of these elements. Music is performed with a vast range of instruments and with vocal techniques ranging from singing to rapping, and there are solely instrumental pieces, solely vocal pieces and pieces that combine singing and instruments. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike; "art of the Muses"). In its most general form, the activities describing music as an art form include the production of works of music (songs, tunes, symphonies, and so on), the criticism of music, the study of the history of music, and the aesthetic examination of music. Ancient Greek and Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound."
Early may refer to:
A music festival is a festival oriented towards music that is sometimes presented with a theme such as musical genre, nationality or locality of musicians, or holiday. They are commonly held outdoors, and are often inclusive of other attractions such as food and merchandise vending, performance art, and social activities. Many festivals are annual, or repeat at some other interval. Some, including many rock festivals, are held only once. Some festivals are organized as for-profit concerts and others are benefits for a specific cause. Another type of music festival is the educative type, organized annually in local communities, regionally or nationally, for the benefit of amateur musicians of all ages and grades of achievement.
The Pythian Games at Delphi included musical performances, and may be one of the earliest festivals known. During the Middle Ages festivals were often held as competitions.
Another type of music festival is the educative type, organized annually in local communities, regionally or nationally, for the benefit of amateur musicians of all ages and grades of achievement. While entrants perform prepared pieces in the presence of an audience which includes competitors, the essential feature of this type of festival is that each participant receives verbal and written feedback, there and then, from a highly qualified, professional adjudicator—someone whom they might never meet in any other way. They also usually receive a certificate, classified according to merit, and some may win trophies. The competitive element is often played down, however, as the important aspect is that participants can learn from one another. Such festivals aim to provide a friendly and supportive platform for musicians to share in the excitement of making music. For many they provide a bridge between lessons & examinations and performing confidently in public.

Gunnar Idenstam : It was a great honor to perform yesterday, on Bach´s birthday, this concert with Swedish folk music from the Baroque period, interleaved with chorals by Bach, wonderfully sung by Jessica Bäcklund, Love Enström, Kaspar von Weber and Johan Karlström. Thanks to my fantastic co-musicians Johan Hedin , Erik Rydvall , Niklas Roswall and Ida Meidell Blylod this was a lovely and beautiful exposure of our national treasure of elegant, sensual, spiritual and apelling dance music. In the 18:th century there wasn´t any clear difference in defining what was "folk" music and what we today call "classical" music, but there was only music!

It was the first day
And the first day I saw you
Never really thought
That you would be the one
To make the sky turn blue
It was amazing
The way that you captured me
It turned me hard
And made me feel we can be so easily
How enchanting, as we're dancing
My life began to change
Now I don't know what to control
But all that I can say is
Era la musica
That made me run to you
Era la musica
That made my dreams come true
Era la musica
As we danced the night away
Era la musica
That made me love you
So exciting
How did I find someone like you?
Someone that made me feel
That love was really oh so true
It was incredible
The way that this came to be
He took my hand and then began
To take a hold of me
How enchanting, as we're dancing
My life began to change
Now I don't know what to control
But all that I can say was
Era la musica
That made me run to you
Era la musica
That made my dreams come true
Era la musica
As we danced the night away
Era la musica
That made me love you
It was the music that made me love you
The way you move takes my breath away
The way you dance girl is like no other
Was it the music that made me stay?
Stay with me girl I'll show you where we can go
Far away to a place only love goes
Yo no se lo que me esta pasando
A ti te sigo amando
How enchanting, as we're dancing
My life began to change
Now I know what to control
But all that I can say is
Era la musica
That made me run to you
Era la musica
That made my dreams come true
Era la musica
