1983 (film)

1983 is a 2014 Indian Malayalam coming-of-age sports drama film directed by fashion photographer Abrid Shine, who has written the story and co-written the script with Bipin Chandran. The film produced under the banner of Shams Films stars Nivin Pauly in lead role. Anoop Menon, Nikki Galrani, Joy Mathew, Srinda Ashab, Jacob Gregory, Saiju Kurup, Shine Tom Chacko, Dinesh, Sui Joseph, Neeraj Madhav and Sanju, make up the rest of the cast. Pradeesh Varma cranked the camera and music director was Gopi Sunder for which he received the 62nd National Film Awards for Best Background Score.

The film is a family drama that revolves around cricket, it centers on Rameshan (Nivin Pauly) and his memories from 1983 when India won its first World Cup under Kapil Dev.1983 which is also a tribute to cricketer Sachin Tendulkar released on 31 January was the first success film of 2014. All the songs composed by Gopi Sunder became popular and one of them, "Olanjali Kuruvi", was a chartbuster.

The film received three Kerala State Film Awards including Best Debut Director for Abride Shine, Best Actor for Nivin Pauly and Second Best Actor for Anoop Menon.

Nivin Pauly

Nivin Pauly (born 11 October 1984) is an Indian film actor best known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He made his debut with Malarvaadi Arts Club (2010) which was directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan and produced by Dileep. Later, he went on to act in successful films including Thattathin Marayathu (2012), Neram (2013), 1983 (2014), Bangalore Days (2014), Oru Vadakkan Selfie (2015) and Premam (2015).

In 2015, he received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his performances in Bangalore Days and 1983.

Early and personal life

Nivin Pauly was born into a Malayali Syro-Malabar Catholic family from Aluva, Ernakulam on 11 October 1984. Nivin's father, Pauly Bonaventure, was a mechanic who worked in Aarau, Switzerland and his mother a nurse at a Swiss hospital. Nivin used to spend his holidays with his parents in Aarau where they stayed for 25 years. He graduated with a B.Tech degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering from Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT), Angamaly in 2006.

Anoop Menon

Biography

Anoop Menon is an Indian film actor, screenwriter and lyricist. He worked in television before finding success as an actor in films. He won the 2009 Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor and also the 2009 Filmfare Awards for Thirakkatha. Actress Shweta Menon is his cousin.

Personal Life

Anoop Menon was born on 23 March 1976 to P. Gangadharan Nair and Indira Menon in Kozhikode. He grew up in Thiruvananthapuram. He is a law graduate from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram (1994-1999) and was the first rank holder from Kerala University 'm. Career

He began his acting career in Malayalam television serials. He became popular for his roles in two popular series on Asianet called Swapnam and Megham, the former one directed by K. K. Rajeev. Anoop made his debut as a screenwriter in Pakal Nakshatrangal with Mohanlal playing father and Anoop playing his son.
