Subramani Karuppaiya (born 25 May), known by his stage name Goundamani, is an Indian film actor and comedian. He is better known for his comic duo partnership in Tamil films with fellow actor Senthil. His real name "Mani" got the "Counter" prefix for his ability to give counter on the spot and off the script (as a warning to his co artiste to be prepared) on stage and during shooting which eventually evolved into Goundamani as per Bhagyaraj who was writing scripts and title credits for Bharathiraja in his early days during the movie 16 Vayathinile.
He ran away from his village at the age 13 due to his father's scolding.[10] and first he worked in a oil mart, then a private wine shop as bar attender and then landed up in drama where he started developing his skills. His first film was Ithikkara Pakki (1980).[11] He slowly entered the Tamil film industry in small characters and finally landed a good role in the film Malayoor Mambattiyan. He has acted in many popular films with several of the leading actors and comedians in the south Indian cine industry. He usually appears in films with Goundamani in a slapstick double act. Together they have formed a comic pair in many Tamil films and was known as the Laurel and hardy of Tamil Cinema.[12] Recently, Senthil has started acting in Tamil tele-serials.

Early life and career
Goundamani was born as Subramani in Valagundapuram, a village near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. His father is Karuppaiya and mother is Annam (Kaliamma).He is married to Shanthi and has 2 children.
He gained entry into the Tamil film industry due to his strong theatrical background. He is popular of giving counter to the co- actors during stage performance which garnered him the name " Counter Mani". This in Tamil polyglot became as stage name "Goundamani". Goundamani has played lead roles in a few films during his career, but is predominantly a supporting actor playing comedy roles. While performing roles of a solo comedian in films, he often co-starred with Senthil to form a comedy duo. The pair was described as "Tamil cinema's Laurel and Hardy" and have performed slapstick humour in several Tamil films since the mid-1980s until the early 2000s. After recuperating from diabetes and respiratory illnesses during the late 2000s, he is about to feature in Vaaimai and also play the lead role in 49-O, which began productions in 2013. It is being directed by debutant Arokiadoss, a former assistant of Gautham Vasudev Menon.

Comedy
In a modern sense, comedy (from the Greek: κωμῳδία, kōmōidía) refers to any discourse or work generally intended to be humorous or to amuse by inducing laughter, especially in theatre, television, film and stand-up comedy. The origins of the term are found in Ancient Greece. In the Athenian democracy, the public opinion of voters was influenced by the political satire performed by the comic poets at the theaters. The theatrical genre of Greek comedy can be described as a dramatic performance which pits two groups or societies against each other in an amusing agon or conflict. Northrop Frye depicted these two opposing sides as a "Society of Youth" and a "Society of the Old". A revised view characterizes the essential agon of comedy as a struggle between a relatively powerless youth and the societal conventions that pose obstacles to his hopes. In this struggle, the youth is understood to be constrained by his lack of social authority, and is left with little choice but to take recourse in ruses which engender very dramatic irony which provokes laughter.

Senthil (actor)
Senthil is an actor from Tamil Nadu, India. He is notable for his comedian roles along with fellow actor Goundamani.
Acting career
He has acted in many popular movies with several of the leading actors and comedians in the south Indian cine industry. His first movie was Pasi (1979) in which he played a non-comedic role. He usually appears in films with Goundamani in a slapstick double act. Together they have formed a comic pair in many Tamil films. Recently, Senthil has started acting in Tamil teleserials.
He along with Koundamani was known as the Laurel and hardy of Tamil Cinema.
Personal life
He was born on 23 March 1951 in a small village called Ilanjambore near Mudukulathur in Ramanathapuram District. His parents were Ramamoorthi and Thirukammal. He ran away from his village at the age 12 due to his father's scolding. He first joined an oil mart, then a private wine shop as bar attender and then landed up in drama where he started developing his skills. He slowly entered the Tamil film industry in small characters and finally landed a good role in the movie Malayoor Mambattiyan. He married Kalaiselvi on May 14, 1984. He has two sons, Dr. Manikanda Prabhu and Hemachandra Prabhu.

His real name "Mani" got the "Counter" prefix for his ability to give counter on the spot and off the script (as a warning to his co artiste to be prepared) on stage and during shooting which eventually evolved into Goundamani as per Bhagyaraj who was writing scripts and title credits for Bharathiraja in his early days during the movie 16 Vayathinile.
He ran away from his village at the age 13 due to his father's scolding.[10] and first he worked in a oil mart, then a private wine shop as bar attender and then landed up in drama where he started developing his skills. His first film was Ithikkara Pakki (1980).[11] He slowly entered the Tamil film industry in small characters and finally landed a good role in the film Malayoor Mambattiyan. He has acted in many popular films with several of the leading actors and comedians in the south Indian cine industry. He usually appears in films with Goundamani in a slapstick double act. Together they have formed a comic pair in many Tamil films and was known as the Laurel and hardy of Tamil Cinema.[12] Recently, Senthil has started acting in Tamil tele-serials.

He is better known for his comic duo partnership in Tamil films with fellow actor Senthil. His real name "Mani" got the "Counter" prefix for his ability to give counter on the spot and off the script (as a warning to his co artiste to be prepared) on stage and during shooting which eventually evolved into Goundamani as per Bhagyaraj who was writing scripts and title credits for Bharathiraja in his early days during the movie 16 Vayathinile.
He ran away from his village at the age 13 due to his father's scolding.[10] and first he worked in a oil mart, then a private wine shop as bar attender and then landed up in drama where he started developing his skills. His first film was Ithikkara Pakki (1980).[11] He slowly entered the Tamil film industry in small characters and finally landed a good role in the film Malayoor Mambattiyan. He has acted in many popular films with several of the leading actors and comedians in the south Indian cine industry. He usually appears in films with Goundamani in a slapstick double act. Together they have formed a comic pair in many Tamil films and was known as the Laurel and hardy of Tamil Cinema.[12] Recently, Senthil has started acting in Tamil tele-serials.

Actor Kumarimuthu has passed away last night at a private hospital where he was admitted due to a sudden illness. The veteran actor was 77. Kumarimuthu has been acting in Tamil films since 1978. His first film was 'Ival Oru Sethai' and then he acted in director Mahendran's 'Nandu'. Since then he has acted in more than 500 Tamil films in comical and supporting roles. Some of his notable performances came from 'Oomai Vizhigal', 'Idhu Namma Aalu' in which he played a barber and the hero Bhagyaraj's father, 'Pudhu Vasantham' in which he played a cheat, 'Idhayam', 'Sahadevan Mahadevan' and 'Aanazhagan', He is remembered for his unique way of laughing. Actor Kumarimuthu has passed away last night at a private hospital where he was admitted due to a sudden illness. The veteran actor was 77.
Kumarimuthu has been acting in Tamil films since 1978. His first film was 'Ival Oru Sethai' and then he acted in director Mahendran's 'Nandu'. Since then he has acted in more than 500 Tamil films in comical and supporting roles. Some of his notable performances came from 'Oomai Vizhigal', 'Idhu Namma Aalu' in which he played a barber and the hero Bhagyaraj's father, 'Pudhu Vasantham' in which he played a cheat, 'Idhayam', 'Sahadevan Mahadevan' and 'Aanazhagan',
He is remembered for his unique way of laughing.
His last film happens to be the Vijay-Nayanthara starrer 'Villu'. Later he actively took part in the issues of Nadigar Sangam, raised questions against the previous administration and played an instrumental role in the events that brought about the recent elections which eventually lead to the victory of a new team.
He was also an active member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party and one of its star orators in the party's campaign meetings.
Indiaglitz conveys its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the senior actor and we also pray the almighty for the departed soul to Rest in Peace.
