Fl Keys Adventuring #5 - Upper Sugarloaf Old State Road 4A + (Catch and Cook)
Windy days doesn't mean you can't get out and enjoy the Florida Keys. I decided to do a different style of trip this time. On a prior video, I walked the end stretch of Old State Road 4A. This time I wanted to cover some ground so I prepped the old Schwinn mountain bike, brought out the pink backpack, and stuffed it with some fishing and cooking equipment.
It is a fairly casual bike ride and a great place for an evening stroll with quite a few water access points as well as a jumping bridge. Plenty of out of the way spots for a nice picnic. A great place to go with the family.
To make it a bit more interesting as I wasn't going to be doing any swimming, I decided to bring a little ultralight two piece rod and reel and do a quick shore lunch. I brought some cooked rice and some shredded cabbage, a whole avocado, and some cooking oil. Basically, all I had to add was a small fish for protein.

Daria Lugina paints the doors on Bay State Road using a mixture of dish soap and acrylic paint. She often paints easily recognizable cartoon characters like Ariel from The Little Mermaid. She's a painting major and usually works with oil paint in the studio, so she uses the doors as a way to relax and do something fun for the community whenever she has free time. She thinks it's great that people recognize the doors and associate the building with the paintings.

Key West Kayak Adventuring - Old State Road 4A
There is a closed section of the Old State Road 4A that extends down from Sugarloaf to the SaddleBunch Keys. I have always seen the road that ran right to the water by Shark Channel on Google Satellite, but never knew what it was. Since it was another windy day, I figured it would make a good adventure to see if I could find the entrance, and walk the road to see what condition it was and if their was any historical aspects still around. Check it out to see what I found.

Road
A road is a thoroughfare, route, or way on land between two places that has been paved or otherwise improved to allow travel by foot or some form of conveyance, including a horse, cart, bicycle, or motor vehicle.
Roads consist of one or two roadways (British English: carriageways), each with one or more lanes and any associated sidewalks (British English: pavement) and road verges.

In urban areas roads may diverge through a city or village and be named as streets, serving a dual function as urban space easement and route. ABU Garcia
ABU Garcia, originally AB Urfabriken, then ABU Svängsta, is a fishing reel and fishing equipment company from Svängsta, Sweden, and is best known the manufacturer of the famous Ambassadeur bait casting (overhead) reel.
Early history
Still one of the most recognizable names in fishing technology, AB Urfabriken began at a factory located near the Mörrum River, in Blekinge, Sweden. The company, founded in 1921, originally manufactured watches, telephone timers and taximeters. However, the founder's son, Göte Borgström, a fishing enthusiast, soon redirected its focus towards fishing reels during World War II, when demand for those products grew scarce. The reigning outdoor sports participant distributing and manufacturing firm THE GARCIA CORPORATION USA 1947-1978 was the largest fishing tackle company of its time, formerly known under the earlier name Charles Garcia & Company New York. The Garcia Corporation started importing and marketing ABU's many reels in the 1950s, including the famous Ambassadeur reels. Garcia was already the leader in fishing tackle importing, marketing and distributing the famous Mitchell 300 spinning reel from France since 1947. Garcia Tackle Company 1979-1980 was a short-lived partnership between ABU and MITCHELL S.A. of France and in 1980, ABU AB acquired New Jersey based Garcia Tackle Company and changed their name to Abu Garcia. Mitchell S.A. would go their own way, but the two brands would join together again under the Pure Fishing banner only again to be sold to the Jarden Corporation in 2007.

It is a fairly casual bike ride and a great place for an evening stroll with quite a few water access points as well as a jumping bridge. Plenty of out of the way spots for a nice picnic. To make it a bit more interesting as I wasn't going to be doing any swimming, I decided to bring a little ultralight two piece rod and reel and do a quick shore lunch. I brought some cooked rice and some shredded cabbage, a whole avocado, and some cooking oil. Basically, all I had to add was a small fish for protein. Directions at the end of the video. Fl Keys Adventuring #5 - Upper Sugarloaf Old State Road 4A + (Catch and Cook)
Windy days doesn't mean you can't get out and enjoy the Florida Keys. I decided to do a different style of trip this time. On a prior video, I walked the end stretch of Old State Road 4A. This time I wanted to cover some ground so I prepped the old Schwinn mountain bike, brought out the pink backpack, and stuffed it with some fishing and cooking equipment.
It is a fairly casual bike ride and a great place for an evening stroll with quite a few water access points as well as a jumping bridge. Plenty of out of the way spots for a nice picnic. A great place to go with the family.
To make it a bit more interesting as I wasn't going to be doing any swimming, I decided to bring a little ultralight two piece rod and reel and do a quick shore lunch. Fl Keys Adventuring #5 - Upper Sugarloaf Old State Road 4A + (Catch and Cook)
Windy days doesn't mean you can't get out and enjoy the Florida Keys. I decided to do a different style of trip this time. On a prior video, I walked the end stretch of Old State Road 4A. This time I wanted to cover some ground so I prepped the old Schwinn mountain bike, brought out the pink backpack, and stuffed it with some fishing and cooking equipment.
It is a fairly casual bike ride and a great place for an evening stroll with quite a few water access points as well as a jumping bridge. Plenty of out of the way spots for a nice picnic. A great place to go with the family.
To make it a bit more interesting as I wasn't going to be doing any swimming, I decided to bring a little ultralight two piece rod and reel and do a quick shore lunch. I brought some cooked rice and some shredded cabbage, a whole avocado, and some cooking oil. Basically, all I had to add was a small fish for protein.

I have always seen the road that ran right to the water by Shark Channel on Google Satellite, but never knew what it was. Since it was another windy day, I figured it would make a good adventure to see if I could find the entrance, and walk the road to see what condition it was and if their was any historical aspects still around. Key West Kayak Adventuring - Old State Road 4A There is a closed section of the Old State Road 4A that extends down from Sugarloaf to the SaddleBunch Keys. I have always seen the road that ran right to the water by Shark Channel on Google Satellite, but never knew what it was. Since it was another windy day, I figured it would make a good adventure to see if I could find the entrance, and walk the road to see what condition it was and if their was any historical aspects still around. Fl Keys Adventuring #5 - Upper Sugarloaf Old State Road 4A + (Catch and Cook)
Windy days doesn't mean you can't get out and enjoy the Florida Keys. I decided to do a different style of trip this time. On a prior video, I walked the end stretch of Old State Road 4A. This time I wanted to cover some ground so I prepped the old Schwinn mountain bike, brought out the pink backpack, and stuffed it with some fishing and cooking equipment.
It is a fairly casual bike ride and a great place for an evening stroll with quite a few water access points as well as a jumping bridge. Plenty of out of the way spots for a nice picnic. A great place to go with the family.
To make it a bit more interesting as I wasn't going to be doing any swimming, I decided to bring a little ultralight two piece rod and reel and do a quick shore lunch. I brought some cooked rice and some shredded cabbage, a whole avocado, and some cooking oil. Basically, all I had to add was a small fish for protein.
