Yanbu
Yanbu' al Bahr (Arabic: ينبع البØر‎, YanbuÊ¿ al-Baḥr, "spring by the sea"), also known simply as Yanbu, Yambo or Yenbo, is a major Red Sea port in the Al Madinah province of western Saudi Arabia. It is approximately 300 kilometers northwest of Jeddah (at 24°05′N 38°00′E / 24.083°N 38.000°E / 24.083; 38.000). The population is 188,430 (2004 census). A large number of the residents are foreign expatriates working in the oil refineries and petrochemical industry, mostly from Asia, but there are also large numbers from the Middle East, Europe, United States, and Canada.
History
Pre-modern era
Yanbu's history dates back at least 2,500Â years, when it was a staging point on the spice and incense route from Yemen to Egypt and the Mediterranean region.
The Invasion of Dul Ashir took place in Yanbu. Two or three months after Prophet Muhammad's return from Buwat, he appointed Abu Salamah Ibn Abd al-Assad to take his place in Medina while he was away commanding another raid. Between 150 and 200 followers joined this operation to al-Ushayra, Yanbu in either the month of Jumada al-awwal or Jumada al-Thani.

Cuban rumba
Rumba is a secular genre of Cuban music involving dance, percussion, and song. It originated in the northern regions of Cuba, mainly in urban Havana and Matanzas, during the late 19th century. It is based on African music and dance traditions, namely Abakuá and yuka, as well as the Spanish-based coros de clave. According to Argeliers León, rumba is one of the major "genre complexes" of Cuban music, and the term rumba complex is now commonly used by musicologists. This complex encompasses the three traditional forms of rumba (yambú, guaguancó and columbia), as well as their contemporary derivatives and other minor styles.
Traditionally performed by poor workers of African descent in streets and solares (courtyards), rumba remains one of Cuba's most characteristic forms of music and dance. Vocal improvisation, elaborate dancing and polyrhythmic drumming are the key components of all rumba styles. Cajones (wooden boxes) were used as drums until the early 20th century, when they were replaced by tumbadoras (conga drums). During the genre's recorded history, which began in the 1940s, there have been numerous successful rumba bands such as Los Papines, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, Clave y Guaguancó, AfroCuba de Matanzas and Yoruba Andabo.

Since 1976 we have been working for the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu to master plan and then manage all infrastructure design construction and development for the new city. We do wastewater treatment plans, we do desalination plants, we're doing schools, and mosques, and housing projects, and high-rise office buildings. We do just about every kind of construction project that you can imagine. It's cool to be associated with a program of this magnitude. It's the kind of work that every engineer dreams about. We get to build a city from scratch. It's just phenomenal. So it's just a great opportunity to be here and do work that you only dream about when y...

Yanbu is a small peaceful city on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia Parsons has been an integral part of the city's development. Since 1976 we have been working for the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu to master plan and then manage all infrastructure design construction and development for the new city.
We do wastewater treatment plans, we do desalination plants, we're doing schools, and mosques, and housing projects, and high-rise office buildings. We do just about every kind of construction project that you can imagine. It's cool to be associated with a program of this magnitude. It's the kind of work that every engineer dreams about. We get to build a city from scratch. It's just phenomenal. So it's just a great opportunity to be here and do work that you only dream about when you're in school.
With the city located on the beautiful Red Sea coast there are many recreational activities centered on the water: fishing, scuba, diving, sailing, and voting are very popular. Overnight camping and barbecues at the beach in the surrounding mountains or in the desert are fun weekend activities for the more adventurous. The city is home to a large, well-equipped Medical Center and the number of smaller private clinics continues to grow.
We find working within the city wonderful. My daughter has developed many friendships over here and my son many friends as well - within the kingdom both with Saudis and with expats.
One positive and often overlooked feature of an assignment at Yanbu is the proximity of Saudi Arabia to other interesting places. To name a few: Italy, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt, and Kenya are popular short-haul destinations and the major cities of Europe are not too much farther away.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time off this year so far. I'm thankful that I work for Parsons it's been a very positive experience so far for me and I thoroughly enjoyed working in Yanbu itself. It's a safe environment with a wonderful community and great activities.

Yanbu is a small peaceful city on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia Parsons has been an integral part of the city's development. Since 1976 we have been working for the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu to master plan and then manage all infrastructure design construction and development for the new city.
We do wastewater treatment plans, we do desalination plants, we're doing schools, and mosques, and housing projects, and high-rise office buildings. We do just about every kind of construction project that you can imagine. It's cool to be associated with a program of this magnitude. It's the kind of work that every engineer dreams about. We get to build a city from scratch. It's just phenomenal. So it's just a great opportunity to be here and do work that you only dream about when you're in school.
With the city located on the beautiful Red Sea coast there are many recreational activities centered on the water: fishing, scuba, diving, sailing, and voting are very popular. Overnight camping and barbecues at the beach in the surrounding mountains or in the desert are fun weekend activities for the more adventurous. The city is home to a large, well-equipped Medical Center and the number of smaller private clinics continues to grow.
We find working within the city wonderful. My daughter has developed many friendships over here and my son many friends as well - within the kingdom both with Saudis and with expats.
One positive and often overlooked feature of an assignment at Yanbu is the proximity of Saudi Arabia to other interesting places. To name a few: Italy, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt, and Kenya are popular short-haul destinations and the major cities of Europe are not too much farther away.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time off this year so far. I'm thankful that I work for Parsons it's been a very positive experience so far for me and I thoroughly enjoyed working in Yanbu itself. It's a safe environment with a wonderful community and great activities.

Yanbu
Yanbu' al Bahr (Arabic: ينبع البØر‎, YanbuÊ¿ al-Baḥr, "spring by the sea"), also known simply as Yanbu, Yambo or Yenbo, is a major Red Sea port in the Al Madinah province of western Saudi Arabia. It is approximately 300 kilometers northwest of Jeddah (at 24°05′N 38°00′E / 24.083°N 38.000°E / 24.083; 38.000). The population is 188,430 (2004 census). A large number of the residents are foreign expatriates working in the oil refineries and petrochemical industry, mostly from Asia, but there are also large numbers from the Middle East, Europe, United States, and Canada.
History
Pre-modern era
Yanbu's history dates back at least 2,500Â years, when it was a staging point on the spice and incense route from Yemen to Egypt and the Mediterranean region.
The Invasion of Dul Ashir took place in Yanbu. Two or three months after Prophet Muhammad's return from Buwat, he appointed Abu Salamah Ibn Abd al-Assad to take his place in Medina while he was away commanding another raid. Between 150 and 200 followers joined this operation to al-Ushayra, Yanbu in either the month of Jumada al-awwal or Jumada al-Thani.
