Kevin Joseph (baseball)

Kevin Joseph (born August 1, 1976 in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania) is a former pitcher who last played professional baseball in 2003. Joseph attended Rice University, which has had many alumni become Major Leaguers.

In 1997, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 6th round (178th overall). He started his professional career that same year in A-ball. Over the years, he found his niche as a relief pitcher, posting minor league ERAs as low as 1.42 and 1.77.

By the time he made his Major League debut at age 25 in 2002 with the St. Louis Cardinals (the Giants traded him earlier that year for Jason Christiansen), he was already a veteran minor leaguer. He had a very small chance to prove he was major league worthy, only appearing in 11 games that year. Joseph was quickly sent to the minors, where he spent one more season. In his final season, he made two stops in the minors, each winning only one game with each team.

Kevin Claudius Joseph (born 20 December 1978) is a Trinidadian-born former British Virgin Islands cricketer. Joseph was a left-handed batsman.

In 2006, the British Virgin Islands were invited to take part in the 2006 Stanford 20/20, whose matches held official Twenty20 status. Joseph made a single appearance in the tournament against Saint Lucia in a preliminary round defeat, with him being run out for 19 runs opening the batting by the combination of Darren Sammy and Garey Mathurin. He later played for the team in its second appearance in the Stanford 20/20 in 2008, making a single appearance in a preliminary round defeat against Dominica, where he again opened the batting and was dismissed for 5 runs by Raymond Casimir.

Joseph Raymond "Joe" McCarthy (November 14, 1908 – May 2, 1957) was an American politician who served as a Republican U.S. Senator from the state of Wisconsin from 1947 until his death in 1957. Beginning in 1950, McCarthy became the most visible public face of a period in which Cold War tensions fueled fears of widespread Communist subversion. He was noted for making claims that there were large numbers of Communists and Soviet spies and sympathizers inside the United States federal government and elsewhere. Ultimately, his tactics and inability to substantiate his claims led him to be censured by the United States Senate.

The term "McCarthyism", coined in 1950 in reference to McCarthy's practices, was soon applied to similar anti-communist activities. Today, the term is used more generally in reference to demagogic, reckless, and unsubstantiated accusations, as well as public attacks on the character or patriotism of political opponents.

McCarthy was born in 1908 in the Town of Grand Chute in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, and attended Marquette University, eventually earning an LL.B. from Marquette University Law School. At age 33, McCarthy volunteered for the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II. He successfully ran for the United States Senate in 1946, defeating Robert M. La Follette Jr. After three largely undistinguished years in the Senate, McCarthy rose suddenly to national fame in February 1950 when he asserted in a speech that he had a list of "members of the Communist Party and members of a spy ring" who were employed in the State Department.

Joseph McCarthy (September 27, 1885 – December 18, 1943) was an American lyricist whose most famous songs include "You Made Me Love You", and "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows", based upon the haunting melody from the middle section of Frédéric Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu.

McCarthy, who was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, was a frequent collaborator of composers Harry Tierney (1890–1965) and Fred Fisher (1875–1942). He was the director of ASCAP from 1921 to 1929, and is not to be confused with U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy (1908–57).
