Worked four months in the Moroccan art department for the Disney'/Bruckheimer film, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with Production Design by Wolf Kroeger. As Sr. Digital Set Designer, I was part of a small digital sets team that primarily focused on the virtual city of Alamut, later realized by visual effects firm MPC.

My safari guides thought I was nuts taking thousands of photos each day so hopefully now they will understand...
This was my first trip to anywhere in the continent and it was eye opening. There are few things more thrilling than being woken up at 5:30am to the sounds of lions outside your tent. I will be back South Africa.

We spent time in Marakele, Madikwe, and Sabi Sands trying to find the big 5: lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, rhino. As you can see we found them all thanks to our safari guides. We had a little bit of luck on our side as well. Also, big thanks to Hein Myers for taking us out to get some astro time-lapses after hours.
I will be releasing many videos in the next few months so make sure to follow me!
Time and Hyper-lapses were all shot on the Canon 5D and Sony A7s in raw, graded in Lightroom with LightroomTL, and further stabilized, motion tracked, and whatever else was needed in After Effects CC. Final edit was cut in Premiere Pro.

Sands Hotel and Casino
The Sands Hotel and Casino was a historic hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, United States, that operated from 1952 to 1996. Designed by the architect Wayne McAllister, with a prominent 56 feet (17 m) high sign, the Sands was the seventh resort to open on the Strip. During its heyday, the Sands was the center of entertainment and "cool" on the Strip, and hosted many famous entertainers of the day, most notably the Rat Pack.
The hotel was established in 1952 by Texan oil tycoon Jake Freedman, who bought up the LaRue Restaurant, which had opened two years earlier. The hotel was opened on December 15, 1952 as a casino with 200 rooms, and was established less than three months after the opening of another notable landmark, Sahara Hotel and Casino. The hotel rooms were divided into four two-story motel wings, each with fifty rooms, and named after famous race tracks. The opening was widely publicized, and every guest was given a Chamois bag with silver dollars. Crime bosses such as Meyer Lansky and Frank Costello acquired shares in the hotel and attracted Frank Sinatra, who made his performing debut at Sands in October 1953. Sinatra later bought a share in the hotel himself. Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. were instrumental throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s in bringing a change in racial policy in Sands, and after an incident in 1961, it began employing blacks. In 1960 the classic caper film Ocean's 11 was shot at the hotel, and it subsequently attained iconic status, with regular performances by Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis. Jr., Red Skelton and others, who performed regularly in the hotel's world-renowned Copa Room. Much of the musical success of the Copa Room is credited to the room's band leader and musical conductor Antonio Morelli, whose house orchestra performed in the recording of hundreds of albums over the years.

Prince of Persia
Prince of Persia is a video game franchise created by Jordan Mechner, originally published by Brøderbund, then the Learning Company, and currently Ubisoft. The franchise is built around a series of action-adventure games focused on various incarnations of the eponymous prince. The first game in the series was designed by Mechner after the success of his previous game with Brøderbund, Karateka. The title was successful enough to spawn two sequels: the series has been rebooted twice since its acquisition by Ubisoft, and has been successful enough to warrant a film adaptation, penned in part by Mechner and released by Walt Disney Pictures in 2010.
Even though Mechner has been involved with the series in varying capacities throughout its history, the games themselves have been developed and published by several different companies. The first two games in the series, Prince of Persia and Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame, were published by Brøderbund. Prince of Persia 3D, the first to use 3D computer graphics, was developed by Red Orb Entertainment and published by The Learning Company on PC, and developed by Avalanche Software and published by Mattel Interactive on Sega Dreamcast. French-based video game company Ubisoft began developing and publishing the series in 2003 with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and so far have been the most prolific of any company in bringing out new games in the series.

Gold was discovered back in 1859 by William S Bodey and at its apex, the town had a population of 10,000 residents through the 1880's. Bodie was replete with the makings of old west folklore; gunfighters, saloons, miners, gambling halls and prostitutes, a rough place through and through. But the town's success didn't last and faded from 'glory' prior to World War I and was finally down for the count during WWII once all mining operations were halted due to the war effort. It was effectively abandoned with many of the structures retaining the inhabitants belongings because the roads out were toll and weight based; many people simply decided to leave their belongings behind to avoid large fees so the ghost town was born. Today, after two fires, around 100 structures remain, (5% of the original town) some of which are filled with furniture, lined and matted with layer up on layer of rotting and sagging wallpaper. Some buildings are seemingly untouched time-capsules to the once treacherous lives of the miners and other inhabitants of the town. Kids toys sitting by the window, a ball peen hammer on the ground, strewn gears in a machine shop, and rusted hangers hanging in a closet. Walking the grounds, particularly the cemetery, I was overcome with a sense of foreboding and the gentle but incessant march of time continuing on. The once important lives buried under a wood tombstone were all but forgotten and those now nameless people who were loved or loved others, brothers, fathers, sisters and mothers, almost never existed unless you look at the uneven ground at a certain angle in the perfect light. We spent a week shooting with access to some of the interiors of the buildings, and the ability to shoot at night. Because it is located in the Sierra Neveda and its unique geography and high elevation, the weather was quite extreme and could change in a matter of minutes; most nights were very cold and the temperature often sat in the low teens and were mixed with snow, wind, and icey rain. Bodie is kept in a state of "arrested decay" and hangs (sometimes literally) in a sort of desolated limbo, as the dry lumber, rusted nails, and worn masonry, slowly give into the sands of time. I had the pleasure of spending four days at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, USA back in April 2010. On the first two days the desert was blasted by incredible strong winds - strong enough to make walking difficult and to blast sand everywhere. The amount of sand in the air made for some fantastic images at sunset as the warm orange sun caught the sand in the air. I am still very much learning the ropes with video but finding it incredibly fun. For this exercise in cutting I wanted to time the imagery to the outstanding Hans Zimmer music. I wish I had a lot more footage. I end the video with some of my landscape stills from White Sands. Captured on Canon 5D Mk II and Canon L lenses. Music by Hans Zimmer from Inception soundtrack. Worked four months in the Moroccan art department for the Disney'/Bruckheimer film, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with Production Design by Wolf Kroeger. As Sr. Digital Set Designer, I was part of a small digital sets team that primarily focused on the virtual city of Alamut, later realized by visual effects firm MPC. LS:N Global recently visited the studio of designer Philippe Malouin Malouin for an insight into the creation process behind the Dunes collection of tableware he is producing for 1882 Ltd’s exhibition during the London Design Festival. Island in the Sky
Inhale the fresh air, smell the refreshing scent of the green pine forests glowing above black volcano sands, no sound but the wind in the trees. A deep blue sky matches with the blue atlantic ocean far below. Epic volcanic trails lead trough an unique archaic landscape. Feel the elements. Be yourself, at the “Island in the Sky”. This short film, a homage to the beautiful Island of La Palma - "Europe's Hawaii" - was like a never ending project for me. This was my first trip to anywhere in the continent and it was eye opening. There are few things more thrilling than being woken up at 5:30am to the sounds of lions outside your tent. I will be back South Africa.

We spent time in Marakele, Madikwe, and Sabi Sands trying to find the big 5: lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, rhino. As you can see we found them all thanks to our safari guides. We had a little bit of luck on our side as well. Also, big thanks to Hein Myers for taking us out to get some astro time-lapses after hours.
I will be releasing many videos in the next few months so make sure to follow me!
Time and Hyper-lapses were all shot on the Canon 5D and Sony A7s in raw, graded in Lightroom with LightroomTL, and further stabilized, motion tracked, and whatever else was needed in After Effects CC. Final edit was cut in Premiere Pro.

Town of Ghosts
Bodie is by far the best preserved ghost town in the United States.
Gold was discovered back in 1859 by William S Bodey and at its apex, the town had a population of 10,000 residents through the 1880's. Bodie was replete with the makings of old west folklore; gunfighters, saloons, miners, gambling halls and prostitutes, a rough place through and through. But the town's success didn't last and faded from 'glory' prior to World War I and was finally down for the count during WWII once all mining operations were halted due to the war effort. It was effectively abandoned with many of the structures retaining the inhabitants belongings because the roads out were toll and weight based; many people simply decided to leave their belongings behind to avoid large fees so the ghost town was born.
Today, after two fires, around 100 structures remain, (5% of the original town) some of which are filled with furniture, lined and matted with layer up on layer of rotting and sagging wallpaper. Some buildings are seemingly untouched time-capsules to the once treacherous lives of the miners and other inhabitants of the town. Kids toys sitting by the window, a ball peen hammer on the ground, strewn gears in a machine shop, and rusted hangers hanging in a closet.
Walking the grounds, particularly the cemetery, I was overcome with a sense of foreboding and the gentle but incessant march of time continuing on. The once important lives buried under a wood tombstone were all but forgotten and those now nameless people who were loved or loved others, brothers, fathers, sisters and mothers, almost never existed unless you look at the uneven ground at a certain angle in the perfect light.
We spent a week shooting with access to some of the interiors of the buildings, and the ability to shoot at night. Because it is located in the Sierra Neveda and its unique geography and high elevation, the weather was quite extreme and could change in a matter of minutes; most nights were very cold and the temperature often sat in the low teens and were mixed with snow, wind, and icey rain.
Bodie is kept in a state of "arrested decay" and hangs (sometimes literally) in a sort of desolated limbo, as the dry lumber, rusted nails, and worn masonry, slowly give into the sands of time.

I had the pleasure of spending four days at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, USA back in April 2010. On the first two days the desert was blasted by incredible strong winds - strong enough to make walking difficult and to blast sand everywhere. The amount of sand in the air made for some fantastic images at sunset as the warm orange sun caught the sand in the air.
I am still very much learning the ropes with video but finding it incredibly fun. For this exercise in cutting I wanted to time the imagery to the outstanding Hans Zimmer music. I wish I had a lot more footage. I end the video with some of my landscape stills from White Sands.

LS:N Global recently visited the studio of designer Philippe Malouin Malouin for an insight into the creation process behind the Dunes collection of tableware he is producing for 1882 Ltd’s exhibition during the London Design Festival.
Over the past 18 months he has been designing a bone china series for small, family-run company 1882, which is reviving bone china in Britain.
‘I think the process is always much more interesting than the product itself,’ Malouin tells LS:N Global. ‘Adapting materials and transformation techniques that are not meant to be used in certain applications.’
Fascinated by the beauty of the mundane, Malouin was inspired by the grace and movement of grains of sand flowing in an hourglass to demonstrate the passing of time. After experimenting with an adapted record player he has re-created this motion using a lo-fi machine that slowly deposits sugar grains in a circular motion to build high dunes of grain on a rotating plate. After the gentle process of depositing grains to the required diameter and height for the plate size, a silicone mixture is poured over the sugar dunes. When set, this forms an inverted mould, which is then finally cast in plaster, and slipcast with bone china by 1882.

After experimenting with an adapted record player he has re-created this motion using a lo-fi machine that slowly deposits sugar grains in a circular motion to build high dunes of grain on a rotating plate. After the gentle process of depositing grains to the required diameter and height for the plate size, a silicone mixture is poured over the sugar dunes. When set, this forms an inverted mould, which is then finally cast in plaster, and slipcast with bone china by 1882.

Along Shores of Time, tells a journey along the Nile. The majestic sail boat "Feddya" takes us on a soothing cruise through impressive ancient history, all along the shores of a river that gives life to nowadays Egyptians. A voyage of plenty, joy and excitement.

Inhale the fresh air, smell the refreshing scent of the green pine forests glowing above black volcano sands, no sound but the wind in the trees. A deep blue sky matches with the blue atlantic ocean far below. Epic volcanic trails lead trough an unique archaic landscape. Feel the elements. Be yourself, at the “Island in the Sky”.
This short film, a homage to the beautiful Island of La Palma - "Europe's Hawaii" - was like a never ending project for me. More than one and a half years of work.... photographing, processing, re-processing, selecting and de-selecting footage, some weeks filming…
I had certain pictures in mind - the scenes, locations, and moods. Every interesting place I had spotted during many stays on the Island while Hiking or guiding Bike Groups was considered.
As often as possible I returned to Palma to let the film get reality (http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2011/08/15/new-astro-timelapse-video-the-island-showcases-astronomy-haven/), but more than once got thrown back - bad weather, equipment malfunction or whatever.
I hiked up Volcanoes, stayed awake all night on stormy ridges, slept like a dead on the beach next morning. Pre-processed nights footage at the Apartment later, to validate what scenes worked, or needed to be repeated. Hurried back up the mountains before sunset for new setups. Finally got some rest and watched the clouds and stars move. Feeling small in the universe. And tired and dizzy, as well.
Night-Timelapse filming is an art, a struggle to live from, tough on your biorhythm – and needs a lot of passion, love and dedication. Passion for the work, love for nature and wilderness, being alone in the night. Back at the office in the timelapse studio it needs dedication and endurance in front of my workstations working trough the image data.
Which is the toughest part for me - I am not the office guy. I hate sitting in front of a Computer screen too much. And that is what you do with Timelapse. Way too much. After cleaning up the project, 906.65 GB and 83846 RAW images and movie-sequences remained for processing. And there is no automatism, each software at the workflow needs to be fed with each sequence separately, to deliver results...
On some key scenes of this film I have even worked over several months, trying different variations on color-reprocessing, iterating them many times. I am still not sure if they are good now. You judge.

I had certain pictures in mind - the scenes, locations, and moods. Every interesting place I had spotted during many stays on the Island while Hiking or guiding Bike Groups was considered.
As often as possible I returned to Palma to let the film get reality (http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2011/08/15/new-astro-timelapse-video-the-island-showcases-astronomy-haven/), but more than once got thrown back - bad weather, equipment malfunction or whatever.
I hiked up Volcanoes, stayed awake all night on stormy ridges, slept like a dead on the beach next morning. Pre-processed nights footage at the Apartment later, to validate what scenes worked, or needed to be repeated. Hurried back up the mountains before sunset for new setups. Finally got some rest and watched the clouds and stars move. Feeling small in the universe. And tired and dizzy, as well.
Night-Timelapse filming is an art, a struggle to live from, tough on your biorhythm – and needs a lot of passion, love and dedication. Passion for the work, love for nature and wilderness, being alone in the night. Back at the office in the timelapse studio it needs dedication and endurance in front of my workstations working trough the image data.
Which is the toughest part for me - I am not the office guy. I hate sitting in front of a Computer screen too much. And that is what you do with Timelapse. Way too much. After cleaning up the project, 906.65 GB and 83846 RAW images and movie-sequences remained for processing. And there is no automatism, each software at the workflow needs to be fed with each sequence separately, to deliver results...
On some key scenes of this film I have even worked over several months, trying different variations on color-reprocessing, iterating them many times. I am still not sure if they are good now. You judge.

Worked four months in the Moroccan art department for the Disney'/Bruckheimer film, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with Production Design by Wolf Kroeger. As Sr. Digital Set Designer, I was part of a small digital sets team that primarily focused on the virtual city of Alamut, later realized by visual effects firm MPC. White Sands
I had the pleasure of spending four days at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, USA back in April 2010. On the first two days the desert was blasted by incredible strong winds - strong enough to make walking difficult and to blast sand everywhere. The amount of sand in the air made for some fantastic images at sunset as the warm orange sun caught the sand in the air. I am still very much learning the ropes with video but finding it incredibly fun. For this exercise in cutting I wanted to time the imagery to the outstanding Hans Zimmer music. Inhale the fresh air, smell the refreshing scent of the green pine forests glowing above black volcano sands, no sound but the wind in the trees. A deep blue sky matches with the blue atlantic ocean far below. Epic volcanic trails lead trough an unique archaic landscape. Feel the elements. Be yourself, at the “Island in the Sky”. Worked four months in the Moroccan art department for the Disney'/Bruckheimer film, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with Production Design by Wolf Kroeger. As Sr. Digital Set Designer, I was part of a small digital sets team that primarily focused on the virtual city of Alamut, later realized by visual effects firm MPC.

This was my first trip to anywhere in the continent and it was eye opening. There are few things more thrilling than being woken up at 5:30am to the sounds of lions outside your tent. I will be back South Africa.

Time and Hyper-lapses were all shot on the Canon 5D and Sony A7s in raw, graded in Lightroom with LightroomTL, and further stabilized, motion tracked, and whatever else was needed in After Effects CC. Final edit was cut in Premiere Pro.

Town of Ghosts
Bodie is by far the best preserved ghost town in the United States.
Gold was discovered back in 1859 by William S Bodey and at its apex, the town had a population of 10,000 residents through the 1880's. Bodie was replete with the makings of old west folklore; gunfighters, saloons, miners, gambling halls and prostitutes, a rough place through and through. But the town's success didn't last and faded from 'glory' prior to World War I and was finally down for the count during WWII once all mining operations were halted due to the war effort. It was effectively abandoned with many of the structures retaining the inhabitants belongings because the roads out were toll and weight based; many people simply decided to leave their belongings behind to avoid large fees so the ghost town was born.
Today, after two fires, around 100 structures remain, (5% of the original town) some of which are filled with furniture, lined and matted with layer up on layer of rotting and sagging wallpaper. Some buildings are seemingly untouched time-capsules to the once treacherous lives of the miners and other inhabitants of the town. Kids toys sitting by the window, a ball peen hammer on the ground, strewn gears in a machine shop, and rusted hangers hanging in a closet.
Walking the grounds, particularly the cemetery, I was overcome with a sense of foreboding and the gentle but incessant march of time continuing on. The once important lives buried under a wood tombstone were all but forgotten and those now nameless people who were loved or loved others, brothers, fathers, sisters and mothers, almost never existed unless you look at the uneven ground at a certain angle in the perfect light.
We spent a week shooting with access to some of the interiors of the buildings, and the ability to shoot at night. Because it is located in the Sierra Neveda and its unique geography and high elevation, the weather was quite extreme and could change in a matter of minutes; most nights were very cold and the temperature often sat in the low teens and were mixed with snow, wind, and icey rain.
Bodie is kept in a state of "arrested decay" and hangs (sometimes literally) in a sort of desolated limbo, as the dry lumber, rusted nails, and worn masonry, slowly give into the sands of time.

I had the pleasure of spending four days at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, USA back in April 2010. On the first two days the desert was blasted by incredible strong winds - strong enough to make walking difficult and to blast sand everywhere. The amount of sand in the air made for some fantastic images at sunset as the warm orange sun caught the sand in the air.
I am still very much learning the ropes with video but finding it incredibly fun. For this exercise in cutting I wanted to time the imagery to the outstanding Hans Zimmer music. I wish I had a lot more footage. I end the video with some of my landscape stills from White Sands.

LS:N Global recently visited the studio of designer Philippe Malouin Malouin for an insight into the creation process behind the Dunes collection of tableware he is producing for 1882 Ltd’s exhibition during the London Design Festival.
Over the past 18 months he has been designing a bone china series for small, family-run company 1882, which is reviving bone china in Britain.
‘I think the process is always much more interesting than the product itself,’ Malouin tells LS:N Global. ‘Adapting materials and transformation techniques that are not meant to be used in certain applications.’
Fascinated by the beauty of the mundane, Malouin was inspired by the grace and movement of grains of sand flowing in an hourglass to demonstrate the passing of time. After experimenting with an adapted record player he has re-created this motion using a lo-fi machine that slowly deposits sugar grains in a circular motion to build high dunes of grain on a rotating plate. After the gentle process of depositing grains to the required diameter and height for the plate size, a silicone mixture is poured over the sugar dunes. When set, this forms an inverted mould, which is then finally cast in plaster, and slipcast with bone china by 1882.

Along Shores of Time, tells a journey along the Nile. The majestic sail boat "Feddya" takes us on a soothing cruise through impressive ancient history, all along the shores of a river that gives life to nowadays Egyptians. A voyage of plenty, joy and excitement.
This has been the traditional way of travel since the Pharaohs and now those days have been revived with modern comfort, five star service and luxurious accommodation.

Inhale the fresh air, smell the refreshing scent of the green pine forests glowing above black volcano sands, no sound but the wind in the trees. A deep blue sky matches with the blue atlantic ocean far below. Epic volcanic trails lead trough an unique archaic landscape. Feel the elements. Be yourself, at the “Island in the Sky”.
This short film, a homage to the beautiful Island of La Palma - "Europe's Hawaii" - was like a never ending project for me. More than one and a half years of work.... photographing, processing, re-processing, selecting and de-selecting footage, some weeks filming…
I had certain pictures in mind - the scenes, locations, and moods. Every interesting place I had spotted during many stays on the Island while Hiking or guiding Bike Groups was considered.
As often as possible I returned to Palma to let the film get reality (http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2011/08/15/new-astro-timelapse-video-the-island-showcases-astronomy-haven/), but more than once got thrown back - bad weather, equipment malfunction or whatever.
I hiked up Volcanoes, stayed awake all night on stormy ridges, slept like a dead on the beach next morning. Pre-processed nights footage at the Apartment later, to validate what scenes worked, or needed to be repeated. Hurried back up the mountains before sunset for new setups. Finally got some rest and watched the clouds and stars move. Feeling small in the universe. And tired and dizzy, as well.
Night-Timelapse filming is an art, a struggle to live from, tough on your biorhythm – and needs a lot of passion, love and dedication. Passion for the work, love for nature and wilderness, being alone in the night. Back at the office in the timelapse studio it needs dedication and endurance in front of my workstations working trough the image data.
Which is the toughest part for me - I am not the office guy. I hate sitting in front of a Computer screen too much. And that is what you do with Timelapse. Way too much. After cleaning up the project, 906.65 GB and 83846 RAW images and movie-sequences remained for processing. And there is no automatism, each software at the workflow needs to be fed with each sequence separately, to deliver results...
On some key scenes of this film I have even worked over several months, trying different variations on color-reprocessing, iterating them many times. I am still not sure if they are good now. You judge.

Este juego innagura la exitosa serie de Las Arenas del Tiempo (la serie tiene el mismo nombre que el juego) donde le sigue Prince of Persia: El Alma del Guerrero y Prince of Persia: Las Dos Coronas. Las Arenas del Tiempo es un juego de aventura/plataformas donde el Príncipe deberá conseguir su objetivo, esquivando trampas y enemigos.
Este walkthrough fue realizado sin intención de violar los derechos de autor, y está amparado en la Copyright Act de 1976, que en su sección 107, establece que si no se lucra con los contenidos expuestos, se hace un uso no-abusivo de los mismos y, por lo tanto, está permitida su reproducción.

Everyone's favourite gymnastic winner is back, and this time, he's sparing no expense to make sure the evil Vizier's reign of sand-based terror is stopped once and for all. Watch as our hero slaughters the Vizier's entire army, robs him of his precious metal, confiscates his valuable medical resources and steals all his ancient scrolls without even stamping his library card.
In this run, theenglishman (http://tasvideos.org/Theenglishman.html) achieves a self-defined full completion, which is everything you can acquire or do in the game without the use of a Nintendo GameCube/Game Boy Advance link cable. In the case of this game, it boils down to:
* Kill all 75 Sand Persians, which makes the Prince reach max stats (Level 30, 150 HP, 115 Attack, 90 Defence)
* Acquire all available consumables (9 Life Potions, 9 Sands of Time, 5 Antidotes - consumables can be used at any time)
* Collect Slowdown Ring and Freeze Ring
* Collect all tutorial Scrolls
* Reassemble all Medals and lower all the Medal Gates
