María Antonieta de las Nieves

María Antonieta Gómez Rodríguez (born 22 December 1950), more commonly known by her stage name María Antonieta de las Nieves, is a Mexican actress, comedienne, and singer. Her best remembered role is that of La Chilindrina, one of the main characters of the Televisa sitcom El Chavo del Ocho.

Early life

De las Nieves was born in La Lagunilla, a neighborhood of the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City. She is the youngest of the seven children of Estanislao Gómez Ocampo and Delfilia Rodríguez Ocampo, who owned a women's clothing store.

Career

She made her film debut in the fantasy film Pulgarcito (1957), starring María Elena Marqués, José Elías Moreno, and Cesáreo Quezadas in the title role. At age 8, she became a voice actress; she provided the Spanish voices for characters such as Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family, Eddie Munster from The Munsters, Batgirl from Batman, and Invisible Woman from Fantastic Four. Her first telenovela was Estafa de amor (1961), starring Carmen Montejo and Amparo Rivelles.

Carlos Villagrán

Carlos Villagrán Eslava (born 12 January 1944) is a Mexican actor, comedian, and former journalist best known for playing Quico in the Televisa sitcom El Chavo del Ocho and the Telerey sitcom ¡Ah qué Kiko!.

Life and career

He went on to write for a local newspaper in Mexico City. As a writer, he became friends with screenwriter and future co-star Rubén Aguirre. Aguirre was hired by Chespirito (Roberto Gómez Bolaños) to play Professor Jirafales in the upcoming El Chavo del Ocho Televisa television series. Aguirre held a party for family and friends at his house, and Villagrán impressed him after expanding his cheeks out of proportion during one of the party's comic steps. As a matter of a fact, that movement would later become a trademark of the character he'd play in El Chavo.

Aguirre recommended Villagrán to Chespirito, and Villagrán was given the Quico character in the show. He also appeared on Chespirito's other hit show, El Chapulín Colorado. Both of Chespirito's shows became major international hits all over Latin America and in the United States, Spain, and other countries. Villagrán acquired great fame with these shows.

Florinda Meza

Florinda Meza García (born 8 February 1949) is a Mexican actress, television producer, and screenwriter. She is best known as Doña Florinda in El Chavo del Ocho, La Chimoltrufia in Chespirito, and other various roles in El Chapulín Colorado.

Early life and career

Meza was born in Juchipila, Zacatecas, the daughter of Emilia García. She was cast by Roberto Gómez Bolaños to play "Doña Florinda" (and later "La Popis") in the Televisa sitcom El Chavo del Ocho, which became a major international hit. The show lasted from 1972 to 1980 (although the sketch would continue until 1992), during which she and Gómez Bolaños began a lifelong romance that never produced any children. During her tenure on the Chespirito television series, she was also known to have played Édgar Vivar's character "Botija"'s wife "María Expropiación Petronila Lascuráin y Torquemada", famously known as "La Chimoltrufia" Meza also participated prominently in Chespirito's other main sitcom, El Chapulín Colorado.

After production of Chespirito ended in 1995, she and Gómez Bolaños began touring extensively. They married in a civil ceremony on 19 November 2004 after a 27-year relationship.

Chespirito (TV series)

Chespirito performed a show called los Supergenios de la Mesa Cuadrada this show started in 1968 and ended in 1970 and Chespirito y la Mesa Cuadrada from 1970-1971, is a sketch comedy show that aired in Mexico in two periods, 1968–1973 and 1980-1994. The program aired various sketches of characters created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños; alongside Bolaños, other famous Mexican actors starred in the sketches. In the two periods, characters like El Chavo del Ocho, El Chapulín Colorado, Los Caquitos, Dr. Chapatín, Los Chifladitos, El Ciudadano Gómez, La Chicharra, Chespirito (character), Los Chiripiojos and the parodies of Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy starred in sketches 2–15 minutes long. The 1980-1994 period also featured special 40-minute episodes.

The show's first seasons featured a canned laugh track, but Bolaños made the then-controversial decision to drop it. Most presentations of the show include the announcer's warning that, out of respect for the audience's intelligence, there was no laugh track.

Chespirito

Roberto Gómez Bolaños (21 February 1929 – 28 November 2014), more commonly known by his pseudonym Chespirito, or "Little Shakespeare" was a Mexican screenwriter, actor, comedian, film director, television director, playwright, songwriter, and author. He is widely regarded as the most important Latin and Spanish-language humorist of all time.

He was internationally known for writing, directing, and starring in the Chespirito (1968), El Chavo del Ocho (1971), and El Chapulín Colorado (1972) television series. The character of El Chavo is one of the most iconic in the history of Latin American television, and El Chavo del Ocho continues to be immensely popular, with daily worldwide viewership averaging 91 million viewers per episode.

Early life

Roberto Gómez Bolaños was born in Mexico City. His father, Francisco Gómez Linares (c. 1892 – 7 September 1965), was a painter and a cartoonist from the city of Guanajuato, Guanajuato, who died of a stroke at the age of 43. His mother, Elsa Bolaños Cacho (4 April 1902 – 22 December 1968), was a bilingual secretary (fluent in both Spanish and English) from the city of Oaxaca, the youngest child of Ramón Bolaños Cacho, a military doctor, and his Zacatecas-born wife, María Aguilar. Mexican President Gustavo Díaz Ordaz Bolaños was his first cousin once removed. He also had a younger brother, Horacio Gómez Bolaños, who would portray the character Godínez in El Chavo del Ocho.
