Del P. Close (March 9, 1934 – March 4, 1999) was an American actor, writer, and teacher who coached many of the best-known comedians and comic actors of the late twentieth century. In addition to a prolific acting career in television and film, he was considered a premier influence on modern improvisational theater. Close co-authored the book Truth in Comedy, which outlines techniques now common in longform improvisation, and describes the overall structure of "Harold", which remains a common frame for longer improvisational scenes.
Close was born on March 9, 1934 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of an inattentive alcoholic father. He ran away from home at the age of 17 to work in a traveling side show, but returned to attend Kansas State University. At age 19 he performed in summer stock with the Belfry Players at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. At age 23 he became a member of the Compass Players in St. Louis. When most of the cast—including Mike Nichols and Elaine May—moved to New York City, Close followed. He developed a stand-up comedy act, appeared in the Broadway musical revue The Nervous Set, and performed briefly with an improv company in Greenwich Village with fellow Compass alumni Mark and Barbara Gordon. Close also worked with John Brent to record the classic beatnik satire album How to Speak Hip, a parody of language-learning tools that purported to teach listeners the secret language of the "hipster".

Miles Stroth is an American actor, comedian and teacher. He is best known for his work with Del Close and the iO Theater.
Miles Stroth was born in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where he played high-school basketball.
Stroth began studying improvisation in the fall of 1989 at The Second City in Chicago. In 1991, Stroth began studying long-form improvisation with Del Close and Charna Halpern at what was then called Improv Olympic, now the iO Theater in Chicago. Stroth has taught, performed and directed at iO ever since.
Stroth was a member of seminal improv team The Family, whose members included Matt Besser, Ali Faranahkian, Neil Flynn, Adam McKay and Ian Roberts. The Family, directed by Del Close, created improv forms called the Deconstruction and the Movie. Stroth worked with Close for eight years.
Stroth has performed in more than 1,000 long-form shows, and has created or had a hand in creating many improv forms that are performed around the country today. Among them are the Armando, the Deconstruction, the Movie, and La Ronde. Some of the improv teams and shows of which Stroth has been a part include The Three Mad Rituals, Dynamite Fun Nest, The Armando Diaz Theatrical Experience, Zumpf, ASSSSCAT, Heather and Miles and Mud.
Elizabeth Stamatina "Tina" Fey (/feɪ/; born May 18, 1970) is an American actress, comedian, writer, and producer. She is best known for her work on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live (1998-2006) , acclaimed for her impression of former Alaska Governor and 2008 Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, and for creating acclaimed series 30 Rock (2006–2013) and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015–present). She is also well known for appearing in films such as Mean Girls (2004), Baby Mama (2008), Date Night (2010), Muppets Most Wanted (2014), and Sisters (2015).
Tina Fey broke into comedy as a featured player in the Chicago-based improvisational comedy group The Second City. She then joined SNL as a writer, later becoming head writer and a performer, known for her position as co-anchor in the Weekend Update segment. In 2004, she co-starred in and wrote the screenplay for Mean Girls, which was adapted from the 2002 self-help book Queen Bees and Wannabes. After leaving SNL in 2006, she created the television series 30 Rock for Broadway Video, a situation comedy loosely based on her experiences at SNL. In the series, Fey portrays the head writer of a fictional sketch comedy series. In 2008, she starred in the comedy film Baby Mama, alongside former SNL co-star Amy Poehler. Fey next appeared in the 2010 comedy film Date Night and the animated film Megamind. In 2015, she created and produced the television series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, originally for NBC and eventually for Netflix.

Del Close is perhaps the least famous of the great comedy maestros of the latter half of the 20th century. The performers he worked with, directed, or taught at the Compass Players in Saint Louis, the Committee in San Francisco, and Second City and the ImprovOlympic in Chicago constitute a who's who—Elaine May, Mike Nichols, Shelly Berman, Fred Willard, Joe Flaherty, John Belushi, John Candy, Bill Murray, Mike Myers, Vince Vaughn, Tina Fey, and Stephen Colbert, to name only a handful. But his ultimate legacy might be theoretical: Close led the movement to reinvent improvisation and establish it as an art form. As he lay on his deathbed in a Chicago hospital in 1999, his friends flew in from around the country to throw him one last birthday party. Video from ChicagoReader.com.
This is an extremely rare video improv by Del Close. It was shot specifically for a show (The TV Dinner Hour) by the comedy troupe New Age Vaudeville at CrossCurrents Theater in Chicago back in 1987. This is part of an 8 minute improv based on TV evangelists of the 80's. It was shot by director Peter Neville. Stay Tuned for more!
I learned about a man that inspired many others. A geek in his own craft. While Del Close never was as famous as John Belushi, Bill Murray, Jon Favreau, Tina Fey or many others, but if it wasn't for Close, some of those names might never have surfaced. I talk with Todd Bieber, Matt Besser and Matt Walsh about this great comedy geek and how he changed the genre. To all the killers and the hundred dollar billers
To real niggaz, who ain't got no feelings
To all the killers and the hundred dollar billers
To real niggaz to real niggaz
K B X, yo, yo
Who wants to test the untestable?
Infrared nine at your spine, leave you vegetable
Where the bullet not
Don't get caught in drop when the light change
Left that light frame like eject on the flight plane
Peace to thug niggaz on this shit that we on
Get your heat on, guzzle down that Bacardi le-mon
Fuck a don, I'm on symotic over your block shit
Pop shit, watch the glock spit, lay you like carpets
I roll with niggaz that sniff coke and tote guns
And take funds, whether number ones or sulibate nuns
Shit's official, fuck five mics, it's five pistols
Never miss you, penetrate your body tissue
Keep you runnin' like runner, sweatin' like summer
Then someone unexpectedly guns ya from the Tididel Hummer
Beat that ass like drama, fade 'em out like Donna Summa
Forever like Wu-Tang, my crew bang like accidents
For real niggaz who feel this is on some numb shit
Gun shit, peace to my jail niggaz who run shit
Corner thugs buggin' on birds, we serve 'em purpose
The same forty five in your mouth, stuck up, you're worthless
Extreme measures, illegal treasures, plus the safe scavengers
Pepper mace in your face, purple haze, lace hash from a rocko burnin'
We on the block earnin' thousands from PJ's to housings
Diggin' pockets, rip trousers, spark a dutch, start a forest fire
Tap, drop a diamond, informant niggaz walk police wires
We on some eighty six, stick-up figure impulse
The last days are crime, son, take it as an insult
To all the killers and the hundred dollar billers
To real niggaz, who ain't got no feelings
To all the killers and the hundred dollar billers
To real niggaz to real niggaz
To all the killers and the hundred dollar billers
To real niggaz, who ain't got no feelings
To all the killers and the hundred dollar billers
To real niggaz to real niggaz
We leave 'em rotten just for plottin' my squadron
Get no part of this, we robbin', your position
On the mission to target, is you bitch made?
My army brigade got the plan made
We rippin' thru they assholes with the triple-edged blade
The illest executioners droppin' this with peace to the bottomless
It's symbolic to monogamous hollow tips
Rippin' thru they vests for respect, nevertheless to impress
We come in vain with some envious techs
My enemies get viciously torn up by my cavalry
That's constantly shootin' for this life of equality
Fatality, supreme victory, some war stories
Misery bring treachery, so now I kill you slowly, fuckin' phony
Receiver of many, I come with plenty
A poison for they belly, into hell is where I send the enemies
If you can stand the heat, step in the flame
And get your fame put to shame 'cuz you lame
Leavin' your bitch rappers slain, truly insane
You leave this earth with my scars, sun, moon and stars
Is what you see when my seven half mind spars
Yo, yo, yo, desert eagle at your cerebral
Keepin' you civilized the thug way
Your mug stay the same way the slug lay
Done it and seen it thru these blunted contacts
Stolen ax, buy new gats, hot gats, serial scratch
Like fleas, eight million MC's drop to your knees like church mast
Play fast, full mission from the stash
Dirty burners blazin' at night, we got the ave sewn
Chrome, nickel-plated, forty four murder, dead zone
Police tracin' prints, stolen cars with tints
Bum bitches boostin' gear, sellin' clothes for cents
Sharp razors make faces ugly, snatch a diamond, lovely
Drinkin' Valentine ghetto bubbly
To all the killers and the hundred dollar billers
To real niggaz, who ain't got no feelings
To all the killers and the hundred dollar billers
To real niggaz to real niggaz
To all the killers and the hundred dollar billers
To real niggaz, who ain't got no feelings
