Here's a lens that I've been asked to review many times, a lens that helped make Samyang famous. It's a quarter of the price of Canon and Nikon's alternative 14mm lenses. Does it live up to its reputation, and really hit the mark in image quality?

Hello guys, and welcome to a new video, now about the affordable ultra wide angle lens Samyang 14mm, also called Rokinon 14mm and Bower 14mm! There is a also a Cine version of this lens with declicked aperture and follow focus gears on the lens itself :)
Currently I’m using the Panasonic Gh4 with the Metabone speedbooster, and the Sigma 18-35mm with aperture f1.8. I wanted to use my Speedbooster to get extra light, so therefore I was looking for a full frame lens or a aps-c lens that would fit the speedbooster. I ended up with the Samyang 14mm with aperture f2.8. It costs $320 and is available for both Canon and Nikon cameras. It's a manual lens, so maybe not the best solution for still photography. For video however, it's a great lens.
After some tests, I have concluded these pros and cons:
Pros: The lens is sharp even with a wide open aperture. It’s fast (Aperture F2.8) and even faster with the speedbooster (Aperture f2.0). It feels robust, and the focus ring works smoothly. The price is affordable.
Cons: No autofocus, no image stabilization and the aperture has to be controlled from the lens only. You need to turn the focus ring several times to focus from infinity to macro.

ABOUT THE ADAPTERS AND MOUNTS:
● For mirrorless: The Canon or Nikon mount versions of Samyang lenses are better because they are more compact (especially if you have more than one lens) and allows you to use various adapters like internal nd filters, tilt shift adapters, filter-slot adapters, lens turbo adapters, helicoid focusing adapters, etc. Buying the Micro Four Thirds (Panasonic/Olympus) or Sony E mount versions of Samyang lenses gives you much bulkier lenses which cannot use any of the super-useful adapters listed above.
● For crop sensors cameras: It works, but not what I would choose. You can get many other lenses which are far better for crop cameras, even the 12mm from Samyang.

This is my review of the Rokinon 14mm f2.8 ultra wide angle lens!
Watch til the end for some photo and video samples.
I used this lens for over half a year with my Nikon D600 DSLR.
I have to say, this lens is definitely one of the best lenses that you can buy for the price. It's only $300!! Compared to the Canon or Nikon 14mm, which are well over $1200, this Rokinon lens actually performs very well.

Affordable wide angle lens [Samyang 14mm review]
Hello guys, and welcome to a new video, now about the affordable ultra wide angle lens Samyang 14mm, also called Rokinon 14mm and Bower 14mm! There is a also a Cine version of this lens with declicked aperture and follow focus gears on the lens itself :) Currently I’m using the Panasonic Gh4 with the Metabone speedbooster, and the Sigma 18-35mm with aperture f1.8. I wanted to use my Speedbooster to get extra light, so therefore I was looking for a full frame lens or a aps-c lens that would fit the speedbooster. I ended up with the Samyang 14mm with aperture f2.8. It costs $320 and is available for both Canon and Nikon cameras. It's a manual lens, so maybe not the best solution for still photography. Currently I’m using the Panasonic Gh4 with the Metabone speedbooster, and the Sigma 18-35mm with aperture f1.8. I wanted to use my Speedbooster to get extra light, so therefore I was looking for a full frame lens or a aps-c lens that would fit the speedbooster. I ended up with the Samyang 14mm with aperture f2.8. It costs $320 and is available for both Canon and Nikon cameras. It's a manual lens, so maybe not the best solution for still photography. For video however, it's a great lens.
After some tests, I have concluded these pros and cons:
Pros: The lens is sharp even with a wide open aperture. It’s fast (Aperture F2.8) and even faster with the speedbooster (Aperture f2.0). It feels robust, and the focus ring works smoothly. The price is affordable.
Cons: No autofocus, no image stabilization and the aperture has to be controlled from the lens only. You need to turn the focus ring several times to focus from infinity to macro.

ABOUT THE ADAPTERS AND MOUNTS:
● For mirrorless: The Canon or Nikon mount versions of Samyang lenses are better because they are more compact (especially if you have more than one lens) and allows you to use various adapters like internal nd filters, tilt shift adapters, filter-slot adapters, lens turbo adapters, helicoid focusing adapters, etc. Buying the Micro Four Thirds (Panasonic/Olympus) or Sony E mount versions of Samyang lenses gives you much bulkier lenses which cannot use any of the super-useful adapters listed above.
● For crop sensors cameras: It works, but not what I would choose. You can get many other lenses which are far better for crop cameras, even the 12mm from Samyang.

This is my review of the Rokinon 14mm f2.8 ultra wide angle lens!

I used this lens for over half a year with my Nikon D600 DSLR.
I have to say, this lens is definitely one of the best lenses that you can buy for the price. It's only $300!! Compared to the Canon or Nikon 14mm, which are well over $1200, this Rokinon lens actually performs very well.
