The Lobster is a 2015 film directed by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos in his English language feature film debut. Set in a dystopian near-future, the film tells the story of a city where singles are given 45 days to find a romantic partner before they are turned into an animal. It stars Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, and Léa Seydoux. The film is internationally co-produced by companies from Ireland, the United Kingdom, Greece, France and the Netherlands.
It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and won the Jury Prize. It was shown in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
According to the rules of The City, single people are taken to The Hotel where they are given 45 days to find a partner. Those who fail are turned into an animal of their choice and released into the forest. Masturbation is banned but sexual stimulation by the hotel maid, without orgasm, is mandatory. The guests attend dances and watch propaganda extolling the virtues of partnership. They can extend their stay by hunting escapees, The Loners, with tranquillizer guns in The Woods. Each captured Loner affords an extra day to find a partner.
Clawed lobsters comprise a family (Nephropidae, sometimes also Homaridae) of large marine crustaceans.
They have long bodies with muscular tails, and live in crevices or burrows on the sea floor. Three of their five pairs of legs have claws, including the first pair, which are usually much larger than the others. Highly prized as seafood, lobsters are economically important, and are often one of the most profitable commodities in coastal areas they populate. Commercially important species include two species of Homarus from the northern Atlantic Ocean, and scampi – the Northern Hemisphere genus Nephrops and the Southern Hemisphere genus Metanephrops. Although several other groups of crustaceans have the word "lobster" in their names, the unqualified term "lobster" generally refers to the clawed lobsters of the family Nephropidae. Clawed lobsters are not closely related to spiny lobsters or slipper lobsters, which have no claws (chelae), or to squat lobsters. The closest living relatives of clawed lobsters are the reef lobsters and the three families of freshwater crayfish.
Colin James Farrell (born 31 May 1976) is an Irish actor. He first appeared on the BBC's TV drama Ballykissangel in 1998, made his film debut in the Tim Roth-directed drama The War Zone a year later and was discovered by Hollywood when Joel Schumacher cast him in the lead in his war drama Tigerland (2000). He then starred in Schumacher's psychological thriller Phone Booth (2002) and the American thrillers S.W.A.T. and The Recruit (both 2003), establishing his international box-office appeal. During that time, he also appeared in Steven Spielberg’s science fiction thriller Minority Report (2002) and as the villain Bullseye in the Daredevil superhero film (2003). After starring in the independent films Intermission (2003) and A Home at the End of the World (2004) he headed Oliver Stone’s biopic Alexander (2004) and Terrence Malick's The New World (2005).
Work in Michael Mann’s Miami Vice, the adaptation of John Fante's Ask the Dust (both 2006) and Woody Allen’s Cassandra's Dream (2007) followed, underscoring Farrell's popularity among Hollywood writers and directors; however, it was for his role in Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges (2008) that he received a Golden Globe Award. In recent years, he co-starred in the comedy-horror film Fright Night (2011) and the sci-fi action film Total Recall (2012), both remakes, and McDonagh's second feature, the black comedy crime film Seven Psychopaths (2012). Farrell also starred with Noomi Rapace in the Niels Arden Oplev-directed action film Dead Man Down, and as Travers Goff in the period drama Saving Mr. Banks (both in 2013) about the author of Mary Poppins. In 2014, Farrell starred as Peter Lake in the supernatural fable Winter's Tale (2014), an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Mark Helprin. In 2015, he starred as Detective Ray Velcoro in the second season of HBO's True Detective, alongside Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams.
Rachel Hannah Weisz (/ˈvaɪs/ VYS; born 7 March 1970) is an English film and theatre actress as well as a former fashion model who holds both British and American citizenship.
Weisz began her acting career at Trinity Hall, Cambridge in the early 1990s, then started working in television, appearing in the detective drama Inspector Morse, the British mini-series Scarlet and Black and the television film Advocates II. She made her film debut in the science fiction movie Death Machine (1994). Her first Hollywood appearance came in the action film Chain Reaction (1996), opposite Keanu Reeves and Morgan Freeman.
Next, she appeared as Evelyn Carnahan-O'Connell in the adventure films The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001). Other notable films featuring Weisz are the war film Enemy at the Gates (2001), opposite Jude Law; the comedy-drama About a Boy (2002), opposite Hugh Grant; the supernatural action-thriller Constantine (2005), pairing her once again with Keanu Reeves; and in the Darren Aronofsky-directed romantic drama The Fountain, opposite Hugh Jackman. For her supporting role in the drama thriller The Constant Gardener (2005), opposite Ralph Fiennes, she received an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors' Guild award. In 2006, Weisz received the BAFTA Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year. She played the Wicked Witch of the East, Evanora, in the fantasy adventure Oz the Great and Powerful (2013). In 2015, she appeared in two films that played at the Cannes Film Festival, Youth and The Lobster.

He really believes to handle people and things around him with a sort of 'telekinesis', like a lobster in her aquarium looking at the world around her. An analysis of my favorite film of the year "The Lobster". The Lobster is a 2015 absurdist dystopian comedy-drama film directed, co-written, and co-produced by Yorgos Lanthimos, co-produced by Ceci Dempsy, Ed Guiney, and Lee Magiday, and co-written by Efthymis Philippou. In the film's setting, singles are given 45 days to find a romantic partner or otherwise be turned into animals. It stars Colin Farrell as a newly-single man trying to find someone so he can remain human, and Rachel Weisz as a woman with whom he attempts to form a relationship. David discovers that his wife has left him for another man, and is escorted to a hotel. The hotel manager reveals that singles have 45 days to find a partner, or they will be transformed into an animal; David's dog is his brother, for example. Da...
"The Lobster" is a 2015 dark comedy which considers the role of relationships in society. This analysis will explore some of the larger themes at work in Yorgos Lanthimos' critically acclaimed 7th film. Note: There is an error at 6:23 which states that "David escapes the forest society which is populated by people who have escaped the hotel". This should read as ""David escapes the hotel and joins the forest society". I apologize for the error and any confusion it may cause. The Ark is an ephemeral, site-specific audiovisual installation that took place in the ethnobotanical garden of Oaxaca, Mexico, during the first edition of Proyecta Oaxaca, a new festival dedicated to digital art. Exceptionnaly, the garden was open at night, and the visitors were invited to walk down the narrow paths that led to the cactus grove standing at its very heart. In a poetic approach, The Ark gives voice to the plants which are turned into abstract characters: an unpredictable choir, and the beating heart of the garden. Telling their story and revealing their imaginary nature, The Ark is a mise en abîme of the course. Like a lobster I can swim
And can grow another limb
Where a powerless stump you saw
I have grown a powerful claw
Where you thought me safely drowned
In the depths I swim around
Thither when you too descend
