Danny Gatton (September 4, 1945 – October 4, 1994) was an American guitarist who fused rockabilly, jazz, and country to create his own distinctive style. When Rolling Stone magazine selected the 100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time in 2003, senior editor David Fricke ranked Gatton 63rd on his ballot. On May 26, 2010, Gibson.com ranked Gatton as the 27th best guitarist of all time.
Gatton was born in Washington, D.C. on September 4, 1945. His father, Daniel W. Gatton Sr., was a rhythm guitarist known for his unique percussive style, who left his musical career to raise his family in a more stable profession. The younger Gatton grew up to share his father's passion for the instrument.
Danny Gatton began his career playing in bands while still a teenager. He began to attract wider interest in the 1970s while playing guitar and banjo for the group Liz Meyer & Friends. He made his name as a performer in the Washington, DC, area during the late 1970s and 1980s, both as a solo performer and with his Redneck Jazz Explosion, in which he traded licks with virtuoso pedal steel player Buddy Emmons over a tight bass-drums rhythm that drew from blues, country, bebop, and rockabilly influences. He also backed Robert Gordon and Roger Miller. He contributed a cover of Apricot Brandy, a song by Elektra Records-supergroup Rhinoceros, to the 1990 compilation album Rubáiyát.

Joe Bonamassa (born May 8, 1977) is an American blues rock musician, singer and songwriter.
Bonamassa opened for B.B. King when he was only 12 years old. In the last 13 years Bonamassa has put out 15 solo albums through his independent record label, J&R Adventures, of which eleven have reached #1 on the Billboard Blues charts.
He has played alongside such artists as Stephen Stills, Eric Clapton, Blondie Chaplin, Foreigner, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood, Warren Haynes, and Derek Trucks among others. His career highlights include performances at the Royal Albert Hall and a Grammy Award nomination in 2013. In addition to his music career, Joe Bonamassa runs a nonprofit organization called the "Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation" whose mission it is to further music education by funding scholarships and providing music education resources to schools in need.
Joe Bonamassa was born in New Hartford, New York. He started playing guitar at age four. His father was an avid music fan and exposed Bonamassa to records by Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. Joe was very inspired by these British blues rock records. When he was 12 years old, he had his own band called Smokin' Joe Bonamassa. The band gigged around western New York and Pennsylvania, cities such as Scranton and Buffalo, on weekends since Joe had school on weekdays. Bonamassa played a crimson 1972 Fender Stratocaster he called "Rosie", which his father had bought in Utica, New York.

In the pantheon of guitar greats, few hold the status of the late Danny Gatton, whose style and technique defied description. The master would have turned 71 today, and the list of his disciples is long. In a VG exclusive video, Joe Bonamassa renders a few licks (on a ’53 Tele, no less!) in Danny's style then offers a heartfelt tribute to one his earliest – and greatest – influences. This is a classic Charlie Christian tune done at high speed and the great players here seem to be trying to outdo each other. It is a good thing Danny went last as he is on fire and even does his beer bottle slide at this pace! This song is on his "Portraits" CD but live video clips of it are rare. Enjoy and marvel at his talent
K. Nelson shot this original video of Danny Gatton and The Funhouse. It features Danny Gatton on guitar, Barry Hart on Drums, John Previti on Bass and Chris Battistone on trumpet. The song is "Oleo". This group is often referred to as Funhouse I. This excerpt features a great solo by Danny Gatton. There is a funny moment when Danny's cigarette finishes burning just as the solo is done. The team behind "The Humbler - Danny Gatton" is thrilled that K. Nelson has donated the use of this original material to our feature documentary!! https://www.thehumblermovie.com

This came from a benefit for drummer Dave Elliott. Dave was going through a double hip replacement (sounds appropriate, doesn’t it? :D) Other performers included Bill Kirchen’s Too Much Fun; Big Joe Maher and the Dynaflows; Billy Hancock; and Tom Principato. (Kirchen was with Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen; Danny played rhythm guitar on their album "Flying Dreams.") I cobbled this together from 3 clips; “Shotgun” from this gig is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb4iZvY5-p8 I’m not positive the two clips are from the same night, given the different drummer. But so what? Any Danny is good Danny.

Danny Gatton w/John Garr Band on the Saturday Morning Show w/Interview Nashville TN Blues Newburgh
Video Culture, Inc. interviewed Danny Gatton at his farm in Newburg, MD, May 1990. I asked him to tell me about his new guitar...
Danny Gatton: “ Look at all the colors of the world, why do you have to play just one thing. You know, I had a terrible time trying to get a major record deal because I played so many different things. They said you had to be categorized into one thing. Why? There is more than one color in nature. There is more than one radio station on the radio. Not everyone listens to one thing all the time.”
Danny Gatton is playing live at a club called Gallaghers on February 19, 1988. In this excerpt, Danny is accompanied by John Previti on bass and Barry Hart on drums. This medley of songs includes "Fingers on Fire". Kinloch Nelson, a talented guitarist in his own right, recorded the video. Part of this recording will be included in our feature documentary about Danny Gatton. Often called "The World's Greatest Unknown Guitarist" - Danny Gatton was "The Humbler".
Danny Gatton owns "The Humbler" but he shares "The World's Greatest Unknown Guitarist" with Roy Buchanan. Here is an excerpt from Danny doing his "Funky Momma" at the Flood Zone in May 1990. Bill Kirchen is also on guitar, Brother Dave Elliott on Drums, John Previti on Bass and Bruce Swaim on tenor sax.
"The Humbler - Danny Gatton" feature documentary sends Big Thanks To ALL Our Supporters!! This project will be out to Festivals this year! It will be fun to see it on the Big Screen! Who is Danny Gatton? If you are a guitarist you probably already know. Danny's mastery of blues, jazz, rock, country, bluegrass and rockabilly so overwhelmed other guitarists, they called him "The Humbler". Though he never got the accolades he deserved in his short life, Danny Gatton has often been called "The World's Greatest Unknown Guitarist". Our film is the first in-depth exploration of the life, music and legacy of a troubled genius.

From the same session as the Farewell Blues clip. Here, Gatton is discussing how he taught himself Banjo finger roll patterns on the chrome rings of his Daddy's Chevy when the Gatton men went on fishing trips during his childhood. Danny would hang his right arm out the window and practice the rolls on the drive out to the various Fishing spots. He then retunes his guitar to open G and demonstrates some Banjo pickin'. Gatton CNC Build Part 2 - Planning for a CNC More down here ↓↓↓ Click SHOW MORE! Welcome to Part 2 of my Gatton CNC Build Series. In this video, we’ll discuss planning for a CNC, whether you’re buying or building one. We’ll take a short look at the financial side, then spend some time discussing some things to take into consideration when planning for the physical size of your CNC. I’ll then take you through my process for figuring out how big to build my Gatton CNC. I know that it’s a long video, and I do apologize for that. Hopefully you’ll get some good information from it. As usual, if you have any comments or questions, please put ‘em in the comment section below. Thanks for watching!
