Struan (Scottish Gaelic: An Sruthan) is a small village situated on the west coast of the island of Skye, on the shores of Loch Beag, itself an inlet of Loch Harport. "Struan" is the anglicized form (and approximate pronunciation) of the Scottish Gaelic word sruthan, meaning "small stream", or the flow at the point where a spring appears.
It has a population of around 300. While there are four different Protestant denominations represented in the area, church attendance has declined dramatically, and Sabbath keeping is largely forgotten.
The local economy, like most of Skye, is heavily supported by tourism. Fishing, crofting and to a lesser extent, large-scale farming also contribute. Struan has a small local grocery shop, four churches, a petrol station, an outdoor shop and a primary school. Buried in the old graveyard are the climber, J. Norman Collie and his longtime Skye guide, John Mackenzie of Sconser.
Near the village stands Dun Beag (Historic Scotland; no entrance charge), one of the best-preserved Iron Age brochs in Scotland. The small settlement of Ullinish is about 1 km to the west and Bracadale is just a few hundred metres to the east.
Struan Rodger (born 18 September 1946) is a British actor who has appeared widely in a range of supporting roles. He appeared briefly in Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe? in 1978 but his first major film role was as Eric Liddell's friend and running coach Sandy McGrath, in the Oscar-winning 1981 film, Chariots of Fire. His later films included Diamond Skulls (1989), Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), The Madness of King George (1994), The Innocent Sleep (1996) and Stardust (2007).
Rodger is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Barbara Flynn's husband in the television detective series Chandler & Co. Rodger had a recurring role on Rumpole of the Bailey as Detective Inspector Brush, a police detective noted for what Rumpole perceives as flagrant abuses of the law. He is also the actor who provided the voice for the Doctor Who character Face of Boe in the stories "New Earth" and "Gridlock".
Rodger has also appeared on television in episodes of Miss Marple, Maigret, Midsomer Murders and Look and Read, as well as portraying Bonnie Prince Charlie in "Through a Glass, Darkly," a season four episode of Highlander: The Series.
The three-eyed raven is a recurring character in the first, third and fourth seasons. He debuts in person in the fourth season, portrayed by Struan Rodger. Under the guise of a raven, he appears in Bran Stark's dreams, following his fall and injury, prompting his quest beyond the Wall and guiding him to the cave in which he resides in his real human form.

Game of Thrones is bringing in the big gun for Bran's upcoming storyline. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed veteran actor Max von Sydow has joined the HBO hit as the mysterious Three-Eyed Raven. The character was last seen in the season four finale, when Bran and his pals met the mysterious and powerful character, played in that episode by Struan Rodger. Von Sydow's lengthy screen resume dates back to 1949, with him earning Oscar nominations for 1987's Pelle erobreren and 2011's Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. Von Sydow's casting follows that of Deadwood alum Ian McShane, who is playing a mystery role. http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/thr/television/~3/9oWlbOvKAPU/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

Tour Scotland Winter video shot today of part of the drive to Struan near Blair Castle, Perthshire, Scotland. Clan Donnachaidh, sometimes known as Clan Robertson, is a Scottish clan. William Forbes Skene, Historiographer of Royal of Scotland, wrote in 1837 that: " the Robertsons of Struan are unquestionably the oldest family in Scotland, being the sole remaining branch of that Royal House of Atholl which occupied the throne of Scotland during the 11th and 12th centuries. " Struan was a traditional Scottish boy's name, commonly given to the chief of the Robertson Clan or Duncan Clan.
