Rwanda: Mukura Victory - Rayon Sports 1:1 16.12.2016 A really bizarre story is coming out of Rwanda today. There was controversy in the recent game between Mukura Victory and Rayon Sports when Mukura’s striker Moussa Camara did something that saw him accused of witchcraft. With his team trailing 1-0, he hit the crossbar with a header. Clearly frustrated with how things were going, Camara then did something strange. Footage shows him running up the opposition goal and putting an object against the post. This isn’t well received. Rayon players go crazy and begin swinging kicks at the striker. Eventually, things calm down and the game resumes. Minutes later, Camara equalises. The Mirror reports that the incident has caused the Rwandan FA to change a few rules. Any player believed to be par...

Just 20 years ago, genocide left Rwanda's economy in ruins. But today, the economy is growing, thanks in part to home-grown entrepreneurship.
Following the merger of the Kigali Free Trade Zone and Kigali Industrial Park projects, the idea of the Special Economic Zones in Rwanda came about. Rwanda has been ranked 46th out of 189 economies surveyed, moving up two positions globally in the 2015 World Bank's Doing Business rankings. The 2015 release is the 12th edition of a series of annual reports that investigate the regulations that enhance business activity and those that constrain. In today's edition we focus on that report, concerns in the business environment here in Rwanda, and what is being done to ensure this economy moves higher in subsequent rankings.
The Global financial crisis has seen many investors move their portfolios to Sub-Saharan Africa as it has been seen as ten of the fifteen fastest growing economies. Broadcaster CNBC Africa was no different as they moved their East Africa regional Headquarters to Kigali, Rwanda.
Rwanda’s recovery, post the 1994 genocide has been hailed as a global example of how a country can rise from the ashes to build a vibrant, forward looking economy. Rwanda has been ranked highly in doing business indicators covering economic and human development. Strides that have seen the country sustain an 8.8% gross domestic product growth compared to Kenya’s –East Africa largest economy- 5.4 percent growth in 2015.
Rwanda is the world's first country getting power from a lake - and averting a natural catastrophe at the same time. Rwanda's Lake Kivu contains a dangerously high concentration of methane gas due to nearby volcanic activity. Extracting the gas could save the lake and provide an economic opportunity for the electricity-starved country. More from DW's business desk: http://www.dw.com/en/top-stories/business/s-1431

Only a select number of participants who have previously signed up are made privy to the location the day of the dinner, and generally converge in an iconic city location. UMUGANURA AND FESPAD 2016 CELEBRATION IN RWANDA Umuganura/National Harvest ceremony was since the ninth century; Rwanda’s core practice in maintaining the country’s steadfast culture, until it was abolished by colonialists in 1925 leading to the exile of Gashamura ka Rukangirashyamba, then chief in charge of Umuganura celebrations to the neighbouring country – Burundi. It was one of the most important ceremonies celebrated by Rwandans at the beginning of every harvest season, as an occasion of appraising the country’s achievements in terms of harvest both at the kingdom and family levels. It served a very crucial role in building the Rwandan unity, as well as a strong relationship with God through the traditional religious practices performed by the King or Queen mother during the festivi...

Rwanda's healthcare system is one of the most advanced in Africa. Almost everyone in the small African state has access to medical care thanks to a network of almost 50 district hospitals and some 200 health centers. And a general health insurance scheme means that most people can afford it, too. But some of the care provided is only possible together with international partners. Ben Franklin famously said, at the end of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, that "if we don't hang together, we shall surely hang separately." That lesson of "we're all in it together" wasn't lost on Rwanda. Rwanda - a small nation in central Africa - is one of the poorest and most underdeveloped nations in the world. Nearly 60 percent of Rwandans live below the national poverty line - and in Rwanda, with an average income of just $560 per year per family - less than $2 a day - being in poverty meant bringing home and living on as little as ten cents a day. From 1990 to 1994 - the nation had a civil war - and in April of 1994 - the Rwandan Genocide began - lasting for 3 months - and taking the lives of nearly 1 million Rwandans. And yet - despite going through a civil war and a genoc...
The public health transformation in Rwanda is striking for those with memories of the massacre of nearly one million people 20 years ago. International aid groups were initially wary about getting involved, but Rwanda took ownership of its own development and built a new health care system. Special correspondent Fred de Sam Lazaro explores how they've worked to overcome a shortage of doctors.
Rwanda has made drastic improvements in health care thanks to new hospitals and a grassroots approach. But even the best facilities have limitations. Ed Robbins, a freelance videojournalist for TIME and IRP, reported from Rwanda on an IRP Gatekeeper Editors trip.
The first World Health Organisation Africa Forum has officially kicked off in Kigali, Rwanda. Participants include ministers of health and finance from various African countries, as well as UN and intergovernmental agencies, academics and civil society organisations. The regional director for the W.H.O. has stressed the need for different sectors to work together to provide accessible, affordable healthcare for all on the continent.
