In 1997 I bought an inexpensive video camera to carry with me on my travels around the Great Lakes. Here's some completely non-professional footage of vessels -- many of which have since been scrapped, renamed or sidelined. Enjoy this 10-minute trip down memory lane, and watch for Volume II soon. Fatigue was shot on super 16mm and made in true 'guerrilla' style. It premiered at the Welsh International Film Festival and was a 'Film Four Audience Award' finalist. It was short listed in competition (New British Talent) at Raindance Film Festival London 2002, won Great Lakes Film Festival 2003 in North America (Best Narrative Feature) has travelled to numerous festivals around the world. Please view other 'Fatigue' documentaries here: http://www.youtube.com/user/fatiguemovie A 'Variety' review of 'Fatigue', review by KEN EISNER. 'An artfully designed neo-noir knockoff, "Fatigue" distinguishes itself with a tough look and a convincingly bad attitude. Knocking around in different cuts for more than three years, won a feature award at last fall's Great Lakes fest, and could further exh...
This video was given to me by my recruiter nearlyt 8 years ago before I went in in 2001. I don't believe this video is still being distributed, it has been replaced with a fresh, new, modern version. It is a nice accurate depiction of navy bootcamp and will give anyone a good idea of what to expect. For some of us veterans, it's nice to look back and reflect. Personally, I enjoyed Bootcamp. If given the opportunity to go back, I would go back to bootcamp in a heartbeat! This video is from August, 2000 "Let the Journey Begin"
Old video of me. Sorry for bad film quality, it was filmed off the tv in my room using my digital camera. In this video, I was 10 years old. 2nd competition ever. I got 2nd place. A week later I took 3rd place. That entire competition season was dedicated to my late friend Victoria D'Agostino, who passed away November 30, 2002, she was 8 years old. This was her old music (she was still living when I first started skating to this piece). RIP. I love you, never forgotten.
Great Lakes formed in Athens, Georgia in 1996. Founded around the songwriting partnership of Ben Crum and lyricist Dan Donahue, with multi-instrumentalist Jamey Huggins and a rotating cast of several other players. They released an eponymous debut in 2000. Over time Huggins began to switch his focus to other projects, and Crum and Donahue relocated to Brooklyn, releasing The Distance Between in 2002. Diamond Times appeared in 2006. In 2009 Donahue moved back to Athens, leaving Crum to carry on in New York. 2010's Ways of Escape is the first of their records to feature Crum as the primary songwriter. With its frank and personal folk- and country-influenced songs, the record has a bare emotional style that's far from the innocent optimism and lighthearted psychedelia of the band's early reco...
During the bitter winter of the Battle of the Bulge, an American GI receives a descriptive, heartfelt letter from his wife. Meanwhile, a German sniper creeps up on him and has him in his sights. Inspired by filmmaker Mark Kirkland's late step father, 1st Lt Omer Dwight "Whit" Whitwell, who served as a combat rifle platoon leader during WWII. Shot with a 60 year old Eclair Cameflex using vintage lenses and Eastman Kodak Color Negative 35mm Film. The story behind "A Letter From Home" by Mark Kirkland The source of my story began when I was a kid listening to my late stepfather, Omer Dwight "Whit" Whitwell, tell tales of being a 21 year old 1st Lt. rifle platoon leader (K-320th, 35th Division) during WWII. He said officers wouldn't wear their silver bars in combat because it marked them...

This is part one of what took place at this last year's Great Lakes Regionals when North Park advanced for the first time since its' creation in 2002 to the second stage of the UPA series. Excuses aside (Injuries, wind, and top players in absence), we fought as best we could and we had our opportunities. Let this be a lesson North Park. Let this be something we do not forget.
Uploaded on Jul 23, 2013 The Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal is an artificial waterway on the southwest shore of Lake Michigan, in East Chicago, Indiana which connects the Grand Calumet River to Lake Michigan. It consists of two branch canals, the 1.25 mile (2 km) Lake George Branch and the 2 mile (3 km) long Grand Calumet River Branch which join to form the main Indiana Harbor Canal. The Indiana Harbor Canal also functions as a harbor and runs 1.4 miles (2 km) before reaching the Indiana Harbor which connects to Lake Michigan. In 2002, Indiana Harbor was the 45th busiest harbor in the United States, handling almost 13,300,000 short tons (12,000,000 metric tons) of cargo. Foreign trade accounted for only 500,000 short tons (450,000 metric tons) of that. Indiana Harbor is not a state-managed ...

The bar-headed goose (Anser indicus) is a goose that breeds in Central Asia in colonies of thousands near mountain lakes and winters in South Asia, as far south as peninsular India. It lays three to eight eggs at a time in a ground nest. Vogel suggests that Bar-headed goose is likely to be Hamsa of Indian mythology. Dave suggests that Bar-headed goose is likely to be Kadamb in ancient and medieval Sanskrit literature, whereas Hamsa generally refers to swan. The bird is pale grey and is easily distinguished from any of the other grey geese of the genus Anser by the black bars on its head. It is also much paler than the other geese in this genus. In flight, its call is a typical goose honking. A mid-sized goose, it measures 71–76 cm (28–30 in) in total length and weighs 1.87–3.2 kg (4.1–7.1 ...

They span forest, grassland, and wetland habitats, supporting a region that’s home to 3,500 species. But how did such a vast and unique geological feature come to be? Cheri Dobbs and Jennifer Gabrys takes us all the way back to the Ice Age to find out. Lesson by Cheri Dobbs and Jennifer Gabrys, animation by TED-Ed.

The world's largest crude oil transporter has a secret buried deep in the Great Lakes—two aging oil pipelines that transport 23 million gallons of crude oil through the largest body of fresh water on earth. Enbridge, the company that operates the pipelines, insists that the two 20-inch pipelines stretching across the Straits of Mackinac could last indefinitely. But one look at the company’s environmental record tells another story: Enbridge had more than 800 spills in North America between 1999 and 2010, dumping nearly 6.8 million gallons of oil. The largest spill released one million gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River, only a few hours drive away from the Mackinac Straits. Activists and advocates have independently verified that parts of the pipeline—built in 1953—are sitting unsup...

The Great Lakes Storm of 1913, historically referred to as the "Big Blow," the "Freshwater Fury," or the "White Hurricane," was a blizzard with hurricane-force winds that devastated the Great Lakes Basin in the Midwestern United States and the province of Ontario in Canada from November 7 through November 10, 1913. The storm was most powerful on November 9, battering and overturning ships on four of the five Great Lakes, particularly Lake Huron. Deceptive lulls in the storm and the slow pace of weather reports contributed to the storm's destructiveness. Having a bad day? I bet we have worse ones for you. We are one
Nothing could be clearer under the sun
There's none you should hold dearer than the ones
Who will race at your side as we run
Forever to the end
To the end
We filled our glasses, drank a toast and raised our weary heads
Nothing but the finest for the things we leave unsaid
I woke up in another time, centuries ahead but still undone
We are gone
Always we are spinning around the sun
Nothing stops the time when you are done
It keeps on going and we run
Forever to the end
To the end
Out behind the cities all the trophies turn to rust
The things we've spent our lives creating slowly gather dust
The moon will hang as pale and as lonely as a ghost when we're gone
We are one
Nothing could be clearer under the sun
There are none you should hold dearer than the ones
Who will race at your side as we run
Forever to the end
We run forever
This is the sum of our endeavours.
