One day while being depressed I decided to rise above it by forcing myself to make a video. So, I stepped outside my home with my video camera in hand and started shooting in my city of Detroit, Michigan. Then I came back, chose the music that appealed to my state of mind and forced myself to edit what I shot.
Thus I had no specific theme/narrative in mind, I just made a video based on my mood, a kind of Art Therapy process, one could say.

Music: Tadd Mullinix, "Lulla" (Ghostly International)
Techniques involved laborious audio scrubbing in the timeline to find music cues for video synchronization. Also, Visual Jockey R3.5 beat-sync compositions superimposed over selected sections.

THE BEAT MY HEART SKIPPED is a little bit more than 1 min. video by artists STEPHEN j SHANABROOK + VERONIKA GEORGIEVA. It made with a camera mounted to the wheel of a car. Shot in one take while traveling on the roads of rural Ohio state in USA. Stephen j Shanabrook is an American artist, who graduated from Syracuse University, USA, and studied in Florence, Italy. He has participated in residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and De Atelier in The Netherlands. Shanabrook has exhibited throughout the world in numerous solo and group exhibitions, included Drawing Center and Swiss Institute in New York. The artist received numerous American and European grants, as well as public commissions. His works is a part of public and private collections in USA, Europe, Russia and Australia, including Damien Hirst’s “murderme” collection, Berlin State Museum and David Walsh’s controversial MONA museum. Veronika Georgieva was born in Moscow and graduated from Moscow Architectural College, MARKHI. From 2010 Stephen j Shanabrook and Veronika Georgieva work as a team. Together the artists created advertising campaign for renowned fashion label Comme des Garçons for Spring/Summer 2010. They also were commissioned by Saatchi and Saatchi advertising agency to create ad campaign for 25th anniversary of Reporters Without Borders in 2010, which included TV commercial. The campaign was shortlisted for Lion Award at Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. The artists live in New York City (USA) and Moscow (Russia). Depression (Made in 2004)
(made in 2004) http://julie.meitz.free.fr/ One day while being depressed I decided to rise above it by forcing myself to make a video. So, I stepped outside my home with my video camera in hand and started shooting in my city of Detroit, Michigan. Then I came back, chose the music that appealed to my state of mind and forced myself to edit what I shot. Thus I had no specific theme/narrative in mind, I just made a video based on my mood, a kind of Art Therapy process, one could say. Video (Cinematography/Editing/Effects): Julie Meitz Music: Tadd Mullinix, "Lulla" (Ghostly International) Techniques involved laborious audio scrubbing in the timeline to find music cues for video synchronization. Also, Visual Jockey R3.5 beat-sync compositions superimposed over selected sections.

A young couple who reject everything the system stands for have taken up residence in it. They have no plans for the future, no respect for the law and life of self destructive meaningless debauchery. The video captures a brief interlude of recovery.

Made in response to an experimental brief at art college. **SEXUALLY EXPLICIT CONTENT** Oh aye. This film daringly examines personal experience of sexual dreams and of fantasy when dreaming of sex in a conscious way. The bold visual style and sound design are intended to molest and unsettle a voyeuristic audience who are witness to the privacy of a character’s sexual subconscious. Viewers are privy to the endless desires and bizarre realities of this female’s sexual dreaming; with references to pornographic sex, fetishistic sex and submissive sex all attempting to culminate in orgasm, the irony being that sleep itself deprives her from the satisfaction her body...

DJ Mana a.k.a. Annam Le has been DJing since 1993, inspired by his brother DJ Flee and friend Rob Brown. He mixed house and techno until 1998, when Sevin introduced him to the art of turntablism. Mana learned most of the fundamentals of turntablism by watching DJs like Q-Bert, D-Styles, Mix Master Mike, A-Trak, Beat Junkies, and the X-Ecutioners. With the help of his early colleagues P-Love, Killa-Jewel, Spazmodik, and Scream, Mana trained hard to hone his turntablist skills. Among his first public appearances were performances at Tableturns, various hip-hop concerts such as Swollen Members and Mr. Lif, and a residency at Blue Dog. The campaign was shortlisted for Lion Award at Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. The artists live in New York City (USA) and Moscow (Russia).

A short experimental piece about sex dreams, starring Kim Chapman and featuring music by VIVE LA FETE and DRESDEN DOLLS. Made in response to an experimental brief at art college.
**SEXUALLY EXPLICIT CONTENT**
Oh aye.
This film daringly examines personal experience of sexual dreams and of fantasy when dreaming of sex in a conscious way. The bold visual style and sound design are intended to molest and unsettle a voyeuristic audience who are witness to the privacy of a character’s sexual subconscious.
Viewers are privy to the endless desires and bizarre realities of this female’s sexual dreaming; with references to pornographic sex, fetishistic sex and submissive sex all attempting to culminate in orgasm, the irony being that sleep itself deprives her from the satisfaction her body craves.
Sumptuous colours and vivid imagery, including a repetitive use of blood and lights representing the physical manifestations of dreaming in such an erotic way, all envelop the audience’s gaze and inner desires inviting participation in the pace and passion, causing hearts to beat faster.

With the help of his early colleagues P-Love, Killa-Jewel, Spazmodik, and Scream, Mana trained hard to hone his turntablist skills. Thomas Noesner, our DoP, was in New York for a Mercedes shoot. Right after the job, he took his camera and strolled through the bustling streets of „The City“. While screening the pictures of a drummer in the tube station, I had the idea of creating a „remix“ of the recorded drum sequence to use it as a soundtrack for the film. That´s when our sounddesigner Toussaint came into play... We simply composed a track around the drum beat of this guy. Some of the clips have also been used for the opening titles of Brad Pitt's "World War Z". So watch and listen to The Beat of New York!
