EARP BROTHER: BAXTER WARREN EARP KILLED IN ARIZONA

Warren Earp: Full name Baxter Warren Earp, Wyatt's youngest brother. Warren was born on March 9, 1855 in Pella, Iowa. Due to his age, Warren didn't participate in most of his older brother's activities. He was still living at home with his parents when the shooting in Tombstone happened. He had been to Tombstone previously in 1880 and 1881 for visits, hence some of the stories about Wyatt in Tombstone include Warren.

Warren Earp, the youngest of the Earps, was murdered in an Arizona saloon.

Nicholas and Virginia Earp raised a family of five sons and four daughters on a series of farms in Illinois and Iowa. Three of the Earps’ sons grew up to win lasting infamy. On October 26, 1881, Wyatt, Virgil, and Morgan Earp fought a brief shoot-out with the Clantons and McLaurys in Tombstone, Arizona. The Earp brothers, along with their friend Doc Holliday, managed to kill all three of their opponents.

The gun battle—which was named after a nearby livery stable called the O.K. Corral—later became a favorite topic of sensationalistic dime novel writers and moviemakers. Ever since, Wyatt, Virgil, and Morgan have been icons of the Old West.

The Earps with Doc Holliday

The youngest Earp brother, however, did not share in the fame of his older brothers. Warren Earp was probably in Tombstone on the day of the famous gunfight, but for reasons that remain unclear, Warren did not join in the gunfight (the eldest Earp brother, James, did not participate either). Warren, however, was involved in the bloody series of revenge killings that followed the shoot-out.

Within six months of the first gunfight, Morgan Earp was assassinated and Virgil Earp was badly wounded. Wyatt presumed the Clantons and McLaurys were behind the attacks. Determined to strike back, Wyatt turned for help to his little brother, Warren.

Together with Doc Holliday, the two brothers took their vengeance, killing two men suspected of having been behind Morgan’s murderer. In danger now of being arrested for murder, the three men fled to Colorado.

GREG LAKE AUTOBIOGRAPHY NOW AVAILABLE IN THE UK!

Emerson Lake and Palmer Legend Greg Lake's Eagerly Awaited Autobiography “Lucky Man” Now Available In The UK!

London - Greg Lake first won acclaim as lead vocalist, bass guitarist and producer when, together with Robert Fripp, he formed King Crimson. Their first album, the landmark In the Court of the Crimson King, co-produced by Greg, featured the iconic song “21st Century Schizoid Man.” King Crimson pioneered progressive rock and paved the way for many famous bands that followed, from Yes and Genesis to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

In December 1969 Greg met fellow legend Keith Emerson at the Fillmore in San Francisco during a North American tour; the two shared common bonds: European musical influences and a desire to reinterpret classical works while creating a new musical genre. After being introduced to drummer Carl Palmer, they formed the first progressive rock supergroup Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

To date ELP has sold over 50 million records. Lake produced “Emerson, Lake & Palmer,” “Tarkus,” “Pictures at an Exhibition,” “Trilogy,” “Brain Salad Surgery,” “Works Vol. 1 & 2,” and two different live albums.

All went platinum and featured a series of hit singles, most written and all sung by Lake. The three created a unique live theatrical performance which featured Emerson attacking his keyboards with knives, Palmer playing a 2.5 ton stainless steel kit and Lake performing on a £6,000 Persian rug which had its own roadie. One of their very first performances was at the historic Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 and they went on to headline California Jam, one of the biggest concerts of the 1970s, attended by 350,000 people.

Probably the voice of his generation, Greg fronted the greatest rock supergroup of the 1970s but never held with the “progressive” tag that attached itself to both the music and the excess. “Lucky Man” not only charts the highs and lows of a career in rock music but also reflects on the death of Keith Emerson last year, living with terminal cancer and the end of life. Greg can best be summed up by his now-famous line: “Material wealth is a very fleeting pleasure ... when you can buy anything you want and do anything you want, you soon discover that you actually don't want any of it.”

WHY AMERICAN LOVE SETTING OFF FIREWORKS ON 4TH OF JULY

Why do we set off fireworks on the 4th of July? Because we always have.

In 1777, one year after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Philadelphia held a massive celebration. American University’s James R. Heintze dug up this account, from the Virginia Gazette:

One of the most elaborate celebrations in 1777 and the first organized celebration of its kind occurred in Philadelphia. This event had all of the elements of typical future celebrations–the discharge of cannon, one round for each state in the union, the ringing of bells, a dinner, the use of music, the drinking of toasts (it would subsequently be traditional to have one toast for each state in the union), “loud huzzas,” a parade, fireworks, and the use of the nation’s colors, in this case the dressing up of “armed ships and gallies” in the harbor.

WHY RETRO MUSIC IS MAKING A HUGE COMEBACK

Retro music is a contemporary music that consists of stylistic elements that are similar to the past. Many people are fond of this type of music, especially the middle-aged and older people, because it reminds them of their younger years. Trying to replicate the past may be as easy as listening to punk rock or psychedelic genre music that was released in the 70s and 80s. Below, you will discover more information about retro music and why it is making a huge comeback.

Top Dance Music

Today, rap, pop rock and hard rock has taken over the music scenes. While it is not unusual for people to dance to this type of music, it may be difficult for some people to feel the rhythm. Retro music featured some the best dance music ever created. In fact, many dance clubs and taverns continue to hire bands that play retro music. They have discovered that it is the best way to entice people to get up on the dance floor. If you want to relive the 70’s with ease, you can click here to learn exactly how to do it without all the hoopla.

Does Not Rely On Electronic Equipment

Creating music from the modern genres can be extremely difficult, if not impossible without expensive electronic equipment and computers. Bands are already piled down with tons of equipment that they have to transfer from one place to another, just to perform live. While it is fairly easy to utilize the equipment that is already set up in the recording studio, it is impossible to do it live in front of a large crowd. With this said, most retro music was created prior to the adaptation of electronics. Which makes it no less creative, but less simplistic to pull off a replication.

Sony Going Back To Vinyl

Sony is without a doubt one of the biggest names in entertainment, yet it has been around three-decades since the company produced a single vinyl record. However, Sony announced this week that it would begin recreating the magic that was known as vinyl. Over the past several years there has been a great increase in the vinyl industry and that is what prompted this comeback for Sony. The interesting thing is that this increase has seen in younger music lover rather than older. Recent statistics show that vinyl record purchases account for around 18% of all physical music revenue this year alone, which produces a margin of right around $5 million. I addition to this turntables and vinyl record machines are also taking advantage of this influx.

Retro TV Series Inspiring Younger Generations

If you are a big TV fanatic, you have probably noticed a lot of the big TV stations targeting younger generations with older style TV series. For instance, the TV series Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire could not be two better examples. While these two iconic series were based in completely different time lines and implored different story lines, they both prompted younger viewers to explore the fashions and music of that time. The sets, actors, costumes, and soundtracks were so captivating in both of these series that users couldn’t help but delve deeper into these worlds to uncover the entertainment styles available in these times.

THE EMPEROR: THE POWERFUL MOVER AND SHAKER

The Emperor's character speaks of establishing a strong, stable foundation for life and of forging plans that will convert thoughts and ideas into reality. A disciplined leader, he has always earned his way and never retired to the background or relied on the charity or assistance of others. These traits make him a respected teacher for the next generation, who will view him as the father and benefactor, builder of the home, husband, lover, and strong career man.

Power and ambition define the Emperor. He assumes command of his own life as well as his environment, body, temper, instincts, and affairs of his heart. The wants and needs of others cannot hope to control this aggressive, brave, bold, and commanding figure.

As monarch, commander and chief of his environment, the Emperor can either be demanding or charismatic, possibly representing just the person that you need to motivate you and impel you to realize your potential.

Positive Position: You are confident, the father and builder of structures, solid foundations, and the boss in control. The Emperor is in control of his marriage, family, business and his environmental relationships. The Emperor represents a person who offers sound advice and a secure relationship.

THE FIRST SONY WALKMAN LAUNCHED JULY 1 1979!

HISTORY.COM The transistor radio was a technological marvel that put music literally into consumers’ hands in the mid-1950s. It was cheap, it was reliable and it was portable, but it could never even approximate the sound quality of a record being played on a home stereo.

It was, however, the only technology available to on-the-go music lovers until the Sony Corporation sparked a revolution in personal electronics with the introduction of the first personal stereo cassette player. A device as astonishing on first encounter as the cellular phone or digital camera would later be, the Sony Walkman went on sale for the very first time on July 1, 1979.

The Sony Walkman didn’t represent a breakthrough in technology so much as it did a breakthrough in imagination. Every element of the Walkman was already in production or testing as part of some other device when Sony’s legendary chairman, Masaru Ibuka, made a special request in early 1979.

Ibuka was a music lover who traveled frequently, and he was already in the habit of carrying one of his company’s “portable” stereo tape recorders with him on international flights. But the Sony TC-D5 was a heavy device that was in no way portable by modern standards, so Ibuka asked his then-deputy Norio Ohga if he could cobble together something better.

Sony TC-D5

Working with the company’s existing Pressman product—a portable, monaural tape recorder that was popular with journalists—Ohga had a playback-only stereo device rigged up in time for Ibuka’s next trans-Pacific flight.

Even though this proto-Walkman required large, earmuff-like headphones and custom-made batteries (which, of course, ran out on Ibuka midway through his flight), it impressed the Sony chairman tremendously with its sound quality and portability.

Many objections were raised internally when Ibuka began his push to create a marketable version of the device, the biggest of which was conceptual: Would anyone actually buy a cassette device that was not for recording but only for playback? Ibuka’s simple response—”Don’t you think a stereo cassette player that you can listen to while walking around is a good idea?”—proved to be one of the great understatements in business history.

After a breakneck development phase of only four months, Sony engineers had a reliable product ready for market at 30,000 Yen (approximately US$150 in 1979 dollars) and available before the start of summer vacation for Japanese students—both critical targets established at the outset of development.

The initial production run of 30,000 units looked to be too ambitious after one month of lackluster sales (only 3,000 were sold in July 1979). But after an innovative consumer-marketing campaign in which Sony representatives simply approached pedestrians on the streets of Tokyo and gave them a chance to listen to the Walkman, the product took off, selling out available stocks before the end of August and signaling the beginning of one of Sony’s greatest success stories.

LITTLE STEVEN’S NEW ALBUM, SOULFIRE, AVAILABLE ON VINYL

Little Steven’s sensational new solo album, SOULFIRE, is available today on 180-gram black vinyl via Wicked Cool/Big Machine/UMe. The album, released digitally and on CD on May 19, is presented as a double LP housed in a gatefold sleeve with the music on sides 1-3 and a unique etching of Steven Van Zandt on side 4. The vinyl is available to purchase here:

SOULFIRE, Van Zandt's first solo album in close to two decades is without question his purest and most uniquely personal artistic statement thus far. His return to the spotlight has garnered rave reviews from fans and critics alike with Rolling Stone exclaiming, “rock’s ultimate sideman reclaims the Jersey Shore sound he helped invent,” and USA Today remarking that the album’s “incendiary impact just about makes up for his long absence.”

"I felt a bit guilty about having walked away from Little Steven the artist," he says. "I left that part of myself behind and I shouldn't have done that. I let the material down by not continuing to perform it," he says. "I betrayed the work and I want to fix that. I didn't give up on the material - there were a lot of other factors - but I do have a sense of wanting some redemption for it."

Van Zandt - who will remain a touring and recording member of The E Street Band - is currently touring Europe with his band, the Disciples of Soul. A full-scale North American headline tour will be announced soon - for regular updates and ticket information  CLICK HERE

REAL LIFE SHAWSHANK ESCAPEE GLENN GODWIN STILL WANTED BY FBI

Andy Dufresne                           Glen Stewart Godwin
In 1982, Stephen King wrote his novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" – which was turned into an outstanding Hollywood movie starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman a decade or so later.

But, in 1987, a Folsom Prison inmate named Glen Stewart Godwin slipped through an open manhole and crawled 750 feet down a storm drain to the American River, where he used a raft left by an accomplice to paddle his way to freedom. Those who've seen the movie or read the novel would understand the similarities.

Like his fictional counterpart, Godwin headed to Mexico after regaining his freedom.

Video: Andy Dufresne escapes

In 1985, while serving his sentence at Soledad Prison, Godwin married Shelley Rose. He was then transferred to Folsom Prison, a maximum-security facility, where he escaped through a 300-yard storm drain and floated across the American River on a raft to freedom in June 1987.

Apparently gaining assistance from someone who cut the iron bars on the storm drain from the outside, Godwin was the third person to escape from Folsom in 25 years. Lorenz Karlic, who had once shared a cell with Godwin, was arrested in Hesperia, California, for aiding Godwin in his escape.

After two years without any leads on either Glen or Shelley, who was last seen renting a car at the San Jose Airport, authorities were notified of a man in a Mexican prison under the name of Stewart Carrera, whose fingerprints matched those of Godwin’s. Reportedly, Mexican authorities had arrested Glen on drugs and weapons charges six months after his escape.

While California officials were working to have Godwin extradited back to the United States, he murdered a fellow inmate in Puerto Vallarta Prison—an attempt to avoid returning to the high security prisons in California. Shortly thereafter, he escaped from the Mexican jail.

In December 1996, Godwin appeared on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List. Shelley Godwin, who, unbeknownst to California law enforcement officials, had divorced her husband and remarried in Texas, was apprehended in Dallas when a story on the Godwin case appeared on television’s America’s Most Wanted, but Glen Godwin remains at large.

HAPPY 10TH BIRTHDAY IPHONE! THE PHONE THAT ROCKED THE WORLD

10 years ago, it couldn't send photos, had no flash and couldn't record videos. And you could only get it on AT&T. The iPhone has certainly come a long way.

The history of iPhone began with a request from inventor Steve Jobs to Apple Inc.'s engineers, asking them to investigate the use of touchscreen devices and tablet computers (which later came to fruition with the iPad). ... Its form factor is credited to Apple's Chief Design Officer, Jonathan Ive.

THE NYMPHS SINGER INGER LORRE: NEW RELEASE LIVE AT THE VIPER ROOM

Infamous Nymphs front woman Inger Lorre celebrates how vital her songs still sound today, with a live recording album 'Live at the Viper Room' of a sold-out at the legendary Viper Room, due out on August 4th, 2017 via Sweet Nothing / Cargo Records as CD and 2 LP set (colored vinyl).

The set includes classic Nymphs tracks, ‘Sad and Damned’, ode to a serial killer ‘The Highway’ and the mourning swirl of ‘Imitating Angels’, with the addition of a cover of a Siouxsie’s ‘Monitor’. This ‘official bootleg’ is as raw and primal; tribal, glamorous, witch-y, grunge-y, punk. Inger states, “These songs are the sound of me walking through fire...”

The Players:

Inger Lorre - Vocals (The Nymphs)
Eric James Contreras - Drums (The Bloodhounds, The Nymphs, Plant Tribe)
Gabe Hammond - Bass (The Fuzztones)
Sean Romin - Guitar (The Generators, Schleprock)
Mario Tremaine - Guitar (The Nymphs)

Track listing:

1. Rumble
2. Alright
3. Death Of A Scenester
4. Sad & Damned
5. 7B
6. Snowflake
7. Hate In My Heart
8. Wasting My Days
9. 2 Cats
10. The River
11. Imitating Angels
12. The Highway
13. Monitor

Lorre’s cult following has grown in strength of late, with the seminal self-titled debut album re-issued by Rock Candy Records and 2 new songs released for Record Store Day. Encouraged by the interest she is recording a new album, tentatively planned for an autumn release.

Often seen as musician’s musician (once dubbed by Jeff Buckley as ‘The Patron Saint of Fucked-Over Musicians’) and having worked with the likes of Iggy Pop and Henry Rollins, sadly Inger’s notoriety often eclipsed her darkly beautiful music.

Haunted by the infamy of a band that burned brightly all too briefly, before imploding in a devastation of bereavement, addiction, and mental health issues and misguided record company dealings. No one will ever forget the desk pissing incident. Inger Lorre is a music industry legend.

These days Inger Lorre has mostly conquered her own demons - exorcised through art, music and time to heal. What comes next will no doubt be unique as the women herself.

ISABELA PERON BECAME PRESIDENT OF ARGENTINA 6-29-1974

Evita Duarte-Peron and Juan Domingo Peron

This story is straight out of the plot of House of Cards....

In 1943, as an army officer, Juan Domingo Peron joined a military coup against Argentina’s ineffectual civilian government. Appointed secretary of labor, his influence grew, and in 1944 he also became vice president and minister of war. In October 1945, Peron was ousted from his positions by a coup of constitutionally minded civilians and officers, and he was imprisoned, but appeals from workers and his charismatic mistress, Eva Duarte, soon forced his release.

The night of his release, October 17, he addressed a crowd of some 300,000 people from the balcony of the presidential palace and promised to lead the people to victory in the coming presidential election. Four days later, Peron, a widower, married Eva Duarte, or “Evita,” as she became affectionately known.

As president, Peron constructed an impressive populist alliance, and his vision of self-sufficiency for Argentina won him wide support. However, he also became increasingly authoritarian, jailing political opponents and restricting freedom of the press.

In 1952, his greatest political resource, Evita, died, and support for him dissolved. Three years later, he was ousted in a military coup. In 1973, after 18 years of exile, he returned to Argentina and won the presidency again. His third wife, Isabela Martinez de Peron, was elected as vice president and in 1974 succeeded him upon his death.

President Isabela Peron

President Isabela Peron was unable to command the support of any powerful group, let alone construct a necessary coalition, and the political and economic situation in Argentina worsened.

On March 24, 1976, following a sharp rise in political terrorism and guerrilla activity, the military deposed Isabela Peron and instituted one of the bloodiest regimes in South American history. Isabela Peron was imprisoned for five years on a charge of abuse of property and upon her release in 1981 settled in Madrid.

THE FIRST CORVETTE WAS ASSEMBLED IN FLINT JUNE 30 1953

On June 30th 1953, workers at a Chevrolet plant in Flint, Michigan, assemble the first Corvette, a two-seater sports car that would become an American icon. The first completed production car rolled off the assembly line two days later, one of just 300 Corvettes made that year.

The idea for the Corvette originated with General Motors’ pioneering designer Harley J. Earl, who in 1951 began developing plans for a low-cost American sports car that could compete with Europe’s MGs, Jaguars and Ferraris. The project was eventually code-named “Opel.”

In January 1953, GM debuted the Corvette concept car at its Motorama auto show at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. It featured a fiberglass body and a six-cylinder engine and according to GM, was named for the “trim, fleet naval vessel that performed heroic escort and patrol duties during World War II.” The Corvette was a big hit with the public at Motorama and GM soon put the roadster into production.

On June 30, 1953, the first Corvette came off the production line in Flint. It was hand-assembled and featured a Polo White exterior and red interior, two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, a wraparound windshield, whitewall tires and detachable plastic curtains instead of side windows.

The earliest Corvettes were designed to be opened from the inside and lacked exterior door handles. Other components included a clock, cigarette lighter and red warning light that activated when the parking brake was applied–a new feature at the time. The car carried an initial price tag of $3,490 and could go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 11 or 12 seconds, then considered a fairly average speed. READ MORE
