http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reserve_Officers'_Training_Corps
The Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) is a college-based program for training commissioned officers of the United States Armed Forces. ROTC officers serve in all branches of the U.S. armed forces (although the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Coast Guard do not have their own respective ROTC programs, graduates of ROTC programs do currently serve as Marine Corps and Coast Guard officers). In 2010, ROTC graduates constituted 38.5 percent of newly commissioned U.S. Army officers, 1.8 percent of newly commissioned U.S. Marine Corps officers (through NROTC), 16.7 percent of newly commissioned U.S. Navy officers, and 38.1 percent of newly commissioned U.S. Air Force officers, for a combined 30 percent of all active duty officers in the Department of Defense commissioned that year. Under ROTC, a student may receive a competitive, merit-based scholarship, covering all or part of college tuition, in return for an obligation of active military service after graduation.
The U.S. Coast Guard offers a similar program to ROTC under a different name: CSPI (College Student Pre-commissioning Initiative). In addition, although the U.S. Coast Guard does not have an ROTC program, direct commissions are available for ROTC students at select colleges and universities, for ROTC graduates transferring branches, as well as for qualified military pilots.
ROTC students attend college like other students, but also receive basic military training and officer training for their chosen branch of service through the ROTC unit at or nearby the college. The students participate in regular drills during the school year, and extended training activities during the summer. Some of the summer training that is offered to cadets in the Army ROTC program are: Airborne, Air Assault, Mountain Warfare, WHINSEC, and other related schools.
Army ROTC units are organized as brigades, battalions, and companies. Air Force ROTC units are detachments with the students organized into wings, groups, squadrons, and flights. Army and Air Force ROTC students are referred to as cadets. Navy ROTC units are organized as battalions, and also include NROTC students under "Marine Option" who will eventually be commissioned as officers in the Marine Corps. Marine NROTC students may be formed in a separate company when the program includes sufficient numbers. All Navy ROTC students are referred to as midshipmen...
The concept of ROTC in the United States began with the Morrill Act of 1862 which established the land-grant colleges. Part of the federal government's requirement for these schools was that they include military tactics as part of their curriculum, forming what became known as ROTC. The college from which ROTC originated is Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. Norwich was founded in 1819 at Norwich, Vermont, as the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy.
Until the 1960s, many major universities required compulsory ROTC for all of their male students. However, because of the protests that culminated in the opposition to U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, compulsory ROTC was dropped in favor of voluntary programs. In some places ROTC was expelled from campus altogether, although it was always possible to participate in off-campus ROTC...
Before a cadet goes through commissioning, he/she must pass LDAC between their summer of becoming a senior. LDAC (Leadership Developmental and Assessment Course) is held in FT. Lewis, Washington, where each cadet will be evaluated on leadership skills. The course is set up for a month of training with other peers and evaluated by prior servicemen.
Based upon the individuals OML will determine the options for commissioning and receiving Active Duty or Reserve Component. The higher the OML score the likelier a cadet will receive their desired position as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army...

Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, "the District", or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. On July 16, 1790, the Residence Act approved the creation of a capital district located along the Potomac River on the country's East Coast. As permitted by the U.S. Constitution, the District is under the exclusive jurisdiction of the United States Congress and is therefore not a part of any U.S. state.
The most important places to visit in Washington, D.C., are: The White House (symbolically the most important building of the country, US Presidents have lived and worked here for more than 200 years), Washington Monument (dominating the Washington DC skyline and dedicated to the first US President George Washington), The Capitol (a remarkable neoclassical landmark. Recognized around the world, this is where the US Senate and House of Representatives meet), National Cathedral (it is the most well known US cathedral. This beautiful building has been the site for many national memorial services), Supreme Court (among the country's most important institutions, you can take a tour to learn about its history and inner workings), Lincoln Memorial (dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, 16th US President and a great leader. Completed in 1922, it is modeled after Greek temples), Library of Congress (it is the largest library in the world. The magnificent building houses approximately 90 million archives materials), Jefferson Memorial (it is dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, third US President and one of the Founding Fathers. The memorial is modeled after Rome's Pantheon) and many more.
If you want to save time and money, the most important Washington travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

Barbados is the easternmost island in the Lesser Antilles. It is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, east of the other West Indies Islands.
The most important places to visit in Barbados are: Harrison's Cave (even on the hottest day in Barbados it's cool down below in this popular show cave, which is also a nice rainy-day option), Hunte's Garden (horticulturist Anthony Hunte has transformed a sink-hole in the middle of a rainforest into a lush and beautiful series of gardens that are open for tours that may include an encounter with Hunte himself), George Washington's House (George Washington really did sleep here -- he visited Barbados in his youth along with his brother, Lawrence, during his first foray outside what would later become (thanks to his leadership) the United States) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Barbados travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

http://bookinghunter.com
Philadelphia is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the second largest city on the East Coast of the United States, and the fifth-most-populous city in the United States.[1] It is located in the Northeastern United States along the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers, and it is the only consolidated city-county in Pennsylvania.
The most important places to visit in Philadelphia are: Franklin Court (was raised in 1812, the ghost of it still stands today. Here is the Christ Church Burial Ground, another famous landmark, where Ben Franklin and four other signers of the Declaration of Independence were laid to rest), Congress Hall (was home of the first Congress. On top of that, George Washington and John Adams were inaugurated here, and the Bill of Rights was ratified right inside), Liberty Bell (is perhaps Philadelphia's most famous attraction. On July 8th, 1776, it was rung to commemorate the hearing of the Declaration of Independence. The Bell weighs 2,000 pounds, which may not be apparent by looking at it) and many more.
If you want to save time and money, the most important Philadelphia travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. USS GEORGE WASHINGTON, Pacific Ocean – USS George Washington (CVN 73) arrived in Lima, Peru, Oct. 3 for a port visit.
“My crew and I are very excited to be here,” said Capt. Timothy Kuehhas, George Washington’s commanding officer. “Visiting Lima is the opportunity of a lifetime, and we look forward to seeing many famous and historic places during our time here.”
Lima is the first of several South American ports the ship will be visiting. While in port, crew members will have an opportunity to tour, shop and enjoy liberty. Sailors will be able to interact with the Peruvians through community relations (COMREL) and community service (COMSERV) projects. These projects include performing maintenance on an elementary school, interacting with children and competing with local sporting teams.
During the port visit, Washington’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) program will be offering a variety of tours and activities for the Sailors to enjoy. Scheduled events include tours through history-rich museums, including the Pachacamac ruins, the Real Felipe Fortress and important historical sites in the city as well as a visit to one of the new seven wonders of the world, Machu Picchu.
“I’m really excited for my first foreign port visit,” said Quartermaster Seaman Joe Acevedo. “I want to see what Lima has to offer and eat as much of the local cuisine as possible.”
Washington will be hosting a reception for close to 300 Peruvian and American guests following its arrival in Lima as well as tours for visitors embarking aboard the ship during the duration of the port visit.
“I am humbled by the hospitality of our hosts and am grateful for the opportunity to partake in COMSERV projects with the Peruvian navy,” said Kuehhas. “I’m certain our visit will create precious memories for my crew that they will share with their families and friends for many years to come.”
Washington is deployed as part of Southern Seas 2015, which seeks to enhance interoperability, increase regional stability and build and maintain relationships with countries throughout the region through joint, multinational and interagency exchanges and cooperation.

The Freemasons society attracts the world's attention.

I'd like to show you America's Greatest Landmarks
The National Mall is known as the hub of historic activities in Washington DC. Lavishly spread across acres of green grass, this open area national park has been often used for public demonstrations, marches, rallies and concerts. The area of the park extends from the illustrious capital building to the proud Lincoln Memorial.
One of the most iconic bridges in the world, The Golden Gate Bridge connects San Francisco to the tip of Marin County. This suspension bridge, completed in 1937, is also famous for its so called "International Orange" color produced by the sealant used. A dazzling approximate 118 thousand cars pass through this mighty structure every day, a testament to its impressive engineering.
Shining brilliantly on New York Harbor's Liberty Island, is the Statue of Liberty. A rather generous gift from the French nation, the statue consists of a representation of the Roman Goddess of freedom clasping a torch. Arguably the most popular internationally recognizable symbol of America, it also stands as an effigy of freedom.
The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is an enduring symbol of freedom and hope which graces the lands of South Dakota. Four former presidents have been elegantly carved 60 feet high into Mount Rushmore. A national treasure, the monument pays homage to George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
This resplendent brick Georgian building in Philadelphia is Independence Hall. This majestic monument has witnessed many historic events in the history of United States. The signing of The Declaration of Independence and the adoption of the United States Constitution took place in this glorious structure.

Flexner's four volume biography of George Washington was the first biography to expose Washington for what he really was, a real person with exceptional qualities. In my opinion he is a man to model yourself after. He was not perfect for sure, but he was what we needed at the time to form this great Union that we have. He was the, indispensable man.
When I was 16 or so I read this four volume biography of George Washington, and I found it fascinating. I never knew what kind of a man Washington was until I read this biography. One thing I will always remember is how when he was a young man out in the wilderness, he pulled a man out of the icy river that he had fallen into. He did it effortlessly with only one arm, saving the man from the freezing water. Some don't know it, but Washington was a very tall and powerful man. Some say he stood as tall as 6'4". He was a very big man and he ate a lot of food. Sometimes his dinners with his guests would last as long as 2 or 3 hours.
Not sure if it was in this book, but I read how Washington during a big battle in the French and Indian War survived massive gunfire from Indians. He had two horses shot out from underneath him. He later found multiple bullet holes in his clothing. Later it was recounted by the Chief in charge of the attacking Indians that they had purposefully tried to kill him, but upon their failure the Chief had ordered his men to not fire on the young officer anymore because he was protected by the great spirit in the sky. The Indian Chief concluded that the young officer was not meant to be killed; that he had a greater purpose in life.
Then there was the "Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation" that the young Washington modeled his life after. The first two rules are:
1. Every Action done in Company, ought to be with Some Sign of Respect, to those that are Present.
2. When in Company, put not your Hands to any Part of the Body, not usually discovered.
It was not in the rules, but I would add: Do not let your trousers (pants) hang down your butt thereby revealing your butt crack to others.
There are 110 rules in all. You can read them here:
http://www.foundationsmag.com/civility.html
I still have the last volume of the biography in my bookshelf. Yes, I stole it from the library and I still feel bad about it. Think of all those young kids who never found out how it all turned out, that Washington was the indispensable man. I guess I should take it back, but it's been so long that I'm afraid they'll put me in jail.
jbranstetter04
Thomas Flexner's greatest impact was in demystifying Washington -- revealing his weaknesses as well as his strengths and, in Mr. Flexner's own words, moving beyond ''the marble image.'' A result was to make the first president even more appealing.
Mr. Flexner's Washington, scrupulously researched from original sources, never chopped down a cherry tree but did have intriguingly flirtatious relationships outside his marriage that stopped just short of the bedroom. Most important, he refused the absolute power that was offered to him, which, as Mr. Flexner pointed out, other revolutionary leaders, from Napoleon to Lenin, did not.
He portrayed a president not afraid to be a little unbuttoned, who enjoyed sipping Madeira, riding after hounds and relishing the latest gossip. Mr. Flexner related that Washington was perplexed by a French sculptor's decision to depict him in a toga.
Writing in The New York Times in 1968, Thomas Lask said that Mr. Flexner ''brought the hero down from Olympus, if not to eye level, at least to where we can see him whole and see him plain.''
Mr. Flexner was born in Manhattan on Jan. 13, 1908. His father, Simon Flexner, was director of research at Rockefeller University. Members of his mother's family, which had deep roots in Maryland, were among the founders of Bryn Mawr College.

Dr. Willis D. Weatherford, President of Blue Ridge, introduced Dr. Carver as the speaker.
With his high voice surprising the audience, Dr. Carver exclaimed humorously:
"I always look forward to introductions as opportunities to learn something about myself...."
He continued:
"Years ago I went into my laboratory and said, 'Dear Mr. Creator, please tell me what the universe was made for?'
The Great Creator answered, 'You want to know too much for that little mind of yours. Ask for something more your size, little man.'
Then I asked, 'Please, Mr. Creator, tell me what man was made for.'
Again the Great Creator replied, 'You are still asking too much. Cut down on the extent and improve the intent.'
So then I asked, 'Please, Mr. Creator, will you tell me why the peanut was made?'
'That's better, but even then it's infinite. What do you want to know about the peanut?'
'Mr. Creator, can I make milk out of the peanut?'
'What kind of milk do you want? Good Jersey milk or just plain boarding house milk?'
'Good Jersey milk.'
And then the Great Creator taught me to take the peanut apart and put it together again. And out of the process have come forth all these products!"
Among the numerous products displayed was a bottle of good Jersey milk. Three and-a-half ounces of peanuts produced one pint of rich milk or one quart of raw "skim" milk, called boarding house "blue john" milk.

The Beatles: Interview at the George Washington Hotel, Jacksonville, FL (1964)

In May 1966, John Lennon said of people covering their songs, "Lack of feeling in an emotional sense is responsible for the way some singers do our songs. They don't understand and are too old to grasp the feeling. Beatles are really the only people who can play Beatle music."
Although many artists have performed covers of songs by The Beatles, the following are among the most notable.
Oasis
Both Noel and Liam Gallagher of Oasis have revealed the massive influence The Beatles have on their music. On their EP Cigarettes & Alcohol, there is a live version of Beatles' song "I Am The Walrus". Oasis have also covered "Helter Skelter" and "Strawberry Fields Forever".
Oasis songs also often contain references to Beatles' songs, such as:
* "Sing a song to me/One from 'Let It Be'" -- "Be Here Now" off Be Here Now.
* "You can sail with me/In my yellow submarine" - "Supersonic" off Definitely Maybe
* "I'd like to be/Under the sea" - "Take Me Away" off Supersonic [EP] (This is a direct line-take from Beatles song "Octopus's Garden")
* "Fool on the Hill and I Feel Fine" - "D'You Know What I Mean?" off Be Here Now
* "Down the long and winding road/and back home to you" - "My Big Mouth" off Be Here Now
The song "Morning Glory" off (What's the Story) Morning Glory features a reference to "Tomorrow Never Knows" in the lyric "Walking to the sound of my favourite tune, Tomorrow Never Knows what it doesn't know too soon."
On the way to the studio to record an extra verse for "Shakermaker", Noel realised he had no lyrics for it. On the way, the car stopped at some traffic lights by a familiar record shop, Sifter's. Noel turned this journey into the missing verse "Mr Sifter sold me songs/When I was just 16/Now he stops at traffic lights/But only when they're green." The video for the single was shot partly at the record shop, and during this verse Liam is seen holding the Paul McCartney and Wings LP Red Rose Speedway.
The video to "All Around the World" (itself a nod to "Yellow Submarine") features the band in white suits. The Beatles wore white suits while performing "Your Mother Should Know" during the film Magical Mystery Tour.
The front cover of the "Live Forever" single features a photograph of the childhood home of John Lennon.
The cover of "Don't Look Back in Anger" is a reference to the story when Ringo left The Beatles for a short time, only to be welcomed back with flowers all over his drum set.
The melody for the Liam track "Guess God Thinks I'm Abel", by his own admission, is a slowed down version of "I Wanna Be Your Man".
John Lennon was once asked to sum up the 60s in one phrase. His answer was "Be Here Now", the title of Oasis' 1997 album.
On 2008's Liam penned song, "I'm Outta Time", there features an audio-clip of Lennon defending his right to live in New York, when he says "As Churchill said, 'It's every Englishman's inalienable right to live where the hell he likes. What's it gonna do? Vanish? Is it not going to be there when I get back?'"
Jimi Hendrix
On June 4, 1967, the Jimi Hendrix Experience played their last show in England, at London's Saville Theatre, before heading to America. Two Beatles (Paul McCartney and George Harrison) were in attendance, along with a roll-call of UK rock stardom: Brian Epstein, Eric Clapton, Spencer Davis, Jack Bruce, and pop singer Lulu.
Hendrix opened the show with his own rendition of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", which he had learned in the few days leading up to the show. Harrison and McCartney were extremely impressed by this, especially because it was played on the Sunday after the release of Sgt. Pepper the previous Friday. McCartney had publicly endorsed Hendrix for months, before Hendrix broke into the UK music scene. Hendrix also played "Day Tripper," which can be found on the live albums Radio One and BBC Sessions.
Joe Cocker
Joe Cocker's first album was called With a Little Help from My Friends and contained a song with the same name. He had completely revamped the Lennon/McCartney song by changing it to a 12/8 blues/rock song. The Beatles heard it before its release, as the producer was uncertain as to how they would react to such a radical overhaul of one of their tracks. The Beatles agreed that it was a great version.
Cocker's version was later used as the theme song for the TV show The Wonder Years.
Cocker later sang and acted the song "Come Together" in the feature film Across the Universe.

During each summer, on contract midshipmen in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program participate in naval training to continue their professional development and prepare them to become Naval and Marine Corps Officers.
During the summer of 2015, midshipmen from schools across the United States joined together and conducted the Career Oriented Training for Midshipmen program, more commonly referred to as CORTRAMID.
CORTRAMID East 2015 was hosted and conducted at Naval Station Norfolk, Naval Station Kings Bay, and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. During this training, all midshipmen, no matter their option, are exposed to all of the capabilities that United States Navy and Marine Corps have to offer.
This summer, we had incredible opportunities including living on board an underway ballistic missile submarine, flying in and piloting aircraft and helicopters, firing a wide range of Marine Corps weaponry, and many others. I was privileged enough to carry around a GoPro Hero 3 during this training, which culminated in this production.
CORTRAMID East occurred 08JUL15 - 08AUG15 and involved nearly 500 midshipmen.

Korea launched its first reserve officer training program today with a ceremony at the school in Daejeon... that will host the program.
It′s all part of a government effort to fill its ranks with more officers and fewer troops.
Connie Kim reports.
They stand resolute and determined, ready to protect Korea and its citizens.
These young trainees are part of the first class of cadets in the country′s first Reserve Non-commissioned Training Corps program.
A ceremony to kick things off was held Wednesday at the Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology, a two-year vocational school in the heart of the country.
While in school, the cadets will receive a military education alongside their regular classes and will go through training drills during their summer and winter vacations.
Upon completing the program, they will be staff sergeants.
The first batch of cadets says they are honored to be part of this program and hope to be good role models for future classes.
″After receiving the training here, I believe I can grow into a strong squad commander and formulate the right priorities for serving Korea.″
″I want to be an honest army officer for junior cadets and I also will do my best to serve my country.″
The program is significant not only for the school but also for the country, as the government seeks to increase the number of officers by more than 13-percent by 2020, while also lowering troop numbers.
″One of the founding principles of our school is serving the country. In that sense, training our students to become officers has great significance and will be a great asset to the nation.″
Looking around the new facility for the new cadets, school officials expressed hope the school will succeed in its new role as a training ground for members of the military.
″A total of six model schools will offer the training program. Military authorities say they′ll decide whether to expand the program to other schools after a review in 2017.

A Sikh college student from New York said Monday he is excited about a federal court decision that will permit him to enroll in the US Army’s reserve officer training corps without shaving his beard, cutting his hair or removing his turban.
US district court judge Amy Berman Jackson issued the ruling Friday in Washington DC, saying 20-year-old Iknoor Singh’s adherence to his religious beliefs would not diminish his ability to serve in the military.
Singh, who will be a junior next fall studying finance and business analytics at Hofstra University on Long Island, said he has had a lifelong interest in public service.
Sikhism, a 500-year-old religion founded in India, requires its male followers to wear a turban and beard and keep their hair uncut.
Under a policy announced last year, troops can seek waivers on a case-by-case basis to wear religious clothing, seek prayer time or engage in religious practices.

JOHNSON CITY (October 31, 2014) — The U.S. Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) at East Tennessee State University held an induction ceremony for the campus ROTC Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 31.
The ETSU ROTC Hall of Fame recognizes alumni, former cadre members and others who have distinguished themselves professionally and have made significant contributions to the ROTC program.
The new Hall of Fame members include:
Capt. Eugene Delano Franklin, a member of the ETSU Class of 1955, was an ETSU ROTC honor graduate who joined the U.S. Army Infantry. He attended military language schools and became fluent in Vietnamese. In the early 1960s, he was sent to South Vietnam as an advisor to Army of the Republic of Vietnam troops. After surviving a Viet Cong attack on his barracks, he received a Purple Heart, but after his return to duty, he died during a mission while under attack by the Viet Cong in June of 1965. He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross the Bronze Star and a second Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster
Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Isaac “Ike” Osborne Jr. graduated from ETSU in 1974. He continued his education with a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee and another through the U.S. Army War College. After serving active duty from 1974 to 1978, he entered the Tennessee Army National Guard in Johnson City. In 1982, he became a full-time National Guard employee, eventually attaining the rank of Assistant Adjutant General of the Tennessee National Guard and Deputy Commander of U.S. Army Africa, in Vicenza, Italy.
Col. (Ret.) Tommy C. Stiner, ETSU Class of 1963, earned a master’s degree in public administration at the University of Tennessee. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army War College. A dual-rated Master Army Aviator, Stiner served his country for 29 years. His assignments included serving as director of Combined Arms Tactics at the U.S. Army Aviation Center. In retirement, he was elected county executive of Campbell County in addition to a series of board memberships with a number of economic and community development agencies.
