The Philippines (i/ˈfɪlᵻpiːnz/; Filipino: Pilipinas [ˌpɪlɪˈpinɐs]), officially known as the Republic of the Philippines (Filipino: Republika ng Pilipinas), is a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean. It consists of about 7,500 islands that are categorized broadly under three main geographical divisions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city of the Philippines is Manila and the most populous city is Quezon City; both are part of Metro Manila.
To the north of the Philippines across the Luzon Strait lies Taiwan; Vietnam sits west across the South China Sea; southwest lies Malaysia in the island of Borneo across the Sulu Sea, and to the south the Celebes Sea separates it from other islands of Indonesia; while to the east it is bounded by the Philippine Sea and the island-nation of Palau. Its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and close to the equator makes the Philippines prone to earthquakes and typhoons, but also endows it with abundant natural resources and some of the world's greatest biodiversity. At approximately 300,000 square kilometers (115,831 sq mi), the Philippines is the 72nd-largest country in the world.

Paul Pfeiffer was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1966, but spent most of his childhood in the Philippines. Pfeiffer relocated to New York in 1990, where he attended Hunter College and the Whitney Independent Study Program. Pfeiffer’s groundbreaking work in video, sculpture, and photography uses recent computer technologies to dissect the role that mass media plays in shaping consciousness. In a series of video works focused on professional sports events—including basketball, boxing, and hockey—Pfeiffer digitally removes the bodies of the players from the games, shifting the viewer’s focus to the spectators, sports equipment, or trophies won. Presented on small LCD screens and often looped, these intimate and idealized video works are meditations on faith, desire, and a contemporary culture ob...

Pristine beaches, turquoise waters, breathtaking paradise landscapes, all make the Philippines simply unforgettable. Incredibly deep culture and traditions, amazing food, and the warmest people you'll ever meet, are the reasons you're gonna want to come back. Strolling around Manila or Cebu city, living in some remote North Luzon villages, travelling across Leyte and Samar, was as intense as laying on some secluded heavenly beach in Palawan, as chasing waterfalls in Mindanao, as climbing volcanoes in Mindoro and Albay. WeCelebrate had a chance to shoot a 3 day event on an enchanting Temple of Hare Krishna this last weekend at the Vraj Eco Village - ISKCON Temple, Laguna, Philippines. It was a wonderful experience that we all got a chance to personally witness a very rich tradition and cultural practice from thousand and thousands of years ago. Devotees came from different countries to feast and savor ecstatic music called Kirtan and honor vegetarian food that is offered to their Lord Krishna called Prasadam. Everyone is full awake at 4:30am to observe morning programs, chant mantras and practice meditation. The event was so spiritual that we can not deny that we too have felt the kindness and humility of the devotees. Here is the video highlight we made for the said event.

Retrospective: the developing work of an artist over time. Also, looking back on, contemplating, or directed to the past. Two Fold's Retrospective series is dedicated to all creatives from all known (and unknown) fields of art. We will be featuring up-and-coming artists as well as artists and forms of art that have long been forgotten. In the process, we also ask ourselves—what makes something a work of art? What makes art valuable? And ultimately, what does art mean to an artist? Lately, the concept of food as art has been more prominent than ever. These chefs, much like any artist, put in a lot of passion and effort into their craft. After all, they whip up beautiful things and make them into tangible (and most importantly edible) art. Not knowing very much about the Philippines before I visited, I was pleasantly surprised by Manila and Subic and how they both reminded me of America. The highlight of the trip was getting a chance to visit a Vietnamese boat people refugee camp near Baataan. I met some friendly Pinoys too. The food was great. The transportation readily available. And the landscape extremely beautiful. There are plenty to see and do as well. -------------------------------------------------- About Me: I'm Kyle Le and I live, travel, and eat in Vietnam and many Asian countries. Three weeks before the trip my friend called me up and asked if I wanted to go to the Philippines on a Surf trip. He said "It's cheap as chips mate We will spend less there then we will at home" and I was sold. I checked the dairy and had nothing on so I thought why not. There are many surf spots to go in the Philippines but they are becoming incredible popular due to the high quality of waves and as I stated earlier, cheap Island life. So we picked Baler, a lesser known spot where we were hoping for less crowds. Baler delivered. Not only were we among the few few foreigners but the lineups were generally small and in some spots we were the only ones there. The locals there were super friendly and happy to show us around to the best spots and give us pointers along the way. Being only a ...
The World Before Me is a modern-day round the world trip, set to the words of a 19th century poet. “Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road, healthy, free, the world before me.” 160 years have passed since Walt Whitman penned this text, but feelings about travel remain the same. We’re still inspired by the open road and still excited by discovering the unknown. In the fall of 2015, while preparing for a trip that would take me literally around the world, I couldn't shake the desire to share the experience of travel, which for me is a very personal one. This film is the culmination of that desire. I carried my camera for 5 months through 15 countries. The endless metropolis of Tokyo, tiny islands of The Philippines, busy streets of India, the Swiss Alps and the Scottish Highland...

Argentina, the last country in my 6 months long trip to South America, we have finally come to an end. Argentina is one of the biggest country in South America and it would take more than a month to see them all. This is what a month of traveling looks like in Argentina. Buenos Aires was a great vibrant city! Bariloche is definitely the Switzerland of Argentina! Patagonia? Love everything about it, especially El Chalten and seeing Fitz Roy has always been my life goals. Ushuaia is cold but beautiful. To think that I was so near to Antarctica, and yet only 5000 USD away from going there. Maybe next time! Last but not least Iguazu Falls. There's waterfalls and then there's Iguazu Falls. Damn, this place blows my mind. I thought I have seen enough waterfalls in my life time but Iguazu was s...

The Philippines is blessed with so many natural wonders, and is full of diversity! Just when I thought I have seen every waterfall imaginable... This boiling hot beauty of a falls comes out of nowhere! Yes, the water is very warm! That isn't a foggy lens on my camera in the videos... That is natural steam from the heat! The area is raw. An island hopping adventure in the Philippines. Sun-drenched coconut palms gently swaying in the breeze, pristine beaches with hardly a soul in sight, the bluest of blue water lapping at your feet, and the friendliest locals you'll ever meet. I was one of four filmmakers sent to the Philippines by STA Travel as part of the Reel Philippines project. I took on the theme of Island Hopping where I had to give a travellers experience of Island Hopping in the Philippines. It really is a beautiful place to explore. The people on the islands live such a simple life, yet are so happy with what they have. It was an eye opening and humbling experience and I would love to go back sometime.
