A Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD or Ph.D. or DPhil) or a Doctorate of Philosophy, from the Latin Doctor Philosophiae (for DPhil) or Philosophiae Doctor (for PhD or Ph.D.), is a type of doctorate awarded by universities in many countries.
The degree varies considerably according to the country, institution, and time period, from entry-level research degrees to higher doctorates. A person who attains a doctorate of philosophy is automatically awarded the academic title of doctor. During the studies that lead to the degree, the student is called doctoral student or PhD student, but also "doctoral candidate" at the appropriate stage.
In the context of academic degrees, the term philosophy does not refer solely to the field of philosophy, but is used in a broader sense in accordance with its original Greek meaning, which is "love of wisdom". In most of Europe, all fields (history, philosophy, social sciences, mathematics and natural philosophy/natural sciences) other than theology, law, and medicine (the so-called professional, vocational, or technical curriculum) were traditionally known as philosophy, and in Germany and elsewhere in Europe the basic faculty of liberal arts was known as the faculty of philosophy.
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are autonomous public institutes of higher education, located in India. They are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 which has declared them as institutions of national importance, and lays down their powers, duties, and framework for governance etc. The Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 lists sixteen institutes located at Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai, Roorkee, Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Mandi, Patna, Ropar and Varanasi. Each IIT is an autonomous institution, linked to the others through a common IIT Council, which oversees their administration. The Union HRD Minister is the ex-officio Chairperson of IIT Council.
The IITs have a common admission process for undergraduate admissions, called IIT-JEE, which was replaced by Joint Entrance Examination Advanced in 2013. The post-graduate level program that awards M.Tech, MS degrees in engineering is administered by the older IITs (Kharagpur, Bombay, Madras, Kanpur, Delhi, Roorkee, Varanasi, Guwahati). M.Tech and MS admissions are done on the basis of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). In addition to B.Tech, M.Tech and MS programs, IITs also award other graduate degrees such as M.Sc in Maths, Physics and Chemistry, MBA, PhD etc. Admission to these programs of IITs is done through Common Admission Test(CAT), Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) and Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED). IIT Guwahati and IIT Bombay offer undergraduate design programmes as well. Joint Seat Allocation Authority 2015 (JoSAA 2015) conducted the joint admission process for a total of 18 IITs, ISM Dhanbad.

Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona (May 19, 1913 – February 11, 1992) was recognized as a kahuna lapaʻau (healer) in Hawaiʻi and taught her updated version of hoʻoponopono throughout the United States, Asia and Europe.
Morrnah was born May 19, 1913, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Kimokeo and Lilia Simeona, both native Hawaiians. Her mother, Lilia, was one of the last recognized kahuna laʻau kahea or priest who heals with words. Morrnah was a practitioner of lomilomi massage and for 10 years owned and operated health spas at the Kahala Hilton and Royal Hawaiian hotels. Among her massage clients at the Hilton spa were Lyndon B. Johnson, Jackie Kennedy and Arnold Palmer. In 1983, she was recognized as a kahuna lapaʻau (healer) and honored as a "Living Treasure of Hawai'i" by the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawai'i.
In 1976 she began to modify the traditional Hawaiian forgiveness and reconciliation process of hoʻoponopono to the realities of the modern day. Her version of hoʻoponopono was influenced by her Christian (Protestant and Catholic) education and her philosophical studies about India, China and Edgar Cayce. The combination of Hawaiian traditions, praying to the Divine Creator, and connecting problems with Reincarnation and Karma resulted in a unique new problem solving process, that was self-help rather than the traditional Hawaiian group process. She had no qualms about adapting traditional concepts to contemporary applications, though she was criticized by some Hawaiian purists. "Her system uses hoʻoponopono techniques to create a working partnership among the three parts of the mind or self, which she calls by Hawaiian names, as well as by the terms subconscious, conscious and superconscious."

Ok so maybe the steps aren't that easy, but they are what you need to do to get a PhD! 1. Get a degree in a relevant subject. Most people also study a masters. 2. Find a supervisor and project (and funding...) 3. You must perform original research (easier said than done) 4. Write a thesis 5. Defend your thesis in a viva A week as a PhD student: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLWKLGaqxVs Obviously this is all very hand wavy and approximate as I'm trying to cover all kinds of subjects, but these are the approximate steps that every PhD student goes through. Also some of the steps are someone more complex than others, with step 3 basically being the entire degree! If you'd like to learn more about my PhD then please check out videos on my channel where I talk about it in great detail, and...

Professor James Arvanitakis talks to us about 5 common mistakes that PhD candidates make during their study. 1. PhDs waste too much time in their first year of study. 2. PhDs forget about important administration matters. 3. PhDs don't start planning for their future careers. 4. PhDs cancel meetings with their supervisors. 5. PhDs don't take good notes during their time with supervisors. Do you agree with these points? What mistakes do you think research students make? Let us know in the comments below! Professor James Arvanitakis is the Dean of the Graduate Research School. This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Traditionally all PhDs went on to become academic professors. Times have changed. This speaker offers an idea to help prepare graduate students for the real world. Nadia Jaber is a graduate student at Stony Brook University, pursuing a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Her thesis work focuses on how mammalian cells discard the chemical signals used to communicate with one another. During her graduate training, she realized she wanted something different than the traditional academic career path that PhDs are geared for. Exploring her interests, she found a passion in science and health communications and has since begun the Advanced Certificate in Health Communications offered by the Alan Alda C...
A fun look at a typical day in the life of a PhD student.
Ayahuasca Hallucinations & Perception Stephen Beyer, Ph.D., relates ayahuasca hallucinations to recent research in cognitive neuropsychiatry, especially with regard to source monitoring, Charles Bonnet hallucinations, and gap-filling; and explores the relationship between ayahuasca hallucinations and other visionary experiences-lucid dreams, DMT journeys, out-of-body experiences, false awakenings, waking dreams, apparitions, eidetic visualization, and active imagination, all characterized by a greater or lesser degree of presentness, detail, externality, and three-dimensional explorable spacefulness. This video is from Psychedelic Science in the 21st Century, a conference taking in place in San Jose, California on April 15-18, 2010. The conference was organized by the Multidisciplinary A...

2011-2012 Archbishop's Lecture Series: Thomas F. Madden, Ph.D.
Thomas Seyfried, Ph.D. presenting at the 2nd Annual Ancestral Health Symposium (AHS12). Abstract: Despite modest advances in the standard of care, malignant cancer persists as a major disease of morbidity and mortality in children and adults. As a metabolic disorder involving the dysregulation of respiration, malignant brain cancer can be managed through changes in metabolic environment. In contrast to normal neurons and glia, which transition to ketone bodies (beta-hydroxybutyrate) for respiratory energy when glucose levels are reduced, malignant brain tumors are mostly dependent on non-oxidative substrate level phosphorylation due to structural and functional abnormalities in mitochondria. Glucose and glutamine are major fuels for malignant cancer cells. The transition from gluc...

Stephan Beyer, Ph.D. “Ayahuasca, Cognitive Psychology, and the Ontology of Hallucination” There is no doubt that the sacred plant ayahuasca can produce hallucinations under just about any definition of the term — visual experiences that are solid, detailed, three-dimensional, animated, interactive, and embedded in ordinary perceptual space; auditory experiences that are immediate, external, directional, locatable in space, and often coordinated with visual experiences. These experiences are similar in striking ways to lucid dreams, DMT journeys, scopolamine overdose, out-of-body experiences, false awakenings, waking dreams, apparitions, eidetic visualization, and active imagination — what we can call “visionary experiences,” all characterized to a lesser or greater degree of presentness,...
Chorus:
Girl I get dat cold sweat
Creepin' up on me
I ache when you shake it
Girl I'm just a freak
Yeah, you set dat cold sweat
Trippin' on me
Burnin' with the fever
Girl you're killing me
Girl you're kinda freaky
Got something 'bout your smile
And when you bounce it up and down
I can't believe my eyes
I got to give you respect
Cos you know how to tease
Keep on walking I'll keep talkin'
You would not believe
Bridge:
What I would do
With a girl like you
Keep your body rockin'
I ain't gonna stop I just want you
And you know
It's shockin' when you rock it
I'm a sick, sick man cos
(Chorus)
Girl I'm just a freak
In need of therapy
I count the ounce in every bounce
And I just want to feast
I love the way you work it
I love the way you grind
Ya got da funk in every pump
If you could read my mind
Bridge
(Chorus)
Down
You're burnin' me down (x3)
I love the way shake now
Love the way you break now
Keep it comin' baby
I don't wanna hesitate now
You got me hooked every look makes me freeze
180 degrees you make me buckle at my knees
Crazy rump shaker sexy move maker
Baby bring it on
Better sooner than later
I feel a cold sweat creepin' up on me
We gotta get it on
Tell me what it's gonna be
(Bridge)
(Chorus until fade)
