A giant pearl with measure of 2.2 ft in lenght, 1 ft in width and 2ft in height and weighing around 34 kilos has been caught in the waters of Puerto Princesa, Palawan. According to estimates, this could be the largest pearl ever caught and could be worth around 10 million US Dollars. As of the moment, the alleged giant pearl is still being examined for authenticy.

A record-breaking giant pearl, reportedly 1ft wide and 2.2 ft in length, has gone on display 10 years after it was first discovered off the coast of Palawan Island, Philippines in 2006. The enormous pearl was found by fisherman who cast down his anchor and it got wedged on a rock during a storm. Giant clams can reach over four feet in length and very rarely produce pearls, making this discovery extremely rare. A Filipino fisherman in western Palawan island has found possibly the world’s biggest pearl, but he didn’t know it. For 10 years, the 34-kilogram (75-pound) pearl was hidden in a bag under a bed. The fisherman’s family would rub it with their hands before going out to sea in the belief it would bring them luck, said relative Aileen Amurao. This giant pearl could be the biggest ever found in the world and five times larger than the previous record - after being handed in by a fisherman.It’s only when a fire destroyed his home and he was forced to move that the superstitious fisherman decided to hand it to the tourism office in Puerto Princesa. The piece is believed to be the biggest natural giant clam pearl in the world with an estimated value of more than $100 million.

Human egg or pearl? Peritoneal Loose Body - Surgeons at Washington, D.C. hospital discovered inside a 62-year-old patient looks like a giant egg, and parts of it had a "firm and rubbery" texture similar to a hard-boiled egg.
But this was no egg.
It's called a peritoneal loose body, and according to one of the doctors that had it surgically removed, this is the largest specimen of its kind reported in medical literature to date.
"The mass was likely made of a small piece of fat that fell away from its attachments when the patient was very young. Over time the fat calcified and continued to grow," urologist Dr. Rachael Sussman told The Huffington Post.
"Like a pearl inside an oyster."
The peritoneal loose body was removed in 2013 but a report on it was recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Peritoneal loose bodies develop inside the abdominal cavity. While they're not uncommon, they're usually much smaller than this.
"There have been studies on these bodies in the past and serial imaging shows they move depending on patient position," Sussman said.
"In fact due to this feature they are sometimes referred to as 'peritoneal mice.'"
The mass measured about 3.34 inches at its midline, and weighed about half a pound.

PUERTO PRINCESA, PHILIPPINES — Quite a few Asian countries call themselves the Pearl of the Orient, but never has the Philippines deserved the moniker more than now,
with the discovery of this huge gem.
The Puerto Princesa Tourism Office in Palawan recently unveiled a monstrous pearl measuring 67 centimeters long and 30 centimeters wide and weighing 34 kilograms.
A tourism officer posted the photos of the pearl on Facebook, with a call for gemologists to certify its authenticity so that the city can use it to vy for the title of world’s biggest natural giant clam pearl. The current record holder is the Pearl of Lao Tzu, which weighs 6.4 kilograms.
According to Palawan News, the monstrous pearl was turned over to the tourism office for safekeeping by a local fisherman. The man found the priceless gem in the waters off Palawan a decade ago, discovering it inside a giant clam that got stuck on his boat’s anchor. He had no idea how much it was worth, and just kept it under his bed as a good luck charm.
The pearl is reportedly valued at $100 million.

Giant clam, Tridacna gigas, from Palau, received at the Waikiki Aquarium June 26, 1982. Video shows a progression of scenes during its 30 years at the Aquarium. The clam (aka "Gigas-77") was estimated to be 5 years old when it was obtained, and as of 2012 is 35 years old making it the longest-lived giant clam in any aquarium and very possibly the largest too. Pearl
A pearl is a hard object produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusc. Just like the shell of a clam, a pearl is composed of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has been deposited in concentric layers. The ideal pearl is perfectly round and smooth, but many other shapes (baroque pearls) occur. The finest quality natural pearls have been highly valued as gemstones and objects of beauty for many centuries. Because of this, pearl has become a metaphor for something rare, fine, admirable and valuable.
The most valuable pearls occur spontaneously in the wild, but are extremely rare. These wild pearls are referred to as natural pearls. Cultured or farmed pearls from pearl oysters and freshwater mussels make up the majority of those currently sold. Imitation pearls are also widely sold in inexpensive jewelry, but the quality of their iridescence is usually very poor and is easily distinguished from that of genuine pearls. Pearls have been harvested and cultivated primarily for use in jewelry, but in the past were also used to adorn clothing. They have also been crushed and used in cosmetics, medicines and paint formulations.

The Producer
"The Producer" is the fourth episode of the third season of Gilligan's Island, in which the castaways stage a musical version of Hamlet. It first aired in on October 3, 1966.
Synopsis
After curmudgeonly film producer Harold Hecuba (Phil Silvers) crash lands near the island during an around-the-world talent hunt, the castaways are forced to tolerate him until his rescue plane arrives. When Ginger asks him for a role in his next movie however, Mr. Hecuba laughs at the idea, causing Ginger to become so upset that she refuses to return to civilization with the rest of the castaways.
Hoping to change Mr. Hecuba's mind, Gilligan suggests that they perform a play for Mr. Hecuba so that he might reconsider Ginger's talent and ultimately decide to use her in a movie. From the limited resources available on the island, they create a musical version of William Shakespeare's Hamlet. The cast performs three songs for their show. These parody the "To be or not to be" speech of Act III, Scene 1; the "Get thee to a nunnery" exchange between Hamlet and Ophelia later in the same scene, and Polonius's "Neither a borrower nor a lender be" speech from Act I, Scene III.

Puerto Princesa
Puerto Princesa, officially City of Puerto Princesa (Filipino: Lungsod ng Puerto Princesa) and often referred to as Puerto Princesa City, is a city located in the western provincial island of Palawan, Philippines. Though the provincial seat of government for Palawan, the city itself is one of 38 independent cities within the Philippines not controlled by the province in which it is geographically located and is therefore an independent area located within Palawan.
As of 2010, Puerto Princesa had a population of 222,673 people, making it the least densely populated city in the Philippines. In terms of land area, the city is the second largest geographically after Davao City with an area of 2,381.02 square kilometres (919.32 sq mi). It's called a peritoneal loose body, and according to one of the doctors that had it surgically removed, this is the largest specimen of its kind reported in medical literature to date. "The mass was likely made of a small piece of fat that fell away from its attachments when the patient was very young. Over time the fat calcified and continued to grow," urologist Dr. Rachael Sussman told The Huffington Post. "Like a pearl inside an oyster." The peritoneal loose body was removed in 2013 but a report on it was recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Peritoneal loose bodies develop inside the abdominal cavity. While they're not uncommon, they're usually much smaller than this. "There have been studies on these bodies in the past and serial imaging shows they move depending on patient position," Sussman said. "In fact due to this feature they are sometimes referred to as 'peritoneal mice.'" The mass measured about 3.34 inches at its midline, and weighed about half a pound. A 34-year-old man, James Humphries, from Cornwall, United Kingdom got a real shock after he purchased two fresh oysters to cure his hangover. Once he dug in, Humphries felt a lump in his mouth and initially believed that he had lost a filing. What he spat out was a flawless, round pearl. The family business that sold him the oysters claims that they have never seen a pearl come out of any Pacific oysters in 80 years of business. Humphries plans on keep the pearl, stating "I'm thinking of getting it made into a piece of jewelry, possibly a little silver fish with the pearl for its eye." In 2011, another lucky diner hit the pearl jackpot. The woman from Houston pulled out a purple pearl from her mouth after she went out to lunch with her boss for Fat Tuesday at Mardi Gras Grill. When she returned to work, the woman began researching, apparently she found that the odds of discovering one were about 1 in 2 million. -

So when archaeologists from the University of Wollongong (UOW) and the University of New England (UNE) uncovered a 2000-year-old near-round pearl on the north Kimberly coast of Western Australia, they described it as 'irreplaceable.' The details of the findings have been published in the journal Australian Archaeology. The paper's lead author, Associate Professor Kat Szabó from UOW explained the challenges in determining the pearl's age, “Pearls have not been recovered before from ancient sites in Australia. Since the find is unique, analysis could not damage or take samples from any portion of the pearl, so researchers from UOW developed a range of non-destructive analyses to gather more information." Radiocarbon analysis was used on the surrounding shell material to evaluate its age. Furthermore, in order to determine that it was indeed a natural pearl, researchers utilized micro-computed tomography to examine the pearl's internal structures. Brent Koppel, the paper's second author, noted, “This analysis confirmed that it was a natural pearl that had grown inside a small pearl oyster for over a decade before the animal was harvested for eating,” The pearl will be displayed at the Western Australian Maritime Museum starting June 20th. -

A 62-year-old man was found to have a 'giant ball of fat' inside him, pressing on his bladder and causing him to constantly need the loo. The man came to hospital complaining he had felt a frequent urge to urinate for more than 20 years. Doctors examined him physically and sent samples away to the laboratory, but found nothing out of the ordinary. Reporting his case in the New England Journal of Medicine, they said a CT scan of his abdomen revealed a giant mass pressing on the bladder. They sent a camera into his abdomen and, curiously, found a lump they described as ‘free-floating, smooth, firm and rubbery’. The mass measured an incredible 10cm in length and was by 7.5cm wide. It weighed 220g, which is heavier than a large orange. Doctors said the lump, which looked like a giant boiled egg, was a ‘peritoneal loose body’. This a mass that is thought to form when epiploic appendages - when pouches of fat wrapped in the colon’s membrane – are twisted away so they become detached and loose. They transform into fibrous lumps and become calcified. In previous reports in the same journal, doctors say that any giant loose mass more than 5cm wide is rare, and there are only a few reports in medical literature. The peritoneal loose bodies often have no symptoms when they are small. But when large enough, they can obstruct the bowel, block the bladder and cause retention of urine, or – as in this case, the sensation of needing the loo. After having the mass surgically removed, the man no longer felt like he needed to urinate frequently. Doctors then dyed the mass with green ink to show the different layers. It contained a layer of fibrous tissue, protein and fibrous material in the centre surrounded by a ring of calcified tissue. A 62-year-old man was found to have a 'giant ball of fat' inside him, pressing on his bladder and causing him to constantly need the loo. The man came to hospital complaining he had felt a frequent urge to urinate for more than 20 years. Doctors examined him physically and sent samples away to the laboratory, but found nothing out of the ordinary. But this was no egg.
It's called a peritoneal loose body, and according to one of the doctors that had it surgically removed, this is the largest specimen of its kind reported in medical literature to date.
"The mass was likely made of a small piece of fat that fell away from its attachments when the patient was very young. Over time the fat calcified and continued to grow," urologist Dr. Rachael Sussman told The Huffington Post.
"Like a pearl inside an oyster."
The peritoneal loose body was removed in 2013 but a report on it was recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Peritoneal loose bodies develop inside the abdominal cavity. While they're not uncommon, they're usually much smaller than this.
"There have been studies on these bodies in the past and serial imaging shows they move depending on patient position," Sussman said.
"In fact due to this feature they are sometimes referred to as 'peritoneal mice.'"
The mass measured about 3.34 inches at its midline, and weighed about half a pound.

The Puerto Princesa Tourism Office in Palawan recently unveiled a monstrous pearl measuring 67 centimeters long and 30 centimeters wide and weighing 34 kilograms.
A tourism officer posted the photos of the pearl on Facebook, with a call for gemologists to certify its authenticity so that the city can use it to vy for the title of world’s biggest natural giant clam pearl. The current record holder is the Pearl of Lao Tzu, which weighs 6.4 kilograms.
According to Palawan News, the monstrous pearl was turned over to the tourism office for safekeeping by a local fisherman. The man found the priceless gem in the waters off Palawan a decade ago, discovering it inside a giant clam that got stuck on his boat’s anchor. He had no idea how much it was worth, and just kept it under his bed as a good luck charm.
The pearl is reportedly valued at $100 million.

PUERTO PRINCESA, PHILIPPINES — Quite a few Asian countries call themselves the Pearl of the Orient, but never has the Philippines deserved the moniker more than now,
with the discovery of this huge gem.
The Puerto Princesa Tourism Office in Palawan recently unveiled a monstrous pearl measuring 67 centimeters long and 30 centimeters wide and weighing 34 kilograms.
A tourism officer posted the photos of the pearl on Facebook, with a call for gemologists to certify its authenticity so that the city can use it to vy for the title of world’s biggest natural giant clam pearl. The current record holder is the Pearl of Lao Tzu, which weighs 6.4 kilograms.
According to Palawan News, the monstrous pearl was turned over to the tourism office for safekeeping by a local fisherman. The man found the priceless gem in the waters off Palawan a decade ago, discovering it inside a giant clam that got stuck on his boat’s anchor. He had no idea how much it was worth, and just kept it under his bed as a good luck charm.
The pearl is reportedly valued at $100 million.

A 34-year-old man, James Humphries, from Cornwall, United Kingdom got a real shock after he purchased two fresh oysters to cure his hangover.
Once he dug in, Humphries felt a lump in his mouth and initially believed that he had lost a filing. What he spat out was a flawless, round pearl. The family business that sold him the oysters claims that they have never seen a pearl come out of any Pacific oysters in 80 years of business.
Humphries plans on keep the pearl, stating "I'm thinking of getting it made into a piece of jewelry, possibly a little silver fish with the pearl for its eye."
In 2011, another lucky diner hit the pearl jackpot. The woman from Houston pulled out a purple pearl from her mouth after she went out to lunch with her boss for Fat Tuesday at Mardi Gras Grill.
When she returned to work, the woman began researching, apparently she found that the odds of discovering one were about 1 in 2 million.

So when archaeologists from the University of Wollongong (UOW) and the University of New England (UNE) uncovered a 2000-year-old near-round pearl on the north Kimberly coast of Western Australia, they described it as 'irreplaceable.'
The details of the findings have been published in the journal Australian Archaeology.
The paper's lead author, Associate Professor Kat Szabó from UOW explained the challenges in determining the pearl's age, “Pearls have not been recovered before from ancient sites in Australia. Since the find is unique, analysis could not damage or take samples from any portion of the pearl, so researchers from UOW developed a range of non-destructive analyses to gather more information."
Radiocarbon analysis was used on the surrounding shell material to evaluate its age.
Furthermore, in order to determine that it was indeed a natural pearl, researchers utilized micro-computed tomography to examine the pearl's internal structures.
Brent Koppel, the paper's second author, noted, “This analysis confirmed that it was a natural pearl that had grown inside a small pearl oyster for over a decade before the animal was harvested for eating,”
The pearl will be displayed at the Western Australian Maritime Museum starting June 20th.

A 62-year-old man was found to have a 'giant ball of fat' inside him, pressing on his bladder and causing him to constantly need the loo.
The man came to hospital complaining he had felt a frequent urge to urinate for more than 20 years.
Doctors examined him physically and sent samples away to the laboratory, but found nothing out of the ordinary.
Reporting his case in the New England Journal of Medicine, they said a CT scan of his abdomen revealed a giant mass pressing on the bladder.
They sent a camera into his abdomen and, curiously, found a lump they described as ‘free-floating, smooth, firm and rubbery’.
The mass measured an incredible 10cm in length and was by 7.5cm wide.
It weighed 220g, which is heavier than a large orange.
Doctors said the lump, which looked like a giant boiled egg, was a ‘peritoneal loose body’.
This a mass that is thought to form when epiploic appendages - when pouches of fat wrapped in the colon’s membrane – are twisted away so they become detached and loose.
They transform into fibrous lumps and become calcified.
In previous reports in the same journal, doctors say that any giant loose mass more than 5cm wide is rare, and there are only a few reports in medical literature.
The peritoneal loose bodies often have no symptoms when they are small.
But when large enough, they can obstruct the bowel, block the bladder and cause retention of urine, or – as in this case, the sensation of needing the loo.
After having the mass surgically removed, the man no longer felt like he needed to urinate frequently.
Doctors then dyed the mass with green ink to show the different layers.
It contained a layer of fibrous tissue, protein and fibrous material in the centre surrounded by a ring of calcified tissue.

Doctors examined him physically and sent samples away to the laboratory, but found nothing out of the ordinary.
Reporting his case in the New England Journal of Medicine, they said a CT scan of his abdomen revealed a giant mass pressing on the bladder.
They sent a camera into his abdomen and, curiously, found a lump they described as ‘free-floating, smooth, firm and rubbery’.
The mass measured an incredible 10cm in length and was by 7.5cm wide.
It weighed 220g, which is heavier than a large orange.
Doctors said the lump, which looked like a giant boiled egg, was a ‘peritoneal loose body’.
This a mass that is thought to form when epiploic appendages - when pouches of fat wrapped in the colon’s membrane – are twisted away so they become detached and loose.
They transform into fibrous lumps and become calcified.
In previous reports in the same journal, doctors say that any giant loose mass more than 5cm wide is rare, and there are only a few reports in medical literature.
The peritoneal loose bodies often have no symptoms when they are small.
But when large enough, they can obstruct the bowel, block the bladder and cause retention of urine, or – as in this case, the sensation of needing the loo.
After having the mass surgically removed, the man no longer felt like he needed to urinate frequently.
Doctors then dyed the mass with green ink to show the different layers.
It contained a layer of fibrous tissue, protein and fibrous material in the centre surrounded by a ring of calcified tissue.

In this video I have an amazing pearl excavation kit. You can find these on Amazon. Inside the kit is a large shell and I get to dig it open. This shell is chock full of pearls. A record-breaking giant pearl, reportedly 1ft wide and 2.2 ft in length, has gone on display 10 years after it was first discovered off the coast of Palawan Island, Philippines in 2006. The enormous pearl was found by fisherman who cast down his anchor and it got wedged on a rock during a storm. Giant clams can reach over four feet in length and very rarely produce pearls, making this discovery extremely rare. A Filipino fisherman in western Palawan island has found possibly the world’s biggest pearl, but he didn’t know it. For 10 years, the 34-kilogram (75-pound) pearl was hidden in a bag under a bed. The fisherman’s family would rub it with their hands before going out to sea in the belief it would bring them luck, said relative Aileen Amurao. This giant pearl could be the biggest ever found in the world and five times larger than the previous record - after being handed in by a fisherman.It’s only when a fire destroyed his home and he was forced to move that the superstitious fisherman decided to hand it to the tourism office in Puerto Princesa. The piece is believed to be the biggest natural giant clam pearl in the world with an estimated value of more than $100 million.

Human egg or pearl? Peritoneal Loose Body - Surgeons at Washington, D.C. hospital discovered inside a 62-year-old patient looks like a giant egg, and parts of it had a "firm and rubbery" texture similar to a hard-boiled egg.
But this was no egg.
It's called a peritoneal loose body, and according to one of the doctors that had it surgically removed, this is the largest specimen of its kind reported in medical literature to date.
"The mass was likely made of a small piece of fat that fell away from its attachments when the patient was very young. Over time the fat calcified and continued to grow," urologist Dr. Rachael Sussman told The Huffington Post.
"Like a pearl inside an oyster."
The peritoneal loose body was removed in 2013 but a report on it was recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Peritoneal loose bodies develop inside the abdominal cavity. While they're not uncommon, they're usually much smaller than this.
"There have been studies on these bodies in the past and serial imaging shows they move depending on patient position," Sussman said.
"In fact due to this feature they are sometimes referred to as 'peritoneal mice.'"
The mass measured about 3.34 inches at its midline, and weighed about half a pound.

The Puerto Princesa Tourism Office in Palawan recently unveiled a monstrous pearl measuring 67 centimeters long and 30 centimeters wide and weighing 34 kilograms.
A tourism officer posted the photos of the pearl on Facebook, with a call for gemologists to certify its authenticity so that the city can use it to vy for the title of world’s biggest natural giant clam pearl. The current record holder is the Pearl of Lao Tzu, which weighs 6.4 kilograms.
According to Palawan News, the monstrous pearl was turned over to the tourism office for safekeeping by a local fisherman. The man found the priceless gem in the waters off Palawan a decade ago, discovering it inside a giant clam that got stuck on his boat’s anchor. He had no idea how much it was worth, and just kept it under his bed as a good luck charm.
The pearl is reportedly valued at $100 million.

Once he dug in, Humphries felt a lump in his mouth and initially believed that he had lost a filing. What he spat out was a flawless, round pearl. The family business that sold him the oysters claims that they have never seen a pearl come out of any Pacific oysters in 80 years of business.
Humphries plans on keep the pearl, stating "I'm thinking of getting it made into a piece of jewelry, possibly a little silver fish with the pearl for its eye."
In 2011, another lucky diner hit the pearl jackpot. The woman from Houston pulled out a purple pearl from her mouth after she went out to lunch with her boss for Fat Tuesday at Mardi Gras Grill.
When she returned to work, the woman began researching, apparently she found that the odds of discovering one were about 1 in 2 million.

So when archaeologists from the University of Wollongong (UOW) and the University of New England (UNE) uncovered a 2000-year-old near-round pearl on the north Kimberly coast of Western Australia, they described it as 'irreplaceable.'
The details of the findings have been published in the journal Australian Archaeology.
The paper's lead author, Associate Professor Kat Szabó from UOW explained the challenges in determining the pearl's age, “Pearls have not been recovered before from ancient sites in Australia. Since the find is unique, analysis could not damage or take samples from any portion of the pearl, so researchers from UOW developed a range of non-destructive analyses to gather more information."
Radiocarbon analysis was used on the surrounding shell material to evaluate its age.
Furthermore, in order to determine that it was indeed a natural pearl, researchers utilized micro-computed tomography to examine the pearl's internal structures.
Brent Koppel, the paper's second author, noted, “This analysis confirmed that it was a natural pearl that had grown inside a small pearl oyster for over a decade before the animal was harvested for eating,”
The pearl will be displayed at the Western Australian Maritime Museum starting June 20th.

A 62-year-old man was found to have a 'giant ball of fat' inside him, pressing on his bladder and causing him to constantly need the loo.
The man came to hospital complaining he had felt a frequent urge to urinate for more than 20 years.
Doctors examined him physically and sent samples away to the laboratory, but found nothing out of the ordinary.
Reporting his case in the New England Journal of Medicine, they said a CT scan of his abdomen revealed a giant mass pressing on the bladder.
They sent a camera into his abdomen and, curiously, found a lump they described as ‘free-floating, smooth, firm and rubbery’.
The mass measured an incredible 10cm in length and was by 7.5cm wide.
It weighed 220g, which is heavier than a large orange.
Doctors said the lump, which looked like a giant boiled egg, was a ‘peritoneal loose body’.
This a mass that is thought to form when epiploic appendages - when pouches of fat wrapped in the colon’s membrane – are twisted away so they become detached and loose.
They transform into fibrous lumps and become calcified.
In previous reports in the same journal, doctors say that any giant loose mass more than 5cm wide is rare, and there are only a few reports in medical literature.
The peritoneal loose bodies often have no symptoms when they are small.
But when large enough, they can obstruct the bowel, block the bladder and cause retention of urine, or – as in this case, the sensation of needing the loo.
After having the mass surgically removed, the man no longer felt like he needed to urinate frequently.
Doctors then dyed the mass with green ink to show the different layers.
It contained a layer of fibrous tissue, protein and fibrous material in the centre surrounded by a ring of calcified tissue.

A pearl is a hard object produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusk. Just like the shell of a clam, a pearl is composed of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has been deposited in concentric layers. The ideal pearl is perfectly round and smooth, but many other shapes (baroque pearls) occur. The finest quality natural pearls have been highly valued as gemstones and objects of beauty for many centuries. Because of this, pearl has become a metaphor for something rare, fine, admirable and valuable.
The most valuable pearls occur spontaneously in the wild, but are extremely rare. These wild pearls are referred to as natural pearls. Cultured or farmed pearls from pearl oysters and freshwater mussels make up the majority of those currently sold. Welcome to DOCUMENTARY - home of the best documentary films and documentary movies!
A pearl is a hard object produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusk. Just like the shell of a clam, a pearl is composed of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has been deposited in concentric layers. The ideal pearl is perfectly round and smooth, but many other shapes (baroque pearls) occur. The finest quality natural pearls have been highly valued as gemstones and objects of beauty for many centuries. Because of this, pearl has become a metaphor for something rare, fine, admirable and valuable.
The most valuable pearls occur spontaneously in the wild, but are extremely rare. These wild pearls are referred to as natural pearls. Cultured or farmed pearls from pearl oysters and freshwater mussels make up the majority of those currently sold.
