In European folklore, a revenant is a corpse that has returned from the grave to terrorize the living.
Revenant or variations thereof may also refer to:
The 20th century was a century that began on January 1, 1901 and ended on December 31, 2000. It was the tenth and final century of the 2nd millennium. It is distinct from the century known as the 1900s (sometimes written as 19XX), which began on January 1, 1900 and ended on December 31, 1999.
Dubbed the "short twentieth century", this century in human history was dominated by chain of events that heralded significant changes in world history as to redefine the era: World War I and World War II, nationalism and decolonization, the Cold War and Post-Cold War conflicts, cultural homogenization through developments in transportation and communications technology, world population growth, awareness of environmental degradation, ecological extinction and the birth of the Digital Revolution. It saw great advances in communication and medical technology that by the late 1980s allowed for near-instantaneous worldwide computer communication and genetic modification of life.
The century had the first global-scale total wars between world powers across continents and oceans in World War I and World War II. Nationalism became a major political issue in the world in the 20th century, acknowledged in international law along with the right of nations to self-determination, official decolonization in the mid-century, and nationalist-influenced armed regional-conflicts.
A revenant is a visible ghost or animated corpse that was believed to return from the grave to terrorize the living. The word "revenant" is derived from the Latin word, reveniens, "returning" (see also the related French verb "revenir", meaning "to come back").
Vivid stories of revenants arose in Western Europe (especially Great Britain, and were later carried by Anglo-Norman invaders to Ireland) during the High Middle Ages. Revenants were also known in old Irish Celtic mythology as the neamh mairbh. Though later legend and folklore depicts revenants as returning for a specific purpose (e.g., revenge against the deceased's killer), in most Medieval accounts they return to harass their surviving families and neighbours. Revenants share a number of characteristics with folkloric vampires.
Many stories were documented by English historians in the Middle Ages. William of Newburgh wrote in the 1190s, "It would not be easy to believe that the corpses of the dead should sally (I know not by what agency) from their graves, and should wander about to the terror or destruction of the living, and again return to the tomb, which of its own accord spontaneously opened to receive them, did not frequent examples, occurring in our own times, suffice to establish this fact, to the truth of which there is abundant testimony."

Revenant premiere their brand new music video and single "The Virus" , from their forthcoming full-length record. Chugcore Exclusive Premiere! Lyrics: Feel the virus coursing through your bones, when you're alone it will slither away, subjugating innocents, infecting all the hypocrites. Shrouding minds in scripture. A flick of the finger, an anointing of the tongue, purified darkness, depression is love. I feel the eyes all around me. The congregation whispers in sadness. They're peeling off their skin to pay tribute to the Sabbath It takes our blood. It takes our kin. How can we be happy when we're born in sin? This preservation of everything you know in loved; forged in ire by evil lungs Inflections of the meek begin to creep inside these broken minds, bleeding out insurgency pre...

We've been leaving too many tracks,
The last unit of the pack still seeks our bones.
I thought that dominance meant more to these dogs...
Stop dragging your feet -
You want to end up like everyone else?
You want to end up like them?
You want to end up like everyone else?
This is my eternity, and I'm never backing down.
This is my eternity, and I'm never backing down.
Whatever made it easier for them to live,
They'll feed themselves to death.
I feel everything you've done is unspeakable.
Dove wings were scattered about after the mass.
No war song in my wake,
You can have it all back.
I couldn't aid in the hunt,
You can have it all back.
This is my eternity, and I'm never backing down.
This is my eternity, and I'm never backing down.
Whatever made it easier for them to live,
They'll feed themselves to death.
Hold your hands in the shape of a dove towards the light,
And see my twisted body in the shadows.
No matter how battered,
No matter how many broken bones,
I'll haunt what's left.
I'll haunt what's left in the shape of a cross on the side of the road.
In the shape of a cross on the side of the road I'll haunt what's left.
