The roll out of the National Broadband Network is set to ramp-up across WA, with nearly 200,000 houses and businesses set to connect to the network in coming months.
Works in suburbs such as Tuart Hill, Yokine, Ballajura, Mirrabooka, Edgewater, Wanneroo, Mount Lawley, Dalkeith, Nedlands, Karrinyup, Scarborough, Gooseberry Hill and Kalamunda are aimed to be completed by December this year.
Corporate affairs manager for nbn WA, Ebony Aitkin, said the company continued to add an average of 100,000 new properties nationally per week, and they hoped to complete their WA expansion by 2020.
"With the national rollout now at the halfway mark, our team will continue to ramp-up work to build the network to help meet the demand in Perth," she said.
A nbn spokesman said building would begin in late July.
"On average it takes around six to nine months from the start of construction until consumers and businesses can order services over the nbn network from their retail service provider," he said.
Ms Aitkin also stressed customers were partly responsible for the efficiency of the system.
"To ensure residents get the best possible internet experience, it's important they speak with their preferred retail service provider and discuss a speed and data plan which suits their needs," she said.
"Speeds experienced over the nbn network are influenced by a range of factors such as the technology used to deliver the network as well as equipment quality, broadband plans, signal reception and the age of the smart devices being used to connect to the internet."
The six month roll out is expected to include rural areas such as Dampier, Newman, Paraburdoo, Port Hedland, Tom Price, Denham, Carnarvon and Exmouth.
An nbn spokesman said the decision to roll out in the regions was motivated by a need to "prioritise under-served areas where possible".
The exact number of premises and the regions covered may vary once nbn has finalised construction planning.
There are more than 590,000 of homes and businesses in Western Australia which can already connect to the nbn network.
