DOT DASH

My new favourite band and it will be yours too, soon.
To me they do sound very much like BIFF BANG POW only more contemporary. And I think there is nothing that can be more CREATION-like than this - considering that ALAN McGEE, Mr. BIFF BANG POW, founded the CREATION label. (Which is my favourite label besides FONTANA.)

DOT DASH is a post punk pop band from Washington D.C.
If this bio had one of those “RIYL/Recommended If You Like” sections, it might drop names like THE JAM, JOY DIVISION, or THE BYRDS… or perhaps it would bring up an apparent appreciation by Dot Dash for the ancient sounds of the POSTCARD, WHAAM and early CREATION labels…
But those kinds of judgments can really only be made by you, the listener.
As is often the case, Dot Dash has a whole “they are ex-members of” thing going on:
Guitarist/singer Terry Banks and bassist Hunter Bennett were in punky power poppers JULIE OCEAN.
Before that, Terry was in a bunch of jangly guitar bands, including THE SATURDAY PEOPLE, TREE FORT ANGST, GLO-WORM and ST. CHRISTOPHER.Guitarist Bill Crandall was in the mod/pop band MODEST PROPOSAL.
Drummer Danny Ingram began musical life in Dischord-label punks YOUTH BRIGADE before moving on to STRANGE BOUTIQUE and, later, U.K. guitar-wranglers SWERVEDRIVER.
Dot Dash plays shows, mostly around D.C., but occasionally out of town, whenever they can. In the recent past they’ve opened for Urge Overkill, The Godfathers, The Trash Can Sinatras, and The Capstan Shafts, among others.
SPARK>FLAME>EMBER>ASH is released by Canadian indie label The Beautiful Music.
Have a listen and love DOT DASH with me:

ANDY PAWLAK Blood And Feathers

I know that a lot of readers are keen on more songs from great ANDY PAWLAK.
Some interesting background information from Andy:
"Is it is full of dropouts and pops 'cos it really is a DEMO but I totally dig the song. This is the type of thing that was going to be on the album after "Shoebox". This one managed to survive and not get destroyed."

So you might get an idea of how the album would have sounded.

ANDY PAWLAK Edith

Very long overdue...
The next ANDY PAWLAK Demo... I know you have been very patient and this is your reward:
This one is the wonderful, wonderful song called "Edith" and it stunned me completely.

If I'm not wrong this one is from a demos cassette that Andy just copied to his HD with my usb cassette player.
There will be some more in the near future.

Like all the other demo artworks, this cover is also a collaboration of Andy and me.

COLDPLAY Left Right Left Right Left (2009)

This one was a gift and a free download from COLDPLAY in 2009.
It was also given to all cardholders coming to their concerts then.

And this is what was written on their www:

Good morning.
We're pleased to announce that Coldplay will be giving away a live CD, LeftRightLeftRightLeft, at every remaining live show in 2009 (apart from festival shows). Starting with the band's first North American tour date, at West Palm Beach in Florida on May 15th, every fan attending a show will be given a free copy of the nine-track CD, which won't be available elsewhere. Also on May 15th, LeftRightLeftRightLeft will be made available as a free download right here at Coldplay.com, for all fans (and for the same time period).

According to the band, the give-away is meant as a recession-busting mark of gratitude to everyone who's supported them: "Playing live is what we love. This album is a thank you to our fans – the people who give us a reason to do it and make it happen."

The album was recorded over the past year in various cities around the world on the Viva La Vida tour. Its tracklisting is as follows:

1. Glass of Water
2. 42
3. Clocks
4. Strawberry Swing
5. The Hardest Part/Postcards From Far Away
6. Viva La Vida
7. Death Will Never Conquer
8. Fix You
9. Death And All His Friends

Enjoy as much as I do!

ANDY PAWLAK Deep In You

Dear listeners, followers, friends and ANDY PAWLAK-addicts.
As announced ANDY wanted to take the chance to answer a few questions that are frequently asked here.

"Any plans to record something in the future?"

The simple answer is I just dont know. I was pretty badly burned by Universal after "Low Beat Folk" and I just thought fuck it.
I have always tried so hard with my songs and I thought enough is enough. I ain't touched a guitar in a while but you never know the feeling might come back. That's the strange thing about song writing - it comes when it comes, I dont really have any control over it,
I'm just the sucker who gets to write it down.

"Why was there no follow up after Shoebox?"
There was! and it was good but the record company didn't like it. It was a lot of very hard work wasted. It was more guitar based than "shoebox" more mature and tougher. There was some good songs that will never be heard. I was so upset I destroyed all the demos.
Thats when I decided to fuck off for a few years and went to San Francisco to do my helicopter stuff.
(From an earlier mail: I had just got out of my first record deal with Phonogram and fancied a change of direction so I grabbed my suitcase and a guitar and moved to San Francisco to to go to flight school. It took 7 months to get my commercial licence then I trained to become a flight instructor.I stayed in California about 5 years then came back to London and signed with Island Records to do Low Beat Folk. I had many amazing adventures flying, one of the best was flying to Michael Jacksons house (twice), and spending the afternoon pissing about in his golf cart around the ranch in never never land.)

"Why was Low Beat never released?"
Well for me that's the big question. I did 5 or so years in California and started to write again so I moved back to London to get a deal.
One of my dreams had always been to sign with Island Records, so I finished the album and put a band together called "Monkey".
Island went for it and" Low Beat Folk" was recorded. It took 3 years to write and record and I was so proud of the work we had all done..... Then out of the blue, Island were bought out by Universal and they dropped the project after spending a lot of money on it. I was so fucking gutted. I went to New York and secured a deal for it within 2 weeks. The contracts arrived, and I was about to sign, when I got word from Universal legal dept that they would not allow the recordings to be used. The Mother Fuckers effectivley shut us down. It broke my heart...

Thanks so much, Andy!
If you readers have any more questions let me know.

Today's song...:
This one is an incredible song from the album "Tales From The Monkeyshed" recorded under the name SUBDELUXE.
The album is available at iTunes (here) or sooner or later on THIS IS INDIE. Of course with ANDY PAWLAK's permission.

Download from Andy's site here.
