NEW NORTHERN SOUL Various Artists (2015)

Well, what exactly is NEW NORTHERN SOUL?
I don't even know if this technical term actually already exists - if not... then here it is - and what people define as NEW NORTHERN SOUL then.
I made the term up for my purpose now and this is what came out...
It is kind of an "Indie-Pop Organ-Brass-Driven Up-Tempo Dance Thing".
And these are my favourite representatives:

01 Are You Trying to Be Lonely? - PAUL WELLER & ANDY LEWIS
02 Upfield - BILLY BRAGG
03 Forever Unmasked - NEW STREET ADVENTURE
04 Silver Lining - STIFF LITTLE FINGERS
05 Saint Mary's Steps (Up Tempo Version) - FIRE NEXT TIME
06 Lean On Me (incl The Return Of The Modern Soul Classic) - REDSKINS
07 Wake Up Boo! - THE BOO RADLEYS
08 Move on Up - THE JAM

Of course it's not new at all but ahh - come on........

THE SMITHS IS DEAD (V.A.) (1996)

A few days ago I posted THE DIVINE COMEDY which made me upload this one here as they also appear on this sampler contributing a SMITHS cover.

There are some gems really.

01 The Queen Is Dead - The Boo Radleys
02 Frankly, Mr Shankly - The High Llamas
03 I Know It's Over - The Trash Can Sinatras
04 Never Had No One Ever - Billy Bragg
05 Cemetry Gates - Frank & Walters
06 Bigmouth Strikes Again - Placebo
07 The Boy with a Thorn in His Side - Bis
08 Vicar in a Tutu - Therapy?
09 There Is a Light That Never Goes Out - The Divine Comedy
10 Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others - Supergrass

but then again, to be honest, nothing can catch up with the original.
 A doomed endavour...
