ANDY PAWLAK Shoebox Full Of Secrets (1989)

My gift for you on Christmas Eve...
The most moving and beautiful pop album ever recorded.
Music for lovers, music for christmas, music from and for the heart.

ANDY PAWLAK once supported THE POGUES on a tour and the audience started throwing bottles at him while he stood on the stage solitarily.
He started playing his songs on his acoustic guitar and soon the audience stopped throwing and simply listened to his music, wouldn't even let him leave the stage.

This record is unique, special, a milestone!

ANDY PAWLAK - Shoebox Full Of Secrets (1989)
01 Secrets
02 You And Me
03 Mermaids

The next posts will contain material of a completely underrated and underestimated Scottish pop genius.

JAMES GRANT of LOVE AND MONEY says:

This email reached me in october:

JAMES GRANT NEWS

This is something I've always said I'd never do...but this year during a few of my solo shows, I've been playing more of my old songs and I think I've gradually accepted that this is okay now.
Why not, when in essence, people just want to hear them played again?
I did a particular show in June this year when the audience chose the songs; the gig was seventy five percent Love And Money. Thing is, I enjoyed it..

Five albums on as a solo artist, I feel as if I've put enough distance between me and my old band to be able to do this..
This is about getting together with old friends(and fans)and having a good time.

Apologies over.

So...

As part of Celtic Connections 2011, on Sunday January 16th at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, LOVE AND MONEY will be performing our two best albums in their entirety; Dogs In The Traffic and Strange Kind Of Love (it is the twenty fifth anniversary of this records release).

I'm giving you the heads up, tickets will be available from the 19th October.

I guess I'll see you there.

ENOUGH SAID...
These are just two of my favourite JAMES GRANT and LOVE AND MONEY songs:
James Grant - Does It All Add Up To Nothing
Love And Money - She Carved Her Name

SLAINTE, JAMES!!! I hope to see you there!!!

TERRY HALL & DUB PISTOLS (2007)

Sorry for the delay...
I had an accident last week and injured my ribs which made writing extremely painful and uncomfortable.
But here I am, back again and recovered.

The idea for today's post struck me this morning while I was listening to SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES "Rapture" and remembered TERRY HALL covering this song with the DUB PISTOLS.
So here we are with TERRY HALL covering SIOUXSIE, himself with THE SPECIALS, plus some other stuff from the DUB PISTOLS' 2007 release "Speakers And Tweeters":

Peaches feat Rodney P & Terry Hall
Running From The Thoughts feat Terry Hall
Rapture feat Terry Hall
Gangsters feat Terry Hall

"Gangsters" is extremely cool!!!!!

PRIMAL MONDAYS & HAPPY SCREAM DECADE (Vol.8) The Stone Roses

My mini series of my favourite early 1990s!

Did you know why Oasis were named Oasis?
The Stone Roses once played in a club called The Oasis and one of the Gallagher brothers saw them playing and decided to become a britpop star instead of a fuckin' R'n'B nobody.

I love THE STONE ROSES!

Love them with me!

KILLING JOKE RMXD (2007)

I bought this album mainly for the memory of the extended 12" remix version of "LOVE LIKE BLOOD" that takes me back to the years of my first girl friends, first nights out with mega black-outs from heavy drinking, holidays without my parents (see "mega black-outs") in greece, injuries without knowing where from, pure fun!

BETTY BOO Is Doin The Do (1990)

Yeah, I know...Very childish - BUT I really loved this woman.
(Well, mainly in a sexual way probably.)
And I danced my legs down to my knees!

BETTY BOO with her biggest hits:
from her 1990 Album BOOMANIA.
These songs kind of belong to my mini series of my favourite early 1990s.
But then again they represent an even earlier decade of juvenilism. Before my mindless heavy drinking ages.
Dance & have fun!

FIRE NEXT TIME North To South (1988)

I know a lot of people out there in www that are desperately looking for this mega album from FIRE NEXT TIME (and some of them would probably kill for the original copy).
This rebel rock band recorded one record only. Now there is one other band called THE FIRE NEXT TIME which has nothing in common with this scorcher from the 80s.
If you love the REDSKINS you will also love FIRE NEXT TIME!

THE CLASH You Lot! What? The Best Of The Clash!

Yeah I know...
But this one belongs to my Dub compilation!
There are too many CLASH Best Of releases. All with the same songs.
You will find most of them on this compilation but you will also find some surprises that would never ever find their ways onto any official Best Of because CBS means Countless Bloody Suckers (for success).
This here is a compilation of the major mega hits plus some nice and forgotten stuff from the regular records.
I just deleted my personal Best Of last year to compile a completely new one. THIS ONE:

01 Hate & War

THE CLASH Dub Clash

This month seems to be my "Best Of"-month by accident.
It was not supposed to be this way but... I really don't have any masterplan.

Today it's THE CLASH DUBS which gives me an enormous flash back of a barbecue at the beach with gallons of beer and wine.

Enjoy as much as I do especially on the other side of the world where summer is close at hand. (Closer than in the northern hemisphere where it's about to come to an end...)

WHAT DO WE HAVE FOR ENTERTAINMENT? THE CLASH!

OK listeners, downloaders, friends.

Statistics cannot lie...
Looking at my statistics one thing is more than obvious:
THE CLASH is all in all no.1 of my downloads.

My TOP20 downloads:
20 THE CLASH - Rockers Galore - Talk

Considering that PAUL WELLER's recent release "Wake Up The Nation" had more downloads in one day than the above mentioned no.1 has in full, the real no.1 is (although deleted by megaupload) PAUL WELLER. Nonetheless, THE CLASH is obviously the most demanded band of

Talking of "Best Ofs" there is one artist of whom quite a few have been released. And for a Morrissey-addict like me they were all a bit disappointing.

THE HOUSEMARTINS Now That's What I Call Fuckin' Brilliant!

On every regularly available "Best Of"-collection of any band in the world there are always songs that I personally would never ever
a) release as a single (e.g. "Zombie" of The Cranberries) or
b) put on a "Best Of" release - single or not.

Here is my personal "Best Of The Housemartins" because in my opinion "Now That's What I Call Quite Good!" was far behind their possibilities.

THE HOUSEMARTINS - Now That's What I Call Fuckin' Brilliant!

01 Happy Hour
02 Get Up Off Our Knees
03 Anxious
04 Reverends Revenge
05 Sitting On A Fence
06 Sheep
07 Over There
08 We're Not Deep
09 Freedom
10 The Mighty Ship
11 The People Who Grinned Themselves to Death
12 The World's on Fire
13 We're Not Going Back
14 Me and the Farmer
15 Five Get Over Excited
16 You Better Be Doubtful
17 Bow Down
18 Everyday's the Same
19 Drop Down Dead
20 Hopelessly Devoted to Them
21 Caravan of Love
22 Flag Day
23 The Light Is Always Green
24 Build

All killers - No fillers!(OK, except for the last 4 slow songs that should be on this compilation anyway.)
Enjoy as much as I do...

Personally, I only have them on a tape and in incredibly poor condition on vinyl.

THE GO-BETWEENS 1978-2006 - Pt.1

"On Saturday 6th May 2006, legendary Australian singer-songwriter and member of The Go-Betweens Grant McLennan died in his sleep at his home in Brisbane. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, whether personally or through his music."

This is the entry on the official Go-Betweens homepage.
Personally I was always more a Grant McLennan fan. To me Robert Forster seemed a bit too weird.
For you here now and in the upcoming posts my personal Best Of The Go-Betweens on 3 CDs!

THE SCREAMING TREES (UK) A Fracture In Time (1988)

In 1988 Industrial music ruled parts of the electronic world.
There was one electronic indie band that appeared and disappeared almost unnoticed from the scene although the record was very innovative and honestly f***ing brilliant -
A MILESTONE and somewhere between NEW ORDER and FRONT 242:

THE SCREAMING TREES from the UK with the following musicians involved:
Sean Maloney (bass & guitar)
Mark Swancott (vocals, guitar & drum programming)
Mark Ryan (additional vocals)
Stephen Singleton & David Levin (producers)

Check their page on myspace!!!

"broaden up your northern accent - you worked in a mill, baby!"
mischief is their occupation
malice their habit
murder their sport

21 SONGS FOR 21 DAYS - An Odd Compilation or Cry Prevention

Hi listeners.
Imagine your love has to leave you for three weeks and you need something to cool you down when you feel lonely.
But it should not make you sadder than you already are. It's supposed to guide you on a mind trip to your loved one and do the same to her or him.
Look at the moon at the same time as your love does!
Lay down on your bed, put on your headphones and listen to this:
