The Yamuna (/jəmʊnaː/; Sanskrit and Hindi: यमुना), sometimes called Jamuna (Hindi: जमुना; /d͡ʒəmʊna:/) is the longest and the second largest tributary river of the Ganges (Ganga) in northern India. Originating from the Yamunotri Glacier at a height of 6,387 metres on the south western slopes of Banderpooch peaks in the uppermost region of the Lower Himalayas in Uttarakhand, it travels a total length of 1,376 kilometers (855 mi) and has a drainage system of 366,223 square kilometres (141,399 sq mi), 40.2% of the entire Ganges Basin, before merging with the Ganges at Triveni Sangam, Allahabad, the site for the Kumbha Mela every twelve years. It is the longest river in India which does not directly flow to the sea.
It crosses several states, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, passing by Uttarakhand and later Delhi, and meets its tributaries on the way, including Tons, its largest tributary in Uttarakhand, Chambal, its longest tributary which has its own large basin, followed by Sindh, the Betwa, and Ken. Most importantly it creates the highly fertile alluvial, Yamuna-Ganges Doab region between itself and the Ganges in the Indo-Gangetic plain. Nearly 57 million people depend on the Yamuna waters. With an annual flow of about 10,000 cubic billion metres (cbm) and usage of 4,400 cbm (of which irrigation constitutes 96 per cent), the river accounts for more than 70 per cent of Delhi’s water supplies. Just like the Ganges, the Yamuna too is highly venerated in Hinduism and worshipped as goddess Yamuna, throughout its course. In Hindu mythology, she is the daughter of Sun God, Surya, and sister of Yama, the God of Death, hence also known as Yami and according to popular legends, bathing in its sacred waters frees one from the torments of death.
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as stream, creek, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Many names for small rivers are specific to geographic location; examples are "run" in some parts of the United States, "burn" in Scotland and northeast England, and "beck" in northern England. Sometimes a river is defined as being larger than a creek, but not always: the language is vague.
Rivers are part of the hydrological cycle. Water generally collects in a river from precipitation through a drainage basin from surface runoff and other sources such as groundwater recharge, springs, and the release of stored water in natural ice and snowpacks (e.g. from glaciers). Potamology is the scientific study of rivers while limnology is the study of inland waters in general.
Little Krishna is a 3D computer-animated series which is a co-creation between BIG Animation and India Heritage Foundation (promoted by Akshaya Patra Foundation). The series started showing on Indian television on Nickelodeon from 11 May 2009.
It depicts the childhood pastimes of Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who appeared in the village of Vrindavana. The stories of the animated series revolve around Little Krishna, the land of Vrindavan and the life of villagers there. There are currently 13, 23-minute episodes in the series. Using the traditional tales of Krishna's childhood adventures as a foundation, the tonality of the stories is both light-hearted and, at times, serious.
Little Krishna is a lovable and mischievous character who enjoys helping his friends and villagers. Based on the chronicles of Srimad Bhagavatam and the writings of the Six Goswamis of Vrindavana, the series is an outcome of seven years of research by the devotees of ISKCON Bangalore with two and half years of production work by BIG Animation. Scripted by Emmy Award winner Jeffrey Scott and researched by Chanchalapati Dasa, Chamari Devi Dasi and Bhaktilata Devi Dasi, the series was based on the teachings of HDG A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
Mystery meat navigation (also known as MMN) is a disparaging term coined in 1998 by Vincent Flanders, author and designer of the website Web Pages That Suck, to describe a web page where the destination of the link is not visible until the user points their cursor at it. Such interfaces lack a user-centered design, emphasizing aesthetic appearance, white space, and the concealment of relevant information over basic practicality and functionality.
The epithet "mystery meat" refers to the meat products often served in American public school cafeterias whose forms have been so thoroughly reprocessed that their exact types can no longer be identified by their appearances: like them, the methods of MMN are clear to the producer but baffling to the consumer.
Flanders originally and temporarily described the phenomenon as Saturnic navigation in reference to the Saturn Corporation, whose company website epitomized this phenomenon. Flanders writes, "The typical form of MMN is represented by menus composed of unrevealing icons that are replaced with explicative text only when the mouse cursor hovers over them".

The 6 minute documentary describes how a sacred river suddenly "disappears", and gets "replaced" by an open flow of sewage killing all living organisms in it and making millions of people sick. Despite the shocking reality, however, the blessings of the "stolen" river Goddess can already be felt by the massive cooperation of people of diverse backgrounds -- Hindus, Muslims, rich and poor, farmers and environmentalists, old and young, Indians and of foreign origin, who, putting aside all their differences and (often prejudices) towards each other, are coming to the rescue... At least 22 people drowned in Yamuna river as their boat capsized while reaching Haryana from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday morning. The death toll is expected to rise. At least 50 people were on the boat when it overturned. Around 10 people swam to safety while about 31 passengers are missing. District administration and villagers carried out rescue operations. The boat had a capacity for only 35 passengers, said district magistrate Bhawani Singh. “The boat was ferrying passengers more than its capacity. Most of the passengers of the ill-fated boat were women. As soon as the boat reached mid-stream it capsized,” the district magistrate said. ADG of Meerut zone Prashant Kumar said that 11 of the injured were under treatment in different hospitals. He said that a magisterial enq...
Parts of the Yamuna are now described as a 'dead river' meaning the pollution level is so bad that there is not enough oxygen in it for fish or other marine life to survive. Yamuna is one of the most polluted rivers in the world, especially around New Delhi, the capital of India, which dumps about 58% of its waste into the river. New Delhi generates 1,900 million litre per day (MLD) of sewage. Though numerous attempts have been made to process it, the efforts have proven to be futile. Although the government of India has spent nearly $500 million to clean up the river, the Yamuna continues to be polluted with garbage while most sewage treatment facilities are underfunded or malfunctioning. In addition, the water in this river remains stagnant for almost nine months in a year, aggravating ...

yamuna river ( nadi ) aari in mathura l black river in india l indian traveler History The name Yamuna seems to be derived from the Sanskrit word "yama", meaning 'twin', and it may have been applied to the river because it runs parallel to the Ganges. The Yamuna is mentioned at many places in the Rig Veda, which was composed during the Vedic period between ca. 1700–1100 BC, and also in the later Atharvaveda, and the Brahmanas including Aitareya Brahmana and Shatapatha Brahmana.[11] In Rig Veda, the story of the Yamuna describes her "excessive love" for her twin, Yama, who in turn asks her to find a suitable match for herself, which she does in Krishna[citation needed]. It is also said that lord shiva was the main reason for the colour of the Yamuna river. After the death of Sati Devi, lor...

The 165-km Yamuna expressway that connects Noida and Agra is being thrown open to the public. The expressway reduces the distance between the two places by at least 2 hours. The toll for the expressway is around 346 rupees for a passenger car. UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav inaugurated the expressway via video conference from Lucknow. The project has witnessed many delays since it was conceived during the Mayawati regime in 2001. Put on hold between 2003 and 2007, it was revived in 2007 and renamed Yamuna Expressway. Frequent delays have been caused by farmer agitations over price of notified land in 334 villages where the expressway now stands. For more log on to http://www.newsx.com

He adds that the amount of resources that are required in order to clean up the sewage generated by the population of Delhi is so much and that it cannot be afforded by the municipalities. "It is believed that such a severe pollution in the Yamuna was also caused by Kaliya Nag which was then defeated by Lord Krishna. We are the present day Kaliya Nag", he says.
