Melbourne expect Angus Brayshaw to be available to play next weekend despite the midfielder suffering his third concussion in 12 months.

Brayshaw left the field early on Saturday night following a head knock while playing for the Demons' VFL affiliate Casey against North Ballarat at Casey Fields.

The midfielder was sidelined for more than a month last season after a pair of concussions in the space of a few weeks.

However despite his history, Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said Brayshaw was unlikely to be facing another extended stint out of the game.

"Angus received a minor concussion following a late hit during the game last night," Mahoney said on Sunday.

"He reported signs of improvement this morning. We will monitor him through the week but expect him to be available this week."

Taken at pick three in the 2014 draft, Brayshaw had a strong first season in the AFL, finishing fifth in the Rising Star award. However a knee injury during last year's pre-season followed by the head concerns hindered his 2016 campaign, with the on-baller limited to just 10 senior matches last year.

He began this season in Melbourne's team but was dropped after an underwhelming performance in the round two win over Carlton.

Losing grand finalists last year, Casey notched their second win of the year in beating the Roosters by 46 points. Tom Bugg responded well to his demotion to the VFL with 35 disposals and five goals. Casey play away to Geelong next Saturday.

Melbourne face Richmond on Monday night at the MCG, with Simon Goodwin's side looking to snap a two-game losing streak. Bugg is one of four players dropped for the clash with the Tigers as the Dees responded to their upset loss at the hands of Fremantle last weekend.
