Salisbury (various pronunciations, but locally /ˈsɔːzbri/, SAWZ-bree) is a cathedral city in Wiltshire, England, and the only city within the county. It is the third-largest settlement in the county, after Swindon and Chippenham, with a population of 41,682.
The city is located in the southeast of Wiltshire, near the edge of Salisbury Plain. Its cathedral was formerly located to the north at Old Sarum; following its relocation, a settlement grew up around it, drawing residents from Old Sarum and Wilton. The new town received its city charter in 1227 under the name New Sarum, which continued to be its official name until 2009, when the Salisbury City Council was established. It sits at the confluence of five rivers: the Nadder, Ebble, Wylye, and Bourne are tributary to the Hampshire Avon, which flows to the south coast and into the sea at Christchurch in Dorset. Salisbury railway station serves the city and is a regional interchange, marking the crossing point between the West of England Main Line and the Wessex Main Line.
Coordinates: 51°04′41″N 1°51′22″W / 51.07808°N 1.85600°W / 51.07808; -1.85600 Wilton House is an English country house situated at Wilton near Salisbury in Wiltshire. It has been the country seat of the Earls of Pembroke for over 400 years.
The first recorded building on the site of Wilton House was a priory founded by King Egbert circa 871. Later, this priory, due to the munificence of King Alfred, was granted lands and manors until it became wealthy and powerful. However, by the time Wilton Abbey was dissolved during the Dissolution of the Monasteries by King Henry VIII, its prosperity was already on the wane – following the seizure of the abbey, King Henry presented it and the estates to William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke (in the 1551 creation) c. 1544.
William Herbert, the scion of a distinguished family in the Welsh marches, was a favourite of the king. Following a recommendation to King Henry by King Francis I of France, whom Herbert had served as a soldier of fortune, Herbert was granted arms after only two years. In 1538, Herbert married Anne Parr, daughter of Sir Thomas Parr of Kendal and sister of the future queen consort Catherine Parr (1543–1547) and Sir William Parr, 1st Baron Parr of Kendal (later Marquess of Northampton).

The goals from Pompey's 3-0 friendly win over Salisbury at Raymond McEnhill Stadium. Milan Lalkovic put the Blues ahead in the second half, as he slotted home past Whites' keeper Charlie Searle on 54 minutes. And Tom Davies doubled the visitors' advantage in the 63rd minute, as he headed home Carl Baker's in-swinging corner. Ben Close added gloss to the victory on 75 minutes, as he collected a loose ball on the edge of the box and lashed it into the net via the underside of the crossbar. Speechless: Nature without music or narration. Episode 02 - Salisbury Plain, South Georgia www.RichardSidey.com/speechless-web-series www.facebook.com/richardsideyphoto Speechless Concept: I want to share some of these phenomenal remote spots that I'm incredibly lucky to visit on my expeditions and make them feel as real as possible to portray the experience. So I've decided that maybe the best way to do this is strip down the video, with raw footage only; No music, no David Attenborough, no fancy editing and no touching up. As it was on the day. And maybe, with no one telling you what to think and no music to stir the emotions, maybe it will be quite refreshing, and a lot more real? Stay tuned for the feature documentary: Speechless : The Polar Realm http://www.richardsidey.com/spee...

2nd Year of Supercars at Wilton House. Wasn't really sure what to expect, but as it was just round the corner from me thought we would pop along. Almost wasn't going to take the camera as it was raining when we set off. Bit of an overload of supercars! Pretty much every prestige marque you could imagine was represented. This is just a selection of a few of the cars there. I took over an hour of footage, but cut it down here to 2 mins. Recorded November 1, 2012 Salisbury Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in Salisbury, England, and is considered one of the leading examples of Early English architecture. The main body was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258. The cathedral has the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom (404 feet). The cathedral also has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral close in Britain. The cathedral contains the world's oldest working clock and has the best surviving of the four original copies of the Magna Carta. Although commonly known as Salisbury Cathedral, the official name is the Cathedral of Saint Mary. The video begins with some commentary by our guide on the road as we approach the cathedral. To skip the commentary advance the video to 3:16. From: http://timvp.com

Here's a travel blog in the UK Places series, using my new kit - which makes all the difference to the quality and stability. This episode I am in Salisbury, Wiltshire. The story of Salisbury began 2,500 years ago when an iron age fort was built on Salisbury Hill about 2 miles north of the modern town center. In the 6th century AD the Saxons invaded Wiltshire. In 552 Saxons and Celts fought a battle at Salisbury Hill. The Celts were defeated and fled westwards. The fort probably lay abandoned for centuries. However by the early 11th century a settlement had grown up on the site of the old fort. In 1003 the Vikings raided Wilton some of the survivors may have fled to the safety of Salisbury Hill and founded a new settlement. The new town had a mint and a market. About 1069 William the C...

This is a film we made for the amazing Intrepid Travel. http://intrepidtravel.com/ Our Cuba trip was beyond wonderful! We hope this film gives you a glimpse into the fun! We had never done a tour before of any kind and to be honest I was worried it would be annoying to be on a plan with someone else leading things. ;) However it was the most relaxing way to travel!!... We just rolled up and things were sorted for us! Local knowledge and tips on money and what and where to buy were wonderful!! We did things we probably wouldn't have without the guide and I loved being stretched and trying new things... It was super interesting to hear history of different places and about building and plants and people... it just made the trip super well rounded and I loved my kids hearing all the storie...
Somewhere in your eye, that very special glow.
Something drawing me, to where, I do not know.
I never really thought that I would lose myself.
But now I'm going faster than anybody else.
You move without a sound, touch me with your hand
just like the rain that fondles every grain of sand.
This thing we're gonna do, it's just for you and me.
I'm gonna make it good, good as it can be.
Your kiss is sweeter now, your breath is getting warm.
We must take our time and last it through till dawn.
I wonder will it be? Oh, I expect it to.
There have been other girls, but no one else like you.
I feel a power here I've never felt before.
And I begin to see what drives us to want more.
Oh god of all my dreams, please tell me if I'm wrong.
Because I think you have been in love.
As time past, and all too fast, I just knew it couldn't last.
And I guess that the end was near at hand.
Oh we tried our love inside, it just crumbled up and died.
What went wrong I will never, never understand.
You tell me why.
Alone again - how could you leave me.
Alone again - I don't want to be.
Alone again - yeah!
There's a line, in a rhyme, I was going to send to you.
It says: All that is to be will surely be.
So, though you had to go 'cause you needed someone new,
is there still a chance that you'll come back to me?
I want you back you see.
Alone again - how could you leave me.
Alone again - I don't want to be.
Alone again - yeah!
Somewhere in your eye, that very special glow.
Something drawing me, to where, I do not know.
I never really thought that I would lose myself.
But now I'm going faster than anybody else.
You move without a sound and touch me with your hand
just like the rays that fondle every grain of sand.
